Apparently there is a controversy along the coast about who qualifies for compensation from BP & how much they qualify for. I spoke to a friend who is involved in politics and public administration along the Gulf Coast and he was telling me stories of the claims process, particularly people requesting money for lost wages who couldn't verify their wages because...you guessed it...they never filed taxes!! He says fishermen are the worst cases. Some are claiming thousands and thousands of dollars a week in lost income but because they failed to report income in past years there is no way substantiate the claims.
Now I bet all those self-reliant fishermen who thought paying taxes was BS, will be shouting for the feds to help 'em out.
Sounds like the fisherman have been practicing "good business decisions" for the years past. Good entrepeneurism...all in the good name of profit..I don't understand the jealousy. Darn shame those dastardly fisherman are picking on BP. That might hurt that mega profit quarter coming up. I mean, BP wants to get back to their lives...after all.
What jealousy are you referring to and who has ever claimed failure to file tax returns to a good business decision?
Just a guess Spooky. You sound jealous of the fisherman or that they are "getting over" on the poor, victimized BP. I'm sorry..I thought failure to file tax returns was a business tactic. Oh that's right. I should have said they "sheltered" their actual income to avoid taxes, thus circumventing the law. My apologies for the confusion. That IS much different, after all.
I believe failure to file tax returns is a crime not a business tactic but it could all be rendered moot with the passage of the FairTax. As far as "jealousy" you perceive, could you be any less clueless? I was merely bringing up the subject not endorsing, condoning or whatever else you may have wrongly read into it.
I think BP should compensate them. And I think those particular fishermen should end up paying their back taxes and fines. Seems like such a simple concept.
The first meaningful payment has just come from that evil corporation BP......the new cap appears to have worked. Pelicans rejoice.
Yeah pelicans are the only thing that will be affected for generations to come. The repercussions of this particular act of capitalistic greed can't even be measured yet. Typical mentality though of a right winger trivializing criminal actions in the name of the greenback and the ability to analyze too deeply is also typical.
Tom, do you drive a car? Do you have a lawnmower(motorized)? Do you drink water out of plastic(petroleum) bottles? Do you watch TV in the evenings? Turn on the electricity at night? Cook? AC? Running water? Get the point. All the above brought to you by good ole capitalism. Now if you walk to work, burn candles at night(which we know you don’t unless you have a pedal based generator) or if you roast your chicken over the backyard fire then you might have a right to moan and piss about the 'evils' of capitalism. You are such a phony .A bitter jealous old fart. Your HYPOCRISY is staggering.
...and capitalism brought to us by corporate crime. Hypocrisy? I looked up hypocrisy in my little Websters. It said...definition of hypocrisy: see Republican party.
How did you hear the new cap was working. When you posted this they havent even tried putting pressure on the pipe yet.. And now they arent even going to try. So again, where did you hear it was working?
So I should bow down and.....what? If I'm a bitter old fart, you have to be a young, dumb, lemming, brainful of mush. We're an oil based economy. You seem to have figured that out. Whoopee. We're about oil, cash, more oil, more cash, more oil, more cash. That's it bud. Not much else. We need oil. That's all your mini rant proves. Whoopee.
