Do you think that the state should have free preschool for 4 and 5 year olds? I am from Iowa and right now we have a grant that allows this for them. But our new governor does not like it and is against it. What do you think?
I think the first thing Republicans do once they get into office is cut as much out of education as they can get away with. Now of course this isn't true. The first thing they usually do is undercut the tax base by giving it away to wealthy businesses. Of course that isn't true either. The very first thing they do is disparage teachers and public education in general. Ok, Ok, that isn't true either. The first that they do before anything else once they get into office is call a meeting with their wealthy corporate donors and ask them how much money would they like to be cut out of their tax burden. No matter where you start to look at this dynamic, education, our kids, our future, is being sold out to the highest bidders and making the hardest working people in our public schools that find themselves in an already bad situation work even harder to educate our children. There should be an education tax on all businesses that supports public education and funds all aspects of educating our children and it should be mandatory. Right now, education is suffering because wealthy donors can bribe politicians into cutting taxes for businesses and cutting funding for an educational system that is already on life support.
You make a good point there. It just sort of stinks because right now there are many that come because it is free. Kids need it before they get to kindergarten because it teaches them social skills that are needed for life. Some people do not think that it is important but preschool sets the foundation for many years to come.
I dont know if it the foundation. Alot of people need to send their kids there because both parents work. I think social skills at that young age should come from the parents. Angie is this a federal grant? Or a state funded grant?
It is a state funded grant. It has been proven that children who have good social skills from preschool age do better in life and have less problems as they get older. Parents can not always give that. I see lots of children that come in and the parents think they are ready for kindergarten but they are not because they lack many social skills. So the parents obviously do not see that.
Werent there generations of people who are socially apt before preschool became the norm? And becareful about saying its been proven. Some in here will want you to show the facts. I take it you are a preshool teacher.
I'm curious about whether or not this is true myself, I will see if I can find any data. But I would posit that families were once much larger than they are now, so children would have had more siblings to interact with and develop their social skills that way. More and more parents today are choosing to have only one or two children, so there may be a new need for social development at an early age.
Yes I am a preschool teacher. Yes they were many that did not have preschool but I am a strong advocate for it. I believe that it really does help with good social skills.
Yes PK that is true. But many children today turn to the TV or video games and that is not ok. Before they had to be social because they may not have had many toys or didnot have the TV to entertain them. Now days it is like the TV is the babysitter.
You are unbelievable. While your overall point is correct, I find it in extremely bad taste to make a pre-school teacher advocating the benefits of preschool analogous to drug dealers advocating the sale of drugs. Was that really necessary?
Perhaps bad taste. But extrmely bad taste? Good thing I didnt go with the pedophile example. I will apologize and remove it.
And just so you know; the little quips you make about drinking or being drunk or the yearning for alcohol, is something I find inappropriate. Theres nothing funny about alcoholism. Even if it is self-deprecating.
Nah man I'm just kidding. You can say whatever ya want. Doesnt bother me. Although it should 'cause I had a friend die of alcohol poisoning when he was only 22. Man could he shotgun a can of Schaffer.
No worries, it isn't actually true. I very rarely drink other than when I eat out at restaurants or when I play poker. TomCorona created the online persona that I was an alcoholic so I have decided to embrace that in my trolling ways and use it to annoy others. Sorry about your friend!
