This Has To Be the Classiest Thing I've Ever Heard a President Do

Have you ever heard the saying "Give the man a fish & he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish & he eats for a lifetime"?
Many believe that aiding one to become self-sufficient actually shows much more compassion in the long run.

 

That is fine and dandy, but the fact do not back it. When they polled their donations, the conservatives gave considerably more than the liberals - and the poll was conducted by the liberals.

I also whole heartedly agree with David and his fish. Even more, working to feed yourself makes you more better, more capable person in other respects.

 

I agree with the Teach To Fish idea too. It's a good one in theory. Unfortunately, in practice, it seems that the teaching idea often tends to be to take a man with no pole or net, point him toward a puddle and say 'Good Luck!"

 

Hopefully, once the guy is taught to fish, he will be able to make his own pole & find his own fishing hole, right?

 

Well, let me in on some of these teaching ideas that the Republicans have been proposing in legislation. There are a few candidates for 2012 President already. Link me to their ideas on this fishing teaching they want to do. Republicans have controlled the House for a little while. Link me to some bills they put forth. Because honestly, I never hear about these teach to fish initiatives. I hear about stopping the fish giveaways all the time but not much about concrete programs to teach people any of these necessary skills of making poles and finding fishing holes.

And I am being serious. I would love to see some links to read about this kind of legislation that the Republicans are trying to pass.

That saying certainly applies in a lot of cases, but there are also a lot of cases where "the man" is unable to fish. The handicapped, infirm, and elderly can't be expected to work like a 20 year old can. The poor generally are treated as scum, and working conditions become harder on them and opportunities become more and more limited as they age.

BTW How exactly do we put degrees against each other? And how'd that metallurgy degree from one of the best engineering schools in the country work out in the casino? Is there a lot of call for metallurgy these says on the casino floor? I guess that explains the bad drinking habit. Why not take Jack's lead and check yourself into a good detox center. He was man enough to admit he had a drinking problem. All you do is come and whine at us after a hard day of metallurgy on the casino floor.

Most people grow out of this kind of behavior by the time they reach adulthood. Some never will, but it's a childish mentality. Leave that behind already, you're making yourself look like a fool.

But, I do understand why you dodge...it is obvious that your party of choice does not advocate that teach to fish philosophy regardless of the lip service that its members pay to it. And that explains why I haven't seen any of this kind of major legislation and initiatives - and why you can't provide links to major legislation promoting it from your party. Because it doesn't exist. Thanks for the confirmation. I will let this thread get back to its regularly scheduled name calling.
