Now that Prop 8 which won a majority of votes in California in 2008 has been declared unconstitutional, what will be the impact on your traditional marriage? I've yet to hear of a plausible impact from this type of outcome. Just wondering, how will this affect your marriage? Don't speak for others, just your own marriage if you are married of course. I'll take your silence as this decision having no impact at all or just not being married.
I suspect most of us refuse to give you a sounding board. Only if I get to define what "plausible impact" is will I give you an answer. Otherwise, you'll just blow off the plausible impact that this decision (sure to end up before the Supreme Court) is already having on my marriage.
Fair enough. Maybe I should have said tangible impact or provable impact or an imapct that isn't based on stereotypes. I really can't figure out how this ruling would affect my "traditional" marriage. Is that clear enough? By the way, the Supreme Court could refuse to hear the case. The opposing arguments are pretty lame.
Coming from a non-religious, married person who voted for Prop 8, all I can say is I don't think it will have any impact on my marriage. And you can call it discrimination if you wish, but I feel morally that there is something wrong with the gay lifestyle. And if you don't think morallity has a place in our laws then something is really wrong with society. Maybe its been instilled in me from an early age, but if it was such a no-brainer issue like most opponents would make you believe then the majority of California voters would have prevailed and there would be more than just a handful of our States that allowed it.
What I see as the real outrage is how the will of the people can be so easily cast aside. I mean why was it even put to a vote in the first place? My gut tells me the pro-gay marriage crowd was over confident because of CA's reputation for being uber-liberal.
I don't know that I can answer that question. What do you find morally wrong with stealing. Or physically harming someone. Like I said maybe it is something that I was taught growing up. Maybe society. I don't know. This is my opinion and being a voter I was given an opportunity to voice my opinion. Every other species on the planet has an instinct to procreate and further the species. Natural selection helps weed out the weak and allow for a strong herd. How can it be considered Ok if it goes against pretty much every other aspect of nature? And while I don't think All gays choose to be gay, I think that there are some that do based on the perception that it is an OK/Acceptable alternative. Especially women who have been treated poorly by men. You can disagree, but I personally know women who choose to be with women because they at one time or another decided men were jerks and women would not treat them poorly.
At least you were honest enough to say that it won't have any impact on your marriage. Opponents of gay marriage argue that it will impact traditional marriage without ever offering any proof. You were the only one that has even bothered to answer the question. Thank you! Like I said, I can see no way that this will affect my traditional marriage. My guess is that neither can anyone else. The real opposition comes from a discomfort with gays and the discomfort with someone else living a different lifestyle. The discomfort that is felt by someone is no reason to infringe upon basic rights of others. Homosexuality is found in nature and gay people are a consequence of natural selection as well as straight people. Why must we view them as mutually exclusive?
You talk about morals and then mention animal instinct. Animals dont have morals. And there are homos in nature as well. I know this is the way you feel. But there should be a reason. ''Because'' is a poor reason. The procreate excuse would mean that, by law only men and women who plan on reproducing should get married. There are lots of married couple who dont have kids. Are they immoral? Are they weak? And I really cant imagine a guy choosing to take it up the butt because some girl treated him badly. But your post was interesting.
Yes homosexuallity is found other places in nature, but from what I understand a considerable amount of this is males showing dominance to other males. And I can't imagine any guy for any reason wanting to take it up the butt. The example I used specifically said especially women make the choice. I'm no prude but I don't seem to remember too many girls kissing each other at parties with guys cheering them on 20-30 years ago, now it seems that it is some sort of right of passage for girls growing up....It would seem to me that this is because gays have become so much more mainstream. Like I said it will not affect my marriage, but it may affect my childrens who know. I had a chance to offer my opinion by vote, I did now a judge decided it was unconstitutional. Maybe it will stick maybe not we will see.
Yes you did say especailly, but not exclusively. I only said that because of that reasoning a guy could make that choice, no? If yes, then that guy has more problems then being a fag. And girls kissing girls isnt a measure of homosexuality. And I hope you are talking about young girls, not WOMEN who do this at paries. I think that just might be youth being young. I am right in thinking that you dont think men and women who have no interest in having children should get married, since one of your reasons to ban gays from marriage is they cannot procreate? And if you dont mind, can you explain how gay marriage may effect your children?
Should a judge interfere with a law that was voted in. Didnt it take a judge to rule it was unconstitutional to forbid white and blacks to marry each other in parts of this country less than 60 years ago? Maybe mnurderers shouldnt be allowed to marry. After all killing is immoral too. How 'bout litter bugs?
Girls kissing each other erotically and in a sexual way is not a measure of homosexuality but it is a homosexual act. ...mostly young/college age girls, but I have been around girls in thier 20's and even 30's who will do this to get a rise out of the crowd so to speak. And your point of youth being young is what I am talking about with worrying about my kids. Nobody knows 100% what causes homsexuallity in people...how do you know that it isn't partially due to outside influence. Society blames tv and music for kids and adults committing all kinds of illegal/immoral acts...how can you say what does or does have an influence on a childs mind. I can't so I will chose to err on the side of caution. And sorry for the confusion but I don't think Gays should not be married because they cannot procreate, I use the future of our species as one of the reasons I think homosexuallity is not an acceptable lifestyle.
If a judge or panel of judges finds this law unconstitutional then I guess I will have to accept it as law, but I don't have to like it or even approve. I am not a lawmaker or a judge. Like I said before, I was given a forum to express my opinion by vote and I did. I am not the first person to lose at the polls nor will I be the last.
What exactly has the institution of Marriage got to do with having children?? seriouse answers please because as far as I can tell it has no part to play in it at all. In all honesty it is simply a contract between two people as to how they wish to live there lives, now why cant a gay couple have that same right? with all the legal implications attached to it. There are religiouse motives for many but others it is puerly a civil matter it gives each partner EQUAL RIGHTS in the eye's of the law what is wrong with Gays been given those rights? one partner dies the other inherits does that sound fair? it takes away the future uncertainty Sure it was once regarded as the right thing to do so that a child would be given legitamicy but at the same time how many married simply to creat ties between families for gains.
The question remains; How does the marriage of same sex couple affect your traditional marriage? Because those opposed to same sex marriage can't answer this simple question, the proposition was correctly struck down. If you're uncomfortable with gay people, fine, but don't relegate them to second-class citizens just because of your own personal discomfort. If there is more love and tolerance is in the world because of this societal change, where is the harm in that?
You can argue whichever side you want, the bothersome truth in the whole matter is the fact that the measure was put to a vote and decided by the people. When the vote didn't turn out the way the libs anticipated they found a liberal judge who would decided in their favor.
The marriage of same sex couples affects my wife and I in no way, shape or form. As for Judge Walker being a Liberal well the LIBER part might be correct. As in Libertarian. Seems he was nominated by two Presidents I wouldn't exactly connect with the Liberal movement. Those two would be Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. Seems that one person who opposed his original nomination was none other than Nancy Pelosi. That's funny I don't care who you are. You can read about it here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaughn_R._Walker He may be gay it seems but I certainly would not classify him as a Liberal. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38589819/ns/us_news/
Well nominated by Reagan doesnt sound like a liberal thing. And whats more is that one of the lawyers representing the couple who filed the suit is the lawyer who agrued to the supreme court in favor of G W Bush in the whole hanging chad issue. Very strange libs they have wandering around California. So I am guessing you think if a law seems unconstitional it must be endured until the next election? Do you have a problem with the several states that are filing lawsuits charging that Obama Care is unconstitional? Now remember he was voted in, thus his ideas were also voted in.
