Michigan's House of Representatives recently proposed eliminating the state's Senior Volunteer Programs (SVP), after Governor Rick Snyder proposed $2.2 million in cuts to it and two other similar programs (Meals on Wheels & Senior Companion). The cost of the SVP program to Michigan was $660,000 for the fiscal year 2010. There were over 11,200 volunteers in the Retired and Senior Volunteer's Program (RSVP), which makes up the bulk of the SVP, who provided approximately 1.36 million hours of service that year. The estimated value of this is over $19 million, roughly a 28 to 1 ratio in return for Michigan. Now, the average salary for a Michigan legislator is $79,650 + $1200 for expenses. The state has 110 Representatives & 38 Senators. For the cost of roughly 7-1/2 legislators Michigan had 11,200 volunteers providing 19 million dollars worth of assistance for communities throughout the state. Now, I doubt this measure would pass (because of public outcry), but guess who controls the house and introduced this? I'll let Moen or somebody else smarter than me take it from here, I can't figure out the math! (laughs)
Ooops! Yeah RLM, sorry I missed that. He's self-proclaimed the highest educated.. blah, blah, blah...
Not just him, and not just one party. I truly believe I am "south of the middle" somewhere when it comes to pure knowledge on this site. I'm not brain-dead ...but I see more from a "general knowledge" perspective, and not "fine details" like most of you have shown.
