Fox News Sunday and Chris Wallace More and More Irrelevant

These two MediaMatters articles suggest that Fox News has been dragged into the light and exposed for the political hacks they really are. No more than a mouthpiece for the GOP and more often the Tea Party, their "Fair and Balanced" tagline has become more of an joke than something to be taken seriously. When Republican candidates will only appear on Fox News because they know that they will receive nothing but softball questions, how vetted can they really be? If you can't face the tough questions, you don't belong in the game. As the article suggests, Fox refuses to carry any of the president's primetime messages while never failing to cover George Bush during his tenure. You can't be more partisan than that. Fine, be as partisan as you want but don't try to sell yourself as otherwise. People are wising up to Fox News' tricks as evidenced by Chris Wallaces last place rating on the Sunday morning line-up. You can fool people just so long before they see through the lies. Maybe their new tagline should be "All Lies, all the time". You go Fox!

Fox News has a Christine O’Donnell problem
September 20, 2010 8:25 am ET by Eric Boehlert
Chris Wallace took one for the team.
At the outset of Fox News Sunday, the host noted that Christine O’Donnell had abruptly cancelled her planned appearance. “This is not the program we were planning to bring you,” said Wallace, as he explained to viewers that the controversial Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Delaware had backed out of her promise to appear on Fox News Sunday.
Wallace expressed no judgments about O’Donnell’s last-minute maneuver and generally played down the somewhat jarring turn of events.
But let’s be honest, news that O’Donnell had bailed on Fox News Sunday represented a humiliating setback not just for Wallace, who lost out on a rare chance to generate ratings for his perennial last-place Sunday program, but also for the whole Fox News team which is essentially sponsoring O’Donnell’s candidacy.

How Fox's Chris Wallace became irrelevant
    September 22, 2009 8:33 am ET

You think the Obama White House hit a nerve over the weekend when it purposefully left Fox News Sunday off the president's generous list of Sunday talk-show appearances?
The subsequent whining and childish name-calling from Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace became incessant and, of course, revealed more about the bitter and bruised host than it did the White House. No doubt the pity party that the thin-skinned journalist threw for himself in the wake of the embarrassing snub was genuine. But it went on for so many days and became so consuming that it seemed there was more to it than Wallace being forced to watch the Obama news making parade from the sidelines. I think the slow-motion temper tantrum perhaps reflected Wallace's larger realization that his days of being taken seriously as a journalist are fading and that he can no longer be associated with the collectively unhinged Fox News family and maintain any dignity in the process. (Wallace's Sunday program airs on Fox TV, the entertainment sister to Fox News.)
Wallace realizes his days of having it both ways -- of being able to cash Rupert Murdoch's annual seven-figure checks without being tarred by Fox News' unique brand of idiocy -- are over, that the jig is up. Not only does the White House not care about Wallace's perennially last-place Sunday show, which functions as an in-house RNC broadcast and is watched by about as many people, but there's little indication that Wallace is still viewed as an important player within the Beltway press crowd.
His nonentity status has been hastened by Fox TV's unprecedented decision this year to essentially ban the president of the United States from its prime-time broadcasting, to refuse to carry not only nighttime presidential press conferences, but even the president's recent address to a joint-session of Congress. (Question: Will Fox TV air next year's State of the Union address? I have my doubts.)

She cancelled. So what? A humiliating setback? I dont think so. Jeez if someone cancelled on letterman, I dont think CBS would shut down. Ease up a bit.

The OP is really about Fox News, not O'Donnell so much. Palin advised her to go on Fox exclusively like all of these Tea Party whackos do once they realize that they are unable to handle REAL questions. Fox is the place people with extreme views can go to and feel perfectly comfortable. BTW O'Donnell canceled ALL her Sunday morning scheduled appearances but managed to attend other events. What is she hiding from like all the rest of these nuts? You have to wonder.

Regardless of who owns MediaMatters, and I know that it is meant to be a counter to conservative media groups, I take the stories on face value and check what is said in each story. I don't believe them just because I want to, I have to know that what is being put out there is actually fact. So if I have missed a fact, and it certainly is possible, please point that out for me. I don't need to know who owns MediaMatters, just what the facts are and why I should believe them. I'm sure you do exactly the same thing with your sources, so I won't bother telling you that Ruppert Murdock owns Fox News along with some wealthy Arab prince since we are talking about Fox here. :)

They are very upfront about what they are doing.

Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media.

Launched in May 2004, Media Matters for America put in place, for the first time, the means to systematically monitor a cross section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation — news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible and that forwards the conservative agenda — every day, in real time.

Using the website mediamatters.org as the principal vehicle for disseminating research and information, Media Matters posts rapid-response items as well as longer research and analytic reports documenting conservative misinformation throughout the media. Additionally, Media Matters works daily to notify activists, journalists, pundits, and the general public about instances of misinformation, providing them with the resources to rebut false claims and to take direct action against offending media institutions.

Just off the top of my head, the Shirley Sherrod video, the Van Jones smears, the ACORN lies, and then there are stories like these:

    (1) After a five-week trial and six hours of deliberation which ended August 18, 2000, a Florida state court jury unanimously determined that Fox "acted intentionally and deliberately to falsify or distort the plaintiffs' news reporting on BGH." In that decision, the jury also found that Jane's threat to blow the whistle on Fox's misconduct to the FCC was the sole reason for the termination... and the jury awarded $425,000 in damages which makes her eligible to apply for reimbursement for all court costs, expenses and legal fees.

Fox News pulls reporter's item with fake Kerry quotes

    (2) WASHINGTON (AP) — Fox News apologized Friday for posting phony quotes from Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on its Web site.

Carl Cameron, a Fox reporter who covers the Kerry campaign, wrote an item that looked like a news story with made-up Kerry quotes, said Paul Schur, a Fox spokesman. The item was not intended to be posted on the site.

"Carl made a stupid mistake which he regrets," Schur said Friday night. "And he has been reprimanded for his lapse in judgment. It was a poor attempt at humor."

The phony item posted early Friday read in part:

"Rallying supporters in Tampa Friday Kerry played up his performance in Thursday night's debate in which many observers agreed the Massachusetts senator outperformed the president.

'"Didn't my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!' Kerry said Friday.

"With the foreign-policy debate in the history books, Kerry hopes to keep the pressure on and the sense of traction going.

"Aides say he will step up attacks on the president in the next few days, and pivot somewhat to the domestic agenda, with a focus on women and abortion rights.

'"It's about the Supreme Court. Women should like me! I do manicures,' Kerry said."

The item also quoted Kerry as saying of himself and President Bush: "I'm metrosexual — he's a cowboy."

After withdrawing the item, Fox posted a statement on its Web site apologizing for the error. It said: "The item was based on a reporter's partial script that had been written in jest and should not have been posted or broadcast. We regret the error, which occurred because of fatigue and bad judgment, not malice." (Related site: Apology from Fox News)

Cameron has been a political reporter for Fox News since 1996, Schur said.

Asked about the incident, Kerry spokesman David Wade said: "America would be stronger if only George Bush could admit his mistakes as easily."

Now any one of these by itself would not be noteworthy but the continuous drip, drip, drip of lies and blatant support for Republicans is unequaled by any other news organization.

A little generalized here, aren't we? What specifically did FOX report on these issues that troubles you so much?

You had to go back over 10 years to find anything??

And the Cameron thing? Looks like an attempt at humor on his part but didn't FOX act swiftly to remove the info & reprimand the offender?

Beside being 10 years old, two questions on your #1. Just exactly who did "Jane" sue? What was the final resolution of the suit?

    I will save you the trouble;

Who? Tampa Channel 13 - I am sure Fox stood behind their local management
Resolution? - Fox appealed and prevailed February 14, 2003 when an appeals court issued a ruling reversing the jury.

The amount won was eventually overturned. Do you know why? Because Fox claimed that they had the 1st Amendment right to lie and distort the news. I can't think of another new organization that would claim that in open court except the folks at Fox.

They actually said they had the right to "right to lie and distort the news"? I'd like to see that court transcript. It has to be a doozy!
