Maybe we could foment some more hatred and get really stupid drunk people to feel justified in attacking random strangers for simply being Muslim. Islam doesn’t seem like it is coming off as the religion of hatred in this instance. How many of you feel really positive things about Michael Enright at this moment? I can already see him booked at the next RNC convention as an example of a “real American”. Move over Joe the Plumber.

Police: NY cabbie is asked if he's Muslim, stabbed
    By TOM HAYS, AP

NEW YORK — A drunken passenger riding in a New York City taxi cab attacked the driver after asking him if he was Muslim, police said Wednesday.
The driver told police that when he answered yes, Michael Enright pulled out a folding hand tool, reached into the front seat and slashed him.
Enright was arrested Tuesday night on charges including attempted murder as a hate crime, said Deputy Inspector Kim Royster, a New York Police Department spokeswoman.
The driver was treated for cuts to the throat, upper lip, forearm and thumb, Royster said.
The 21-year-old Enright, of suburban Brewster, N.Y., was expected to appear Wednesday in court in Manhattan. The name of his lawyer was not immediately available.
The New York Taxi Workers Alliance identified the victim as Ahmed H. Sharif, a yellow cab driver for 15 years. In a news release, the labor group noted that the incident occurred amid tension over plans for a new Islamic cultural center and mosque in Lower Manhattan near ground zero.
"I feel very sad," the release quoted Sharif as saying. In the current climate, he added, "All drivers should be more careful."
Police said the mosque wasn't mentioned during the incident that began at about 6 p.m. Tuesday when Enright hailed the cab at East 24th Street and Second Avenue.
Enright was carrying a tool called a Leatherman and, after the exchange about the driver being Muslim, turned it on him, police said. The driver fended him off, then tried to lock him inside the cab and drive to a police station, they said.
The suspect jumped out a rear window at East 40th Street and Third Avenue, police said. An officer there noticed the commotion, found Enright slumped on the sidewalk and arrested him.
A case for the tool was found inside the cab, but the tool itself was missing, police said.

And I ask again what will happen if the Mosque/Community center goes ahead? there are enough nutters in the world without giving them more ammo. but I have to point out that this sort of thing works both ways article refers to 2 recent cases in France were people were attacked for buying/eating food!!

Of course there are nuts out there. Lets not whip them up so that they feel free to act with impunity.

If you allow those that are willing to use fear and intimidation as a way to silence people and restrict their rights, you are giving into threats that only embolden bullies and thugs. You simply make the problem worse.

Why would anyone want people like this to win?

If we would just outlaw alcohol and knives, these kinds of tragedies would not happen.

I haven't read much and things still seem very fluid but this guy, if it is the bio of the right person, seems like the last person to attack someone because of the Mosque issue. Of course, maybe being drunk and/or hopped up on something turned him into something like that. Not sure I would pin this heavily on any Mosque speakers supposed 'hate speech' at this point even though that seems to be the default talking point in so many places any more.

I think that this guy is lucky that you are not his lawyer. You can take that however you want.

So this mosque that is not a mosque that is being built to "build a bridge" to the infidels is really succeeding in calming everything. Right - NOT

If that were true, wouldn't it have to be built already?

Can anyone say knee jerk. Exactly what the left does when a random act of violence occurs. They immediately indict the right. There is no evidence whatsoever that he is identified with the right or a Tea partier.

This from Michigan professor Juan Cole: “Republican National Committee slashes New York muslim cabbie.”

New York paper The Village Voice: “Was the muslim cab driver slashing the first ground zero mosque hate crime?”

Being a Tea party bashing liberal means never having to say your wrong even when your wrong.

Thanks for not disappointing us, Moen. You are so predictable.

Breaking news. The attacker is a college film student and does volunteering for an international group that promotes interfaith understanding. He has just returned from Afghanistan. Could this be one of your students Moen?

I wouldn't be anyone's lawyer because I have principles. Lawyers are a necessary evil but that doesn't make them any less evil. ;)

But the truth is that he could just be a psycho drunk (which is what I heard the police were inferring this AM) and it might have nothing to do with any Mosque or 'hate speech'.

Besides, the dude is apparently a college kid. Probably got driven to acts of drunkenness and rage by his profs. Hard telling what kind of hate they filled his head with. Looks more likely that he got it from college than Fox News.

I doubt he has any politics. He is 21. My guess is drunk and stupid is his main two beliefs.

All Lawyers are evil until you need one.

My two oldest sons were rear ended while waiting to turn into the high school parking lot yesterday and my oldest has a mild concussion and whiplash. The younger one has a stiff and sore backache. The 16-year old girl that hit them never attempted to brake and hit them full speed. I'm no fan of lawyers but I may be looking at retaining one real soon.

The girl decided to leave and go to class instead of dealing with the accident.

The police charged him with a hate crime. He did this two days after a the rallies downtown. I would think it was connected. And he is 21. Time to man up. All of a sudden he is called a kid. Seems like the village voice asked a question. It wasnt a statement. Who the heck reads The Village Voice anyway? Dont they run ads for sadists and dominatrix(e)s? Creepy. Who said he was a tea-party supporter? Everybody is making a mountain out of a molehill on this one. And for that matter, the ground zero mosque BS as well. I also looked up Juan Cole. (I had no Idea who he was till this morning.). I cannot find where he said the NRC slashes anything. I am guessing you mean his piece on the guy who did the slashing. Can you point it out to me. Thanks And what importance does this Cole guy have anyway? Is he just a blogger? Just another nutjob with a pebble in his shoe? Do alot of you guys search the web to find these bloggers. I mean He isnt a news source. I could set up a Web Page and say Muslims are secretly working for the C.I.A. And they have X-ray eyes.

That is why they are a necessary evil. ;) I have needed them too. Especially after you get one, you will know all too well the evil part.

Hope the kids end up ok and that you avoid having to get a lawyer too.

I have never hired a Lawyer for anything. I've never had a reason to. I'm giving the kids until next week to recover but if problem persist, I will seek legal advice. Thanks Stu.
