Obama May Cut Heating Assistance to the Poor

Obama may be cutting LIHEAP funding in half for poor people:

He's doing this at the same time he's calling for a six-year, $53 billion spending plan for high-speed rail. No wonder people are already calling him a one-term president.

 

Yes that is terrible sort of like the Republican one to cut funds to the services that serving meals to seniors or the one that would cut the community anti-crime program which funds the hiring of Police officers LOL it is so easy to find these things
As for his proposed High speed rail that would help create a lot of jobs (perhaps you forgot that bit LOL) Oh and just a reminder I dont actualy like President Obama

 

If he cuts the heat, the republicans will sell the house. Remember liberal left. Just say NO.

 

What do you care as long as he cuts spending? Let the poor and elderly freeze to death, they'll keep 'til the spring thaw. We'll worry about it then.

 

Are you using the tactic of "the best defense is a good offense"? Anyway, these poor people need their heat NOW! Don't cut the funding to the poor, cut it where it's superfluous. High Speed Rail is a pipe dream and even if it came to fruition, it wouldn't be here for many years. Besides, as Moen has stated before, the government doesn't create jobs......

Are you against creating jobs? This type of project definitely creates permanent jobs.

Your hypocrisy is that you want government to cut spending but when they do you want to criticize the inevitable results of the spending cuts. In other words, you make yourself irrelevant by being a critic at both ends of the process. A hypercritical hypocrite to be exact.

You're either ignorant or your memory is lapsing. You have stated previously that government doesn't create jobs. Please tell everyone how government will create jobs with this endeavor.

A government is no different than a household. Spending cuts need to be implemented where necessary. For instance, pay the heating bill, but cut cable TV. Pay the electric bill, but cut the gym membership. Does that make sense to you?

You say they need the warmth and yes I agree with you they do but by the same token they need to eat and to be able to hire officers of the law
Now if as you say he cant create jobs then the high speed rail idea can not be his Idea can it? as it would create jobs so why lumber him with it?
Now you call for cuts in goverment spending but dont like the reality of such cuts, perhaps you would like to tell us what cuts the goverment should make in your opinion

 

And now he wants to cut Pell Grants. Cutting education and cutting heating for the poor. WOW! We were led to believe that this guy was the Messiah. Really, he shouldn't have to cut anything with his "Obama stash" and all....

 

Not surprising, BO has long advocated the shackles & noose of taking on student loan debt. "Oh, can't get your Pell Grant this year? Let me refer you to the student loan office. They'll fix you right up".

 

I'm finding the inconsistency of your criticisms odd. If Obama tries to help people by providing affordable health care, jobs, or any other assistance you criticize him for that. If Obama tries to take away heating assistance for low-income people or reduce Pell Grants for low-income students you criticize him for that. If I were a casual observer, I'd say that you don't know what the hell you want other than to criticize. I'd understand if there was any kind of consistency to your statements but the only thing that is consistent is the act of criticizing. Anybody can criticize something. I am reminded that, “Criticizing another's garden doesn't keep the weeds out of your own."

 

Mine wasn't a criticism, rather a commentary.

 

We are going to cut $2.5 billion for a program that helps put our own poor. But we give out $40 to $50 billion in aid to other countries every year. Not to mention the $150 billion we are spending in Iraq and Afghanistan.

 

Much of what we call foreign aid is actually the dollar value of the weapons we give dictators like Mubarak to maintain stability at any cost so that the multinational business interests are protected. I heard estimate that stated that of the billion and half we gave to Egypt last year 1.2 billion of that amount was for weapons. Is our foreign aid really to help people in other countries or is it mainly to prop up dictators that allow American companies exploit their resources? How do we the Americans people benefit from that equation? Our taxes, the military industrial complex's weapons, the oil industry's foreign security, and the profits either go to the weapons manufacturers or the oil companies. And we call this foreign aid? I think I want my money back.

 

On Wikipedia, it says that, of that $40 billion in aid, it is about 2 to 1 economic to military. Of course, how much of that 'economic aid' goes straight into the personal coffers of some dictator too? But, either way, I think either of them should be cut before we cut out out 2.5 billion in heating aid to our own poor in this country.
