You only have democracy when the people have a voice. People had no voice in this fight. There was no debate, no announcement during the campaign, no compromise, and everything was done behind closed doors which is against Wisconsin law. You don't know the people of Wisconsin. I have lived in this area for the majority of my life. There won't be any crying I can assure you. There will be a lot of action though.
Maybe I don't want to know Wisconsinites if "there will be a lot of action" regarding legislation they don't like. I'm not sure what sort of "action" you're referring to, but if it's violent action that you've advocated previously, well, I'm against it. The democratic process is healthy. The people of Wisconsin elected their officials to conduct the business of the state and that's exactly what happened. Whether you agree or disagree with particular legislation is beside the point.
So what you are saying is that you'd be unwilling to fight for your democracy if you saw that you were losing it. Never mind how you see this, think about how the workers of Wisconsin see their governor’s behavior. If you're unwilling to fight for what you believe in, you shouldn't be surprised when you are losing it. I respect them for bringing the fight to those that are attacking their livelihoods, their families, their homes, their way of life. I'd fight too if I were in that situation. The fact that you wouldn't and would go quietly into the night makes you, well kind of pathetic.
You're missing the boat on this one. You claim to be a staunch advocate of democracy, but when a democratic process isn't to your liking, you want to torch the place, tar and feather the legislators or whatever other violent acts are brewing in your head. Regardless, the democratic process worked. If the people don't like the legislators, they should use legal means to oust them from office and replace them with ones they like better. I have no problem with that since it's also a democratic process. I certainly didn't like Pelosi and Obama's way of ramming healthcare down the country's throat. But, I'm not calling for violence like you are. I voted against their agenda last November and I'll do so again in 2012. Elections have consequences and I realize that. Do you? Protest as much as you want against the legislation, but don't disrespect the democratic process.
...and the 14 Dims in Wisconsin took it upon themselves to silence their constituents by acting out this outrageous spectacle. If abandoning their posts is supposed to be making a statement, they should accpt the consequences when the state's business is carried out without them. Remember, it was their decision to bail on the people they represented.
This is nothing that can't be reversed by the democratic process if the people of the state really want it reversed. Same as the healthcare law. If there is violence over it, it should be dealt with quickly and harshly by the justice system.
I never objected to the methods, you did. All I did was make an observation. Obamacare was passed and the Republicans accepted it until they were in the majority and now have the political power to do something about. You candyass democrats start crying foul before the legislation is even passed, threw a fit an left town, and then scream bloody murder and threaten violence when the political process moved on without them. Exactly how long were the Republicans supposed to wait before they took this completely legal action?
The peoples voice in Wisconsin has been heard. The elections are over and the Republicans are in the majority. There was no debate because the Democratic elected officials abandoned their jobs. There is no law that states an official must declare every one of their initiatives in their campaigns. The proceeding was not held behind closed doors, it was held in a room with members of the press in attendance. Who cares where you have lived, why you are crying, or what stupid little threats you or your little Democrat buddies make. It's over, you lose, and in a week, nobody is going to care at all about anything that happens in Wisconsin.
Not gloating at all Mr Moen, I am simply enjoying watching the left go unhinged.....when a righty does a lefty trick, the leftys go in to tantrum mode.....when the left pulls a lefty trick, the right just lines up to vote, as was desigined....It is quite apprent who endorses violence. For several months you have attempted to pin violence on the right, yet it is you who endorses it. Zero suprise there. As our resident self declared socialist, what would you do in this situation?
And keep it friendly so we can still go fishing and all that...lets not get personal, lets just trade ideas
Do you also enjoy teachers, policemen, firemen, and hourly workers paying for the shift in the tax burden so that already wealthy corporations can get away without having to pay any taxes? What several Republican governors have done is essentially taken money away from working peolpe already hit hard by the recession and almost dollar for dollar handed exactly the same amount to corporations in the state. The state budgets haven't saved a dime but merely shifted the tax burden away from corporations that were doing fine and put the burden on people living paycheck to paycheck. But this is no surprise, this is what Republicans do. They hand over our tax base to their wealthy contributors. And this makes you feel good?
Well, thankfully you were very wrong about the violence, Moen. It's a good thing that the cheesebaggers have held the violence in check. It seems they don't agree with you that violence is justified... and I applaud them for that.
They simply had more restrait than I have. I applaud them also but would have understood their anger too. This is totally a political fight and they are the victims.
