Heres a fact folks, and the rightys arent going to like it. John Stewart has a new book out this week, so does Bill O'Rielly.......Stewart has outsold him 2/1...... Scary, but true
The President apparently follows Jon Stewart and I doubt he is buying o'Rielly's book. Maybe he gets his news from Jon too. http://www.mediaite.com/online/obama-rally-to-restore-sanity/
Actualy Political satire is a good indicator of what is current after all these guy's avidly watch the news and read reports for good material and if they are realy good they will knock both sides of the divide
That is actually a really good point Steve! In this country, the Democrats have always used political satire to point out the hypocrisy of the Right wing while Republicans have stayed with their message of fear mongering and division to rally their base. I mean can you even name a Right wing comedy show or a comedian? There is probably a few out there catering to Deep South audiences but humor is pretty much the domain of the Left. Political satire is a legitimate form of political discourse even if it doesn’t qualify as “News”. You’d think these people would be more indignant about Fox calling itself a news organization but for some reason, that is totally acceptable. When you’re fear mongering and sewing the seeds of division, its news, but when you’re using political satire, suddenly they feel the need to point out that it isn’t news. As a great Brit pointed out…(See sign. line)
We don't have many people like that practicing it over here. That may have something to do with the direction that our media leans. Or it could have something to do with the Republicans being mostly made up of stodgy white guys.
Thankfuly over here ours will hit out at whomever is screwing it up be it left or right LOL (not all admitidly some are themselfs to involved with the political parties)
I was watching the BBC film called "The Power of Nightmares" last night. It is 3 hours long with parts 1 - 3. If you ever get a chance it is really worth watching. If you watch it with an open mind, you'll never vote Republican again. It isn't that it is anti-Republican but you certainly recognize their tactics throughout the film. In a nutshell, politicians used to sell us dreams, "A chicken in every pot", "Two cars in ever garage", etc. Now all they do is sell us nightmares. The nightmares are no more real than the dreams were.
Sorry just missread your post LOL and read a Chicken in every garage!! was going to ask what the hell does that mean! then I reread it
