Anybody been following this? Have any opinions? Basically, Obama said he wanted to go to India to see the Festival of Lights because "He wanted to experience it." He's also bringing the family and heard today that supposedly, the entire white house staff will be going with. Roughly around 3000 people. Along with a floatilla of war ships, unknown number of aircraft, unknown number of light trucks and other vehicles, all the food needed for everyone for 10 days and they're booking at least one entire hotel. Every bite of food, cup of water, every resource that will be needed has to be shipped over to be used. Robert Gibbs refuses to disclose what this is costing taxpayers. Just as this traveling circus disrupts towns in this country, so to will it be for the Indian people. Sounds like they're even removing cocunuts off the trees for security purposes and shutting down areas which will hurt the poor, local businesses. On a side note, this is also a dangerous area that the government themselves have designated as an area for foreign travelers to avoid. This trip has been in the news for at least a week in advance. Why should everybody know this? Is there no security concern? BTW, is this REALLY a good idea right now? Is this not the peak of arrogance and extravagance being thrown in everyone's faces? I've heard the excuse of this supposedly being a "business trip" to secure 10 billion dollars worth of business from India, but is that really going to happen? Lets be serious. This is just another vacation because he can. He seems to enjoy abusing government resources and property for his own entertainment. He apparently loves jet setting around the country and around the world on our dime. The man has taken more vacations in the first two years than I could hope to take in 3 lifetimes. He's spent more time golfing than I have or will be able to, in my life. All you people that voted for him to help the poor..... this should be a slap in your face. While you're begging for socialism the elites you put in office will be living it up in the lap of luxury and extravagance. And you people are too stupid to see it.
Come on Vess give it a friggin break. David has already been posting this crap. So the White House is going to be empty? Are you REALLY stupid enough to believe that? Where did you hear it? What will happen while everyone is out of the White House? I suppose they could get a lot of cleaning done and fumigate the kitchen to get rid of the chitlin and greens smell that now permeates it. 200 million a day for ten days looks like 2 billion today yet I haven't seen it in ANY newspaper, TV show or heard it on the radio. Somehow this was kept secret and only people like yourself know about it? What level of security clearance do you have to get such information? By the way I did a Snopes search as well. You probably won't want to read it though but here it is. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/india.asp Have a read seriously. With numbers like these this would be ALL over the news I don't care how they might lean. The numbers are beyond stupid and the fact that it is being spread to people with exceedingly low IQs to send along is pathetic. Yet it continues for some reason. You have reached a new high on my hockey team. Or should I say low. You have gotten out of nosebleed because you're now in the parking lot. Look for loose change. The President needs it for his "vacation".
I don't believe I posted the cost estimate now did I? Because I thought it was too high as well. The point that is being missed is that we can know what other presidential trips cost, but we don't get the priviledge of knowing what this one does. Leaving it all up to speculation so they have something to hide and the rumors can keep circulating. It's obviously costing more than they want to let you know. I heard Gibbs dodging the question several times when he had a chance to put the rumors down. If it's "official business" there should be no fear of disclosure! The idea that the dollar figures can't be given because of security is total B.S. Give me a break. I don't trust snopes anyway, by what I've heard of the ownership. Obama could be laying on a beach in the carribean and they're going to find a way to explain how it's a business trip. All he has to do is make a 10 minute speech somewhere and it's automatically a business trip. The difference between business trip and vacation has become exceedingly blurred for Obama.
I really don't consider it a family vacation. It is a real Presidential visit. At the very least, he can say "Hi" to a lot of US jobs. Seriously, though, India is a pretty important country these days. And 10 C17's is nothing to sneeze at either. The jobs and money for that should buy a few million dollar a day visit by the First Family. And, First Ladies do provide a service in diplomatic missions so I have never had a problem with the public paying them to go anywhere with the President. As far as the kids, well, we shouldn't allow Presidents to have young children if we don't want them to go along. Seems natural that they would go if mom and dad go.
Well...we certainly don't want want imitating his predecessor for sure. You know...the king of presidential vacations and the most recent POTUS and finest representative the right had to offer? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/18/bush-spent-487-days-at-ca_n_158902.html http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/03/11/politics/uwire/main3927378.shtml http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-08-23-bush-idaho_x.htm
I love your sources here Vess. BASICALLY and SUPPOSEDLY. Get those from Hannity? Sounds like is another reliable source for sure. As for the security concern it would seem logical to have ample security when immersed in such an area. Is this just another excuse for you to spout Vess? If he spends $2 billion of taxpayer's money to gain jobs (which he won't) and gains $10 billion and jobs for Americans would you complain if it wasn't President Obama? Can you give me an example of the last time jobs and money have flowed into the U.S. based on an American President going overseas? You have me yawning here. See George Bush. Please exaplain who's begging for Socialism and why. 1000 words double spaced. I'm not into name calling. Just look in a mirror or any shiny surface you associate with same. Certainly can't argue with "what you've heard Vess" must make it true I suppose. If you have any balls check it out. You might be surprised. Finally..... Did you Snopes this Stu?
I Snopes a lot of things here. lol The First Lady going was pretty obvious to me (they all go places for this and that and entertain when people come to the WH too) but I didn't really think about the kids before. But, it made sense to me.
We're struggling to create jobs here in our own country. Do you REALLY think India is going to be worried about creating jobs for us? How gullible you are. What a laugh. Their sovereignty is priority #1. Unlike us where sovereignty is a dirty word. Half the jobs going over-seas are shipped to India. What does Obama think he's going to do? India newspapers report that they do not expect much change to happen or progress from this meeting. You see, it's the responsibility of the U.S. to worry about every hole in the wall country in the world, and our duty to try to improve them. But none of them have to give a rats ass about us. Obama will never figure that one out. Who's begging for socialism? Millions of people that voted for Obama. No need for a thousand words. Oh yeah, Bush's vacations were always front page news so I just want to keep this information in the forefront like before.
Yeah, Bush vacationed at his personal residence and at state parks within the US. BO takes 4000 people, untold numbers of security & military assets and books 400 rooms at the swankiest hotel in India. You really don't see a difference? Why won't he release the costs of this tour d'barack? What's he going to learn in India? That we lose jobs to India because our tax system runs companies out of the country? That our union-created over inflated wage structure creates a noncompetitive climate? That over regulation stifles production?
I put two things in bold here Vess. First being does India want to create jobs here. I'm sure they couldn't care less but considering they are now a major power yet still quite backward they just might need some military and civilian aircraft. Should we try and get those contracts or should we just tell them to ask the Russians? They need money too after all. Then you cite the Indian newspapers. Where did you garner this information? Do you subscribe to them? Somehow I doubt this. More likely it's "something you heard" which is, of course, always a HIGHLY reliable source. If this whole scenario turns out to benefit Americans will you admit it? I highly doubt it. Oh little David. Now it's a vacation written in stone is it? If that's the case ANY trip out of country that ANY President has ever made is/was a vacation. Now activate your sliver of brain to look at what I put in bold. Jobs have been flowing over seas for quite some time. This is not something that happened the mimute President Obama took office. Can you prove me wrong on this? It seems to me that even a REMOTE possibility of getting some jobs going here in the good ole USA backed by foreign money would be a problem if it was done by our current President in your world.
Now calm down clembo- my post was in response to your little buddy's, tomc, links criticizing Bush for taking vacations. You really should read before posting. I'll beat you feel silly now, jumping the gun & getting all twisted like you did, don't you? Now answer this question: Do you think the scope of this trip BO is taking is necessary?
You'll beat me feeling silly? Hell, I can't argue with that much can I David. To be honest David I didn't even bother reading "my little buddy Tom C's links" mainly because he's not my buddy. You're easy to see thrugh David. You have a great tendency to change the subject and TRY to look smart. You and TomC actually see eye to eye as in my hockey thread that YOU didn't take the time to read before going off on some silly tangent. You're just on different sides of the stands and neither of you really makes sense at any given time. I should read before posting? Pot calling kettle black big time. Now to the meat of your post. Yes.
Well maybe if you had known what I was responding to you wouldn't have got all worked up, huh? And, hey, I'm glad I made that little typo- it seems to have given you something to latch onto & make yourself feel good about. I'm happy for you. As for the "meat" of my post....you are either sacrificing your intelligence just to argue or you trully are a fool (I'll let others decide). There is no way BO needs thousands of people, huge chunks of our military assets and sole residency of the 400+ room Taj Mahal hotel to accomplish whatever it is he is trying to pull off. By the way, I don't buy the "security" concern issue (at least to this degree) because if it was as bad as he claims, why take the wife & kids and put them in that sort of danger?
