I'm not too into watching sports, but I still enjoy football (go Packers!). I know it's a bit early for talk of football though, so instead I thought I'd start this thread about sports in general. Chatter is a good place for this, people can come in here and relax a bit from all the arguing in the Political room! (laughs) Seriously, everyone seems to know everyone's opinions in there anyway and it might be interesting to relax a bit and tell us what you like about sports, favorite teams, favorite games, etc. Have fun for a minute or two and tell us something we don't know about you.
Obviously, I'm still gloating about the Green Bay's Super Bowl victory, but to be honest I thought the Steelers were gonna crush 'em. Shows what I know! (laughs) I grew up as a Packer fan though, and went through over 25 years of disappointment before the 90s teams continued the dynasty's winning spirit.
In the 90s we got a satellite dish, with programming from the Denver area being the norm. I began to watch the Rockies play at Coor's field and quickly became a fan. They had a pretty decent line-up for a while, and the high altitude really seemed to increase their home runs! But my favorite moment was actually a commercial. It had Dante Bichette and Larry Walker sitting in chairs (with a small end table between them) answering questions about the Rockies apparent good fortune of location regarding all the home runs they (and the team in general) were hitting. Dante gets infuriated and slams a baseball he was holding into the table, and starts yelling at the interviewer. The scene cuts to a close-up of him as the ball slowly rises, floating in the "light" air! (laughs)
Well I think that most folks here know I am a Hawks fan, I love rugby, detest soccer like baseball and cricket
I live for hockey but many here know that. FINALLY got to see my Hawks win the Cup last year. The last time they won it was a year before I was born. He DeOrc did I ever mention that somewhere I have Bobby Hull, Dennis Hull, Stan Makita and Tony Esposito's autographs? Do you still hate me for it? I also watch the Bears in football, the White Sox in baseball and the Bulls (not as much in basketball). Still kind of tough for me to watch basketball though. When you got to see Jordan all those years you really got spoiled.
I smell a fight... (laughs) ...I thought I'd respond too though, since I collected autographs on trading cards for a time. Hockey-wise I have a lot, but no big names. Basketball I have a Michael Jordan... no, the OTHER Michael Jordan ...(laughs) ...some baseball, but mostly football. And I'd say the most valuable cards (cash-value-wise) would be a Shaquille O'neil and ...(prepares to run)... a Jeff Gordon ...(runs like his life depended on it)
As a fellow Hawks fan I would have to say no I dont hate you but I might kill you for them (but it would be with love in my heart LOL)
Not trying to pick on you, but when the best player in the history of the franchise is a Left Tackle, nuff said.
I take no offence. Been hearing it for along time now. But I think Ken Anderson was a great QB and Their best player by far. XVI was the best Super Bowl game I ever watched.
Ken Anderson was good, but Anthony Munoz was the franchise's best player. He was ranked as the 12th best player of all time and the highest ranked lineman of all time by the recent NFL Top 100 Players List. Ken Anderson wouldn't crack the top 25 for QB's much less the top 100 of all time. That was a great Superbowl.
Bears, Bears, and Bears. Don't put myself through the torture of the Cubs much any more and haven't followed the Bulls much since Jordan quit the second time.
I hear ya man. For me it is Bears, Bulls, Cardinals (STL). Derrick Rose has me excited about the Bulls, but when they run into a real team (Miami), I think they are going to be in trouble.
The Heat have kind of taken some of my interest out of the Bulls even though Rose and the team in general have been worth watching. The game has changed a lot too, though. And, it's funny, I have lived closer to the Cardinals than the Cubs for most of my life but they are still the enemy. lol My wife is a fan, though.
