LOL! Are we still stuck on this? Will you be getting a Christmas ornament for the tree this year over it? It's good to see this "latching onto whatever scrap of good news can be found and not letting go" kind of desperation though. Be sure to remind us next week too. While you're at it, could you lay out Obama's strategy for taking down the rich and the progress that has been made?

As for Newt... he's got my vote. Not near enough baggage to worry over more than another 4 years of Obama. He's 1000x better than McCain. Newt's a politician but I can't remember him saying anything that I've ever disagreed with. Hope he runs.

Well then you are a LIAR. I never said what you claimed and you're a fussy for not addressing it. Thump.

Yeah, stuck on this a whole week later. I have no doubt the Right wing will do everything it can to put this ugly incident behind us. It only took over 15 years, we should try and forget this accomplishment the next week. Certainly, this merits the tag "scrap of good news" in order to down play the significance of this event so the Right wing doesn't have to suffer the embarassment of the Left's triumph.

Ah Gingrich, So you agree that the reason he left his cancer ridden wife for his secretary was because he had a boner for America? I can see why you admire him. None of that feeling sorry for people with cancer even if you happen to be married to them. Well, not if your secretary is available right? Oh then there was that little ethical thing back in the House. Then there was that impeaching Clinton for having an affair while having an affair. You are right, he is 1000x better than McCain but no where near good enough to even lick the president's boots.

lol Thanks for that! I did laugh out loud.

Suddenly personal lives are the new barometer for political worthiness? I'd give him a chance for four years. Only he'd have to earn a second term vote. You were licking Obamas boot the day he got elected and couldn't wait to vote for him again in 4 years. That's the difference.

Yeah, I am over OBL. I don't care if he was the most wanted man in the world. Somebody has already taken his place. He was a mortal man. He was spun up to be made larger than life, but it was just another man. It was an emotional victory that has now waned for the average person, who's not intent on putting Obama on a pedestal.

If you disregard the hypercritical Right wing, and I do, and objectively look at the last two years our presdent is doing better than we have a right to expect considering what he was handed on January 20th 2009, considering the brickwall the Republicans have erected, and considering the sheer number of lies the Right wing levels against his administration on a daily basis. Imagine if he had a opposition party to work with that was actually interested in doing something for the lower 98% of the people of this country. WOW! The mind reels. I think he'll go down in history along side that great Republican president that also had a tough row to hoe. Abe Lincoln and Barack Obama will be two of the greatest presidents this country ever produced when all is said and done. They are/were both greater that the people they guided.

Let me get this straight. "If you disregard the hypercritical Right wing, and I do [i.e disregard half the American population] and objectively look at the last two years our presdent is doing better than we have a right to expect considering..............." How can you "objectively" look at anything when you disregard everyone who disagrees with your opinion?

He has about as much chance as Palin does. Both are equally offensive though.

What I find difficult to believe is that you're making this a partisan issue. The hunt for bin Laden was an American concern, not democrat - not republican. His death was a victory for Americans, not any particular party. If there is any justice for his victims, it's that the man has met his end. I don't think it would matter to them who was seated in the Oval Office at the time of bin Laden's demise.

When I read these words, the only thing that came to mind was "vomit". Yes, "vomit".

Presidents lead! The Right wing trotting out old Bush Administration ideologues to again advocate for torture IS partisan. Torture is now part of the Republican platform and you should be so proud of your political party. Every professional interrogator has said exactly the same thing...torture doesn't work and in many cases slows down the information gathering process but the GOP is still pushing for it. That is your party at work because America should stand for human rights abuses. Thank God we now have an adult in office.

Oh, puh-leeeze. Don't be so naive. Obama is still not only condoning rendition, but advocating it. So, get off your high horse.

And torture? You kind of veered off course here. I don't know what his policy on rendition is to be honest or even how rendition differs from extraordinary rendition but I do know we were talking about torture, you know, Lon Cheney's favorite activity. Way to ignore directly talking about your party's love of torture. Did I say torture enough times? Torture Torture Torture.

    IQless1 trump supporters are scum

Americans used to think of torture as what inhumane countries did against our troops (as Prisoners of War). When did we decide we wanted to be like them? When inhumane people in our own country came to power. Now a large part of the country thinks torture is ok, as long as Americans are doing the torturing (in order to extract information). I doubt our soldiers who died while being tortured would believe America could have ever condoned torture, but they would have been wrong.

There have always been people in this country willing to do things like torture and worse as a means to an end. That has never changed. The difference between then and now is that calmer voices used to prevail. Now? Not so much. It's not unlike the Romans falling head-long into blood sport as the empire declined. I think that we could pull back and once again become the shining light on the hill we once were but there are still many voices crying for blood that must be....and I'm searching for the right word here...shamed, shamed into seeing the kind of world they are advocating for and the kind of country they want us to be. Shaming them is a tall order since they are already willing to torture people and can probably dismiss shame in a New York minute.

Torture is what the VC did to our soldiers in Vietnam...torture is what the Japanese did to our soldiers in WW2. Causing temporary discomfort to terrorists in order to save innocent lives is hardly the same thing, wouldn't you agree?
