So can you refresh my memory - Illinois and their unions are doing so much better because they are only how many billions in debt?
The point is that having state employees with unions or without really makes no difference. The financial crisis facing pretty much every state has nothing to do with whether or not they have unionized state workers but the unionized state workers are being held accountable for the problem while businesses get tax breaks.
Oh, darn. I always though 18 billion was less than 60 billion. I guess it does not make any difference that Texas has twice as many people as Illinois? It does not make any difference that Texas had 3/4 of the jobs created since BO created the depression?
Well, Obama didn't create the recent downturn all by himself, but he was a principle participant through his association with ACORN and other community activist organizations. The 1995 lame duck Democat-led Congress put the pieces in place with race-based changes to the Carter-era Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)..."intended" to end the practice of mortgage "redlining". That, coupled with the Republican introduced repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act...which enjoyed bi-partisan support (362/57 House, 90-8 Senate), laid the ground work for the events (and abuses) that followed. I wish for once that the Democrats stop playing politics with this and own up to their involvement. Too often they try to use economics and tax law to effect social change and, in the end, just wind up pooching the pup. I think their hearts are in the right place, but they just don't know (or care) about the consequences of their actions.
The official U.S. government report on what caused the financial crisis casts blame on Goldman Sachs for fueling the subprime mortgage bubble, Merrill Lynch for not telling investors about the true state of its financial condition and the Federal Reserve for failing to stop dangerous lending practices. Again, Really! Obama!?
Obama's "Official Government Report"...come on! Those are all tragic events that occurred after the 1995 CRA ammendments and the repeal of Glass-Steagall. It was the Democrat led Congress of Frank, Dodd, and Schumer that traded Congressional support to Fannie and Freddie for personal sweetheart mortgage deals. Goldman Sachs, like every other financial institution simply played the hand that was dealt to them by the CRA fallout. If you're looking for Corporations to be your moral compass...you're barking up the wrong tree. Corporations will naturally gravitate to the situation that is most advantageous for their shareholders...that's their purpose in life. Let me say that again in case you missed it..."Corporations will naturally gravitate to the situation that is most advantageous for their shareholders". Republicans understand this. They also understand that it's a fools errand to try to control them with endless regulation...you just end up shooting yourself in the foot by killing job creation. The solution is to understand corporations, create an environment where they can prosper while moving in a productive direction, and then don't mess with the delicate balance that creates this environment. The republicans take great care to create an economic "eco-system"...almost like a coral reef; everything cohabitates in perfect harmony...then comes along a Democratic "social engineering" oil slick and turns it all to CRAP!!! ...and "yes", Obama was right in the middle of it.
So you are sugesting turning your country over to the corporations to run in essence LOL you go for it, I would love to see just how that one works out for you Let me put it in a nut shell for you "Corporations will naturally gravitate to the situation that is most advantageous for their shareholders" and basicly to hell with the rest of you because you are not a shareholder
THANK YOU Steve!!!! That is something that is complete lost on the Right in this country. They just don't seem to understand that as bad as our elected officials can be, people that you do not elect have no reason to ever be good for any reason whatsoever. Well put and worth repeating...."Corporations will naturally gravitate to the situation that is most advantageous for their shareholders"
Will the hypocrisy from the left never cease? You make mention of the unelected while BO surrounds himself with his "czars"- folks he has personally appointed, bestowed a great deal of authority in and are accountible to no one but him. Hmmmm.......
Oh come on David get off it will you every President puts his people into places he wants them it is nothing new, we have had this conversation many times tell me just how many heads of the FBI or CIA have been elected to office? how many members of the Supreme court have been Political nominations by Presidents, or Secretary of the Treasury the list is endless The fact is you dislike the man so much every oppertunity you get you attack him You talk of Czars as though it is something new LOL
Oh and by the way every person he or any other President has put in place is accountable to the American people, they can be called to answer before any number of Congressonal commities or do you want to try and say they are above the law?
So instead you are suggesting turning you country over to your self describe mentally troubled politicians? How interesting.
That does not leave much to be "for"? For my money, the companies are at least trying to please someone. The government is only trying to protect their own jobs.
Actually, he is setting up his next job by handing millions out to private industry so that he can take a lucrative job once Wisconsin kicks his sorry ass out.
