I am 16 years old and I don't know the first thing about politics. Whenever I read the newspaper or watch the news and they're talking about politics, I have no clue what they're talking about. However, I WANT TO know what they're talking about, but I don't know where to start and I want to be able to have an intelligent conversation with someone about politics in the future. How do most people become knowledgeable about politics? Do you think if I read the newspaper everyday, it would start to click? Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Nyles! Good questions. If you live in the U.S. all I can say is "interesting times". Chances are you have the same political values that your parents have or if they have none, you mostly likely have had little interest in politics up to this point. If I were you, I'd get involved in local politics, you're not too young. Internet forums like this one are more for entertainment than actual knowledge. Volunteering is a great way to get in on the ground floor and see the noise is all about. Good luck.

I would suggest you read your history books and really learn what mistakes not to repeat. I would recommend that you stay off the blogs until you really know which spiel has any validity and which (most) are total BS.

Take your time and read the news reports but do not only read them from your own countries media branch out and check what the rest of the world thinks :) you might well be suprised LOL also never take anything at face value ask questions, just because someone is older than you honestly dont automaticly make them the font of all knowladge
Check out what the different political (main stream) parties stand for then sit back and ask yourself "What do I believe in" some wont like what you come up with that I can guarentee LOL and some of your answers wont be all that smart either (I know from experience) but learn from it.
Be prepaird to listen to both sides of a argument but most of all enjoy it :)

Well being a part of this forum will surely help you out. Stay informed by watching the news, and reading the newspaper and that should help. Read through several of the topics on this site will help a great deal as well.
