So what do you do come November when it is Gingrich v Obama? Do you put your (obviously strong) beliefs aside and vote for Gingrich anyway? Do you vote for Obama hoping to send a message that the other side gets about the quality of their candidates? Do you skip that contest on the ballot because you can't vote for either in good conscience? Do you go third party and basically throw your vote away? Then throw in the scenario that your state almost always votes for one party over the other. Does that change what you do knowing that no matter which you vote for, the state is going to go to the party it always goes to anyway?
Really? Tell me what you know of Socialism. I'd bet my pension that you have some pretty inaccurate ideas. Here is a clue: Don't confuse Socialism and Communism.
I do not know alot about socialism, you are correct. Dictionary.com describes it as the step between capitolism and communism. Lets not tangent away here, just tell us why your #1 choice, the top of your ladder, the #1 highest on your list is a socialist, and why you agree with everything he says? Please explain to us, in a new thread, why socialism is so good. Stu, I mean in a primary enviornment about the Newt vote thing. If it came down to Newt vs BO, I would pull the Goldwater theory and vote for the best conservative that I think would win. Like '08, I held my nose and voted for McCain, then I went home and took a shower, lol.
I didn't list them in any particular order. I just have heard a lot of interviews with Sanders because he is a frequent guest on a progressive station I listen to. He doesn't preach some silly Socialist manifesto but talks about America for the people rather than for just the wealthy. He has a good knowledge of history and often cites countries that are closely allied with the US that also have socialist voices as part of their political conversation. I don't like pure Socialism or pure Capitalism. A hybrid mix of both would soon return this country to the people and take it away from the powerful multinationals that currently run this country. Why would I have a problem with Sanders if that is all he is saying?
That certainly explains how George Bush got elected. You gonna do that with Sarah Palin too? I understand though...you just vote AGAINST the left regardless....same strategy I employ in reverse.
Not necessarily. The group that swings elections either Right or Left is usually the Independents. I kind of liken Independent to the Agnostics of politics. They can't commit to either party because both parties disgust them or they don't know enough about either party to pick one and stick with it. I am a Democrat but that doesn't mean that I always have to vote democrat. I can like the ideas of the Democratic Party without liking all of the people they run. I can also dislike the Republican Party but like some of their candidates. My two state Senators are both Republicans and I'd vote for them any time they run. They are good people, good friends and I like their families. They have done a good job for their district. Why wouldn't I vote across party lines. Independents are the ones that whipsaw this country from Right to Left every other year because they are easily convinced that the party in power is responsible for their problems. Independents are like holding candy out ro children and who ever has the best looking piece of candy, attracts the most independents. Some self-declared Independents vote the party line of either the Right or the Left. They only think that they are Independents. It a false protest that makes them feel good.
I can understand that. It is a common predicament. I could probably vote for Gingrich but there is no way I could vote for, say, Palin. I am ok with compromising on some things as no one checks every box but some things (like Palin) would never wash out even in the longest of showers for me. lol So, in that case where I have strong beliefs against one candidate, I guess I would have to weigh another 4 years of Obama vs going third party again.
I have to do that from time to time but it is on a candidate, not party, basis. But sometimes I can;t even bring myself to do that and go third party.
What does Newt Gingrich stand for these days? Well according to an AP news report, mostly raising money for newt Gingrich. Here is a story that comes on top of his fundraising activity from last year where businesses recieved phony awards as long as they paid $5,000. Now it seems doctors are also eligible for awards, again, as long as they pay $5,000. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/12/gingrich-faxes-doctors-in_n_759871.html It's exactly like those "Your child is an outstanding student and we want him/her to attend this great award ceremony in Wahington DC for the low, low price of $3,000 dollars." I'm just amazed people are that dumb to actually pay for these phony awards. What does Newt do with this money? Administration and travel to raise more money. http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsme...tes_itself_newt_--_but_not_gop_candidates.php http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap...12a7MxeyXGjv0HvF7yQgD9IITO4G0?docId=D9IITO4G0
I am always amazed at those dinners too. Pay 4 figures for a reception and then pay 5 figures to get into the dinner and maybe get your photo taken with the big wig of the day. It is all about people stroking their egos and paying to have it done. I have donated to a candidate once or twice in 25 years. 2 figures, not 4 or 5, and it wasn't to get a photo or fake award. lol
I think the fact that the "award" is coming straight from old Newt's organization and has absolutely no history says that it is nothing more than selling gullible people phony awards. I really like the one his organization sent to a Texas strip club. Even they had the good sense to turn it down.
Reread my post....I vote FOR the best conservative I think can win.... You have stated you stand for anything that makes the right uncomfortable....my stances never change.
Yes...you always vote FOR the right. I always vote AGAINST the right. My stance never changes either. But see....you represent the right, so therefore the rules are different for you, or so it would seem. Right good....left bad...that about covers it, doesn't it?
Wrong......conservative good, liberal bad. We have liberal repos and conservative dems ;-) I believe they are called Rinos and Reagan Democrats.
I can't help noticing that 4 pages into this thread, few can actually offer three people they agree with most of the time. That should tell you that either you are afraid to put your beliefs on the line or that you disagree with everybody even while defending one side or the other. I know that there aren't that many posters here in the first place but I probably could have predicted this response before even posting the question. Most peope here seem far more interest in the fight than the learning experience or the chance to here a different perspective. Kind of sad really.
Best numbers I can find are that about 1/4 of the US don't identify with either of the 2 major parties. I would think those people would have a hard time coming up with 3 politicians whom they agree with 'just about everything they say'. And I would also bet that there is a percentage of those who do identify with a party who would have a hard time even coming up with 3 people. I would actually be a little surprised that, in this era of the highly partisan candidate that many people could come up with 3 people meeting that criteria. But, thinking a little more about it and considering the hard core rhetoric seen here daily, a much higher percentage here should be able to come up with 3 than the population at large.
I already posted that I could not come up with 3. I said Ron Paul was probably the closest I could come up with but even then I am not in agreement with everything he believes or says. I think he is very naive that we could ever return to hard currency, for instance. It is hard to find a candidate who is a non-interventionist, civil libertarian leaning person who thinks that we should help out the less fortunate but that have to make hard choices on how much we can afford to do and how we will pay for it. lol Hell, the Bush Tax Cut issue alone should tell you that I am not going to be in agreement with many politicians on any fiscal policy. I haven't seen many politicians step up and say that they should either be eliminated for everyone or limited to those who have a household income of less than about 50K a year because we can no longer afford that particular stimulus plan.
