I have many favorites but my top two are KISS and Def Leppard. I have been to see both in concert and they are amazing. I love the show that KISS puts on for their fans. And Def Leppard is just classic.
I like a lot of different music. I could never pick just one. Bob Marley, Hendrix, Skynyrd, Nirvana, 3 Doors Down, Barenaked Ladies come to mind right away. But I get into most everything but hop hop and county.
I too agree that many bands are great. There are so many great bands that have good music. My list of my tops is pretty long, but KISS and Def Leppard are still my favorites.
No favorite. The New Pornographers are a long-time standby. I like Arcade Fire. DJ Krush. Manu Chau. Broken Social Scene. Early Elton John is kind of cool and I've recently discovered Van Morrison. The National. My newest Country band is The Sadies.
I'm a big music fan and listen to a wide variety of genres. If I had to pick a favorite band it would include Ozzy at vocals (older Black Sabbath, newer Ozzy) though I'd never limit myself to that. I love Chris Cornell's vocals in Audioslave, they have an amazing resonance for me. I prefer "power-chords" for rocking-out but respect a lot of lead-guitar licks, and sometimes a simple melody is all it takes to make a song worthy. The 70s (and on up) continue to impress me musicality-wise, with their awesome riffs and powerful melodies, but there are plenty of songs from the 50s and 60s I can still relate to, and still respect. Elton John (as one of a hundred examples) had some excellent moments back then. I've been happy to see rock continue to evolve, the 90s and 00s had an impressive amount of quality songs produced. Altough I prefer rock (as defined by vocals, guitars, bass, and drums) I also like an occasional country tune, a lot of the older folk-like music (CCR, Jim Croce, etc.), and original "blues" from the 20s and 30s and 40s, etc. I respect what they did back then. I'm not a fan of rap though... but can respect it when they don't use loops and other recordings to enhance their "sound". I like it a bit more when actual instruments are involved, which means "artists" like Brittany Spears and Madonna are not on my play list.
Queen. And Pink Floyd, if forced to pick another. It's been 20 years, and I remain saddened that Freddie Mercury will never perform again.
Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet! It's an awesome zydeco band. I also loved Queen when Freddie Mercury was recording with them and I loved the Beatles, too. I'm looking forward to seeing Trans-Siberian Orchestra when it comes into the area this December, but I don't know if that qualifies as a "band."
A question I could never really answer. Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Brand X, Bob Marley, Albert Collins, Little Feat, Talking Heads, Dixie Dregs, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jeff Beck and the list goes on.
I understood "It's an awesome" and "band", "Michael" too... but everything else went over my head... like when lehigh started talking about 5-star foods and wines... I am soooo uncultured (but happy) lol
I'd also have to say (if I haven't already, I forget lol) that the Eagles "Hotel California" has been in my top 5 all-time songs ever since I first heard it decades ago.
Beausoleil means "beautiful sun." Avec means "with." Doucet is Michael's last name. He is a Cajun who, sadly, was a victim of the government telling the Cajuns they had to be just like everyone else and stop speaking French (which is why he's Michael and not "Michel"). Fortunately, the Cajuns decided to preserve their language and their wonderful Cajun-French music, called "zydeco." Zydeco, now, is also performed in English, but is always heavy on fiddle and certain rhythms. Some zydeco music tells the story of Cajun history and Cajun tribulations. Fun fact: when I started breeding Toy Fox Terriers, my stud dog was named "Beausoleil." His immediate offspring were named after Beausoleil or Michael Doucet albums (Cajunization, Christmas Bayou, Bayou Deluxe). Christmas Bayou has one daughter, named after a song on the Christmas Bayou album. It's just a silly naming convention . . . I love the song "Hotel California!" I once wrote a story that used that song as a frame story. One of my favorite Beausoleil songs, "Je M'Endors": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBh-lEu35EY
I prefer Megadeth's "A Tout Le Monde"...even though I think of Jacques Cousteau when I listen to it lol
My older brothers and sisters had some Beach Boys albums, and I used to listen to 'em. They put out some interesting songs, and Brian Wilson was a genius at times. By the way, interesting mug lol
Condolences.... and please don't post a current photo... not after 8 years of "wedded bliss". This site has standards to maintain.
Hands down favorite: VAN MORRISON Right up there next to him: THE BEATLES, THE ROLLING STONES, PINK FLOYD, MERLE HAGGARD and GEORGE JONES. I must say that EMINEM and THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. are lyrical geniuses and are among the few rap artists I listen to (other than THE FAT BOYS, back in the day...). I've been listening to ENIGMA quite a bit lately. Very relaxing. Especially when you're driving. It all depends on my mood, however. If I'm listening to the Blues, I usually turn to BUDDY GUY. If I'm working on the computer, I'll listen to SKY FM's Smooth Jazz Channel in the background.
