Well, Canadians are heading to the polls again on May 2, after a vote of non-confidence forced the minority Conservative government to call an early election. For those interested but unfamiliar with the various federal parties in Canada, the following graphic shows their alignment according to politicalcompass.org: View attachment 151 Has anybody tried the political compass quiz? It's an interesting tool to see where you stand compared to the various candidates. The website has charts for many of the recent elections in Canada, US, UK, Australia, NZ, etc.
I like the reason they tossed out the conseratives in Canada. They were not honest with the actual costs of tax cuts for corporations. If only this country had such a standard.
I hear you... but I wouldn't regard Canadian politics too highly either. The liberals also have a history of scandal. It's a matter of trying to choose the lesser of 5 evils.
Here's my political compass. I'm not sure why I am such an outlier... I guess if I were to run for office I would probably lean more up and right to win votes. I think when you answer quizzes like this you give your best-case scenario, but it isn't always realistic. My idealism comes through in this result. View attachment 152
Just done mine and I play the same field as you LOL as well as Ghandi, Mandella and the Dali Lama not quite sure how they come to this conclussion but can live with it
Indeed. We're used to voter fraud here in the U.S. also. For instance, a Minnesota senator, Al Franken (a former comedian and, by many accounts, still a comedian) received votes from deceased people. MINNESOTA VOTE FRAUD: 2,812 Dead Voters | RedState View attachment 172 US Senator Al Franken
He probably did get votes from dead people, but I'm sure his opponent did too. We don't know. And America has a history of electing interesting people... actors, singers, wrestlers... comedian isn't too out of the ordinary with that history.
Very true. I was merely pointing out that most entertainers transform into their new profession when they become politicians. In Franken's case, he's still a comedian: This Isn't SNL | Al Franken | Mitch McConnell | Mediaite
You don't have to be a comedian to be disrespectful during a counterpart's speech: At least Franken kept his objections to himself instead of shouting out. And he did apologize for his behaviour.
Anyway, to get back to the original topic - the Canadian election isn't a case of voter fraud - simply the result of a flawed government system. A system where the governing party can win a majority of representatives with less than 40% of the popular vote. This is especially disconcerting with this election, because a large portion of the voters who voted for other parties are vehemently opposed to the Harper government. However, the existence of multiple opposing parties split the vote so that the lone right wing party can "steal" the majority of seats. Very disappointing.
It's a joke. I love Canadians. How could anyone not love them. They are so cute and cuddly. They are like our little northern panda bears.
