Tax cuts? What tax cuts? Will my paycheck be bigger come payday or will we all simply be taxed at the same rate we've been taxed for nearly a decade. The gov't knows (or at least should know by now) how much revenue it will have coming in from our taxes, it just has to learn not to spend more than it takes in. Seems simple enough to me. Isn't that how you manage your household budget?
The government has done a great job of doing that over the first ten years of these tax cuts so I am sure that during the next two years (with an even bigger tax cut), they will do just as good of a job of doing the same thing. At least the Republicans are consistent, though. When the economy was booming and we were in danger of running a surplus, it was time for a 10 year tax cut. 10 years later, the economy is in the tank and we are running trillion dollar deficits, it is time to continue the 10 year tax cuts. Reminds me of that saying about everything looking like a nail... The President? Well, he is not quite so consistent. He starts off with a spending cut of 2 billion dollars for this year with a federal pay freeze to help solve the deficit problem...not a bad idea even though it is mostly symbolic and really only affects middle class workers. But then he follows that up, less than a week later, with an 500 Billion Dollar cut in revenue for the same year. Not so sure where he learned his math skills but I am pretty sure it is the same place the Republicans learned theirs.
Absolutely spot on! I just keep wondering if Obama switched parties at some point and just failed to tell anyone. Did you hear about the concessions Obama claimed to have gotten from the Repubicans? Two of the concessions were extentions of the tax breaks from the stimulus package that were put in as an enticement for Republicans to vote for it and the other concession was a child/college tax break that the Republicans had as part of their current contract with America. So Obama gave them three things they wanted as concessions? I can't wait to see Obama dismantle his health care legislation as a compromise for Republicans giving the vote to only those people that have a million dollars or more.
The only upside here is that the Tea Party members can now see what they elected and just what fools they were. 900 billion more in borrowed money to add to the deficit.
That is supposition, guessing at what you do not know or never happened . We do know a failure and it makes no difference what party Mr. Obama came from. He like most in Congress are corrupt. It appears to come from both sides of this melded party with different names.
Obama has disappointed the hell out me on this one. I thought this would be the one thing he would gladly and easily take on and he did exactly the opposite. It makes me sick. It's all over folks. Enjoy your FEMA camps when you dissent. Enjoy war and poverty on scales you can't even begin to imagine. Enjoy working for your master's pleasure that is now and forever more, the new slave labor camps. Our President and final hope has been purchased and apparently paid in full., he has surrendered to the will of the the elite, the top 2% of the wealth owners and against 98% of America. F'in absolutely friggin disgusting. Enjoy the final straw breaking and the upcoming mammoth collapse and REAL redistribution of wealth we've all earned. We're done.
There certainly seems like less and less difference every day. The only people that seem to be on the side of the people are a select number of Democrats in congress. They seem to be outraged by this compromise and are voicing their displeasure publicly. Republicans in congress are giddy with their own position and that should outrage us all.
Let's see how this argument works out: Every dollar spent on welfare magically turns into two dollars. Every dollar given to the rich man is saved in his piggy bank and when his bank gets full, he spends it and creates a lot of jobs. Then starts saving again.
Somebody answer me this question. If ten years of Bush tax cuts haven't produced jobs even during good times, why would extending them 2 more years make the slightest bit of difference? If the theory that giving the wealthiest Americans enormous tax breaks produces jobs, shouldn't we be swimming in jobs right now? Why is this question never asked by the media?
Poor liberals, see my thread on tax cuts, a reality. When the government confiscates less of our money, we have more to spend, and, that, my friends creates jobs.
Moen did you ever look at tax indexing ? That is a tax that has never been addressed by any Congress. If is was not for VELCRO you could not benefit from shoes.
See my post in a different thread. In the years after the Bush tax cuts were put in place, employment was at nearly maximum levels (understanding that 100% true employment isn't possible) and further applying Obama-logic, how many jobs would have been lost without those cuts?
Unemployment Rates I could find... 1993 - 6.9 - Clinton Tax Increase 1994 - 6.1 1995 - 5.6 1996 - 5.4 1997 - 4.9 1998 - 4.5 1999 - 4.2 2000 - 4.0 2001 - 4.7 - Bush Tax Cuts 2002 - 5.8 2003 - 6.0 2004 - 5.5 2005 - 5.1 2006 - 4.6 2007 - 4.6 2008 - 5.8 2009 - ~10 2010 - ~10 Are these numbers wrong?
Funny, I found exactly the same website. These numbers prove exactly what I and others have been saying. Tax increases or tax breaks have next to no measurable effect on the number of jobs created. Average unemployment rate from 1993 through 2000 = 5.2 Average unemployment rate from 2001 through 2010 = 6.2
Before we re-write history here, remember after 9/11 we had a crash which resulted in a lot of economic pain. Once given time to kick in, it looks like unemployment reversed itself. Again, imagine what would have happened if Bush hadn't acted.
