Come on, folks! This type of vile, vitriolic, hate-filled, misogynistic speech needs to stop! For Ed Schultz to call Laura Ingraham a name like that is totally uncalled for. It's unprofessional, juvenile and down-right uncivil:

Msnbc suspends Schultz over Ingraham remark
One week unpaid leave after radio remarks about conservative talk show host

    May 25, 2011
NEW YORK — Left-leaning Ed Schultz has been suspended from msnbc cable television for referring to radio talk show host Laura Ingraham as a "right-wing slut" and "talk slut" on his syndicated radio show Tuesday.

In a statement released Wednesday, the cable channel said: "Msnbc management met with Ed Schultz this afternoon and accepted his offer to take one week of unpaid leave for the remarks he made yesterday on his radio program. Ed will address these remarks on his show tonight, and immediately following begin his leave. Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

The remark came as Schultz was taking aim at Ingraham over her criticism of President Obama's trip to Ireland — where he apparently enjoyed a beer — while the Midwest was experiencing severe weather, including devastating tornadoes.

"And what are the Republicans thinking about?" Schultz said. "They're not thinking about their next-door neighbor. They're just thinking about how much this is going to cost. President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Mo., on Sunday, but you know what they're talking about, like this right-wing slut, what's her name? Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she's a talk slut. You see, she was, back in the day, praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama's doing it, they're working him over."

Ingraham has slammed Schultz for the remarks. In a posting on her Facebook wall, she wrote: "The crude comments made about me by Ed Schultz on his radio program: First, I was surprised to learn that Ed Schultz actually hosted a radio show. Is it only available online? Second, I have to get back to recording the audio edition of my new book 'Of Thee I Zing.' Now I'm tempted to insert one additional zing — about men who preach civility but practice misogyny."

    Ed Schultz's apology:
Closed captioning of: Schultz apologizes for Ingraham remarks
good evening, americans. and welcome to "the ed show" from new york tonight. thomas roberts will be here tonight anchoring the program, but first iment want to take some time to offer an apology. on my radio show yesterday i used vile and inappropriate language when talking about talk show host laura ingraham . i am deeply sorry, and i apologize. it was wrong, uncalled for and i recognize the severity of what i said. i apologized to you, laura and ask for your forgiveness. it doesn't matter what the circumstances were. it doesn't matter that it was on radio and i was ad libbing . none of that matters. none of that matters. what matters is what i said was terribly vile and not of the standards that i or any other person should adhere to. i want all of you to know tonight that i did call laura ingraham today and did not make contact with her and i will apologize to her as i did in the message that i left her today. i also met with management here at msnbc, and understanding the severity of the situation and what i said on the radio and how it reflected terribly on this company, i have offered to take myself off the air for an indefinite period of time with no pay. i want to apologize to laura ingraham . i want to apologize to my family, my wife. i have embarrassed my family. i have embarrassed this company. and i have been in this business since 1978 , and i have made a lot of mistakes. this is the lowest of low for me. i stand before you tonight in front of this camera in this studio in an environment that i absolutely love. i love working here. i love communicating with all of you on the radio and the communication that i have with you when i go out and do town hall meetings and meet the people that actually watch. i stand before you tonight to take full responsibility for what i said and how i said it, and i am deeply sorry. my wife is a wonderful woman. we have a wonderful family. and with six kids and eight grandkids, i try to set an example. in this moment, i have failed. and i want you to know that i talked to my sons especially about character and about dignity and about the truth. and i tell you the truth tonight that i am deeply sorry and i tell them every day that they have to live up to standards if they want to be a successful human being in life. and i have let them down. i have never been this position before to the point where it has affected so many people. and i know that i have let a lot of people down. to the staff here at msnbc, i apologize for embarrassing the company and the only way that i can really make restitution for you is to give you a guarantee, and the only way i can prove my sincerity in all of this is if i never use those words again. tonight, you have my word that i won't. laura ingraham , i am sorry. very sorry. i'll be back with you in the coming days.

I'm certainly an advocate of free speech, but such hurtful, hateful speech doesn't promote his cause. I'm not surprised that this joke of a talk show host said something like this based on his prior hate-filled rants. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Let's only hope that he eventually joins the ranks of Keith Olber-what's-his-name....

Sounds like he made a vulgar remark, apologized for it, and is accepting the punishment for it. Has he done this often, or was this a one-time slip-up? If it happens often, he should be banned. If it's a one-time slip-up, and he's apologized, and he's accepted punishment for it... then I'd say move on lol:rolleyes:

Personally, I don't listen to radio-politics... it's always bs as far as I'm concerned ...a platform to rile up the base's ignorants/extremists, nothing more.:p

The "reigning in" of misbehaving, non script followers, continues as the GE thugs flex their muscle. Obermann and Shultz should join forces and P*** all over MSNBC.
Anyway...when will they reign in the those Fox blowhards and that fathead Limpbaugh?

No...he meant extreme hate networks like Fox, extreme blowhards like Sean and Limpy.

    Two things,

First, he doesn't sound at all sorry for calling her a slut. Second, if he called her a clown, he would be fine. I think people should be able to call other people anything they want. I find it ironic that the same network that finds this type of name calling unacceptable also gives the world the Jerry Springer Show.

Insults rule and CoinOKC, you are a pathetic, good for nothing clown with no brains or balls. If you have time, I would like to know how "vile, vitriolic, hate-filled, misogynistic" my name calling towards you was.

First of all, I was listening when he made the remark. I found it out of character for him but didn't really give it a second thought at the time because he and the other guy were just laughing and throwing stuff out there apparently uncensored. Second, he wasn't suspended by the network, he suspended himself voluntarily. Whether that was at the behest of the network, we'll probably never know. Additionally, the comment was over the top and it was wrong and Ed should never have said it. I know Ed has apologized to Laura Ingraham, her family and every possible person that may have been offended. This was a one-off incident uncharacteristic of Schultz and if you have ever spent any time listening to Schultz you'd know that. This is not something he does on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, what this does is gives those people that regularly throw out misogynist, racist, and sexist epitaphs the chance to point the finger in the other direction for 10 minutes and then go right back into the same use of unacceptable language they are temporarily getting the chance to condemn. That is the real tragedy here not that someone as vile and hate-filled as Laura Ingraham was called a bad word. This is the same woman that was calling Obama a terrorist. I can have little sympathy for Ingraham if Schultz let it slip how he really feels about her even as he regrets his own actions.

Well, naturally. The remark was cloaked in a veil of levity and you fed into the propaganda.

    Sure we will:

From msnbc.com - Breaking news, science and tech news, world news, US news, local news- msnbc.com In a statement released Wednesday, the cable channel said: "Msnbc management met with Ed Schultz this afternoon and accepted his offer to take one week of unpaid leave for the remarks he made yesterday on his radio program.

Schultz knew he had screwed up, offered what seemed to him to be a reasonable punishment, the network agreed and subsequently suspended him.

That's really not the best defense for this man that you could offer. After all, Glenn Beck apologized for calling Obama a racist, but the left still beats him up for it. I think Schultz did the right thing by offering an apology and I say let bygones be bygones.

That's true only in the sense that he's never called someone a slut before (at least that we know of). Unfortunately, I watch him occasionally and find him to be rude, insulting and vile. So was this remark uncharacteristic? Not in the least.

I think you're failing to grasp the hypocrisy of Schultz's remark. He IS the vile individual that he claims to despise.

Schultz was the same guy who exclaimed that the tragedy in Arizona was caused by the vitriolic speech he, himself, is guilty of! I don't mind listening to the guy and hearing his point of view. But, when he says things like this, well, the hypocrisy of it all sickens me.

    Moen1305 Not Republican!

If I had fed into the propaganda as you say, would I have said that it was uncharacteristic of him to make a comment like that. Of course not!

Just as I said, he suspended himself.

Saying the remark was wrong and he shouldn't have made it is hardly a defense of him. Glenn Beck apologized kind of a full year later, never suspended himself nor did the Fox suspend him. If you want any kind of defense it would have I would have to fault live radio. Letting bad things slip occasionally is just part of the genre. It happens. The real issue is what do you then do to make amends. I think Schultz did the right thing. (In reality, I think he just wanted a week off to do some walleye fishing in the North woods.)

I don't watch his TV show very often. He is loud and passionate about defending the workers of this country. You might find him insulting but only because he insults your beliefs. But that is his job. If you find him insulting, he must be good at what he is doing.

The hypocrisy label resides with those on the Right that make remarks like this one on a daily basis unchecked who are now pointing at Schultz. Unless you don't understand the use of the word hypocrisy or something.

Again, it is language that goes on day in and day out on Right wing stations in a continuous drum beat. Schultz says something directed at a single person once that he shouldn't have and suddenly it is comparable to what the Right wing does every day. That defines the Right wing's problem with false equivalencies. Nobody suspends themselves on the Right.

Everything I have ever seen or heard from this guy is limited to what has been posted in this thread but it's enough to know the guy is a bitter, petty little man. His attack on Ingraham indicates he's a hate-filled sexist bully and anyone who would waste their time with his drivel probaly isn't too dissimilar. He's actually someone who deserves our pity rather than our distain.
Now that I am aware of his show I would actually like to watch the train wreck but I imagine by the time his suspension is over he will already have faded back into anonymity.

Please learn how to spell "retarded" if you're going to use the word in a sentence. Earlier, when referring to me, you spelled "brilliant guy" as c-l-o-w-n. You need to take a remedial spelling course.

    It worked.
He is on every news page on the net and on every talk show on the radio and every cable news channel on the television. What a ratings grab. The man has been heard and seen more this week than his entire career combined.
