Massive cuts can be made simply by identifying redundancies & inefficiencies, streamlining procedures and a little misc belt tightening....our strength, defenses, potential advances and the ability of our soldiers to do their job doesn't have to be compromised. I have worked with companies across the spectrum & regardless of size or industry there is always fat to trim, procedures to improve and money to save. Does anyone doubt a gov't agency would be the exception?
There is money to be saved in most all government agencies. Unfortunately, it doesn't add up to anywhere close to 1.3 trillion dollars (the upcoming year's deficit). You can cut 1.3 trillion only by eliminating every government agency there is...including defense.
Maybe we could just eliminate politicians. With nobody to lobby, we'd end up spending only for those things we actually needed instead of all the sweetheart deals handed out by crooked politicians to corrupt corporations.
Well, we just took a huge step towards a balanced budget...we are freezing federal employee pay for 2 years. Only 1.298 trillion left to cut and we will have a balanced budget this year. Or, looking at it another way, only 68 billion more to go and we can pay for the Bush Tax cuts for the top 2% for this year. lol
LOL. Leave it to him to challenge Einstein. "The credentialed one" reigns supreme in his own mind once again!
This was in the Washington Post "The Pentagon will have to cut spending by $78 billion over the next five years, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said Thursday, forcing the Army and Marine Corps to shrink the number of troops on active duty"
Not one thin dime will ever be cut from the defense budget as long as Republicans control the purse strings. They believe throwing money at the military will give us the best military in the world but throwing money at education will have no beneficial effect on the education of our children. Kind of makes you wonder just how dumb they think we really are.
Really? Here's an article from from January 5, 2011: Incoming Majority Leader Doesn’t Rule Out Defense Cuts in Republican-Led House of Representatives By Matt Cover Washington (CNSNews.com) – Incoming House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said he would not rule out cuts to the Defense Department budget with Republicans in control of the House. Cantor, speaking at his final news conference as Minority Whip on Tuesday, was asked if Republicans would propose cuts to the defense budget once the new Congress is sworn in. The designated number two Republican said that “everything” would be on the table.
Ya think maybe they couldve just said yes. Thats deniablity. ''We never specified cuts in defence''. And he didnt say they would be cut, did he? He only said everything would be on the table.
Cuts need to come from the field personnel- they know what is or is not wasteful a whole lot better than someone sitting in Washington. The cuts need to come from processes & redundancies. Start at the ground level and you'll be surprised at how fast the savings begin to pile up. This would work in every dept, not just military.
