I certaily don't expect you conservatives to read all 21 pages of The Commonwealth Funds 2010 Report. I'd be surprised if you even read the abstract (see abstract below) to be honest but this nonpartisan report flies in the face of what Republican leaders and their base regularly claim, i.e. that we have the best health care in the world. Why woud they want us to believe such a lie? What could their motivation be? $$$$$$$$$$ Oh yeah! Despite having the most costly health system in the world, the United States consistently underperforms on most dimensions of performance, relative to other countries. The Commonwealth Funds 2010 update includes data from seven countries and incorporates patients’ and physicians’ survey results on care experiences and ratings on dimensions of care. Compared with six other nations - Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, the U.S. health care system ranks last on five dimensions of a high performance health system; quality, access, efficiency, equality, and healthy lives. Newly enacted health reform legislation in the U.S. in the U.S. will start to address these problems by extending coverage to those without and helping to close gaps in coverage leading to improved disease management, care coordination, and better outcomes over time. Funny, when the truth is presented to the Right wingers and they have absolutely no way to support the labels and lies they spew, the sound of crickets is heard...Chirp Chirp! When actual facts are presented using multi-year follow-up studies, they are scrambling for one-sentence talking points. Come on Righties! Show me your multi-year studies that prove the U.S. has the best health care system in the world. No blogs, now Faux News, just peer reviewed actual data on your position. Send in the crickets!
A rport like that doesn't surprise me. I have worked in hospitals for over 20 years, and I think a lot of our health care problems come from our use of a treatment based, rather than preventative based, system of care. If you get hurt or develop some catastrophic disease, I would be surprised if the US didn't rank very well in saving or prolonging lives. Our medical tech is pretty darn good when it comes to treatment of major things. But, our preventative medicine sucks, and that includes access, of course. But, a lot of the problem in this area has every bit as much to do with the American people as it does with the system and/or any lack of access. We, as a country, are fat, lazy and don't take much, if any, responsibility in making ourselves healthier through how we live. We spend tons of dollars treating but not much on preventing. Not sure what the 'Health Care' bill will do to change our unhealthy eating habits, lack of exercise, over-reliance on pharmaceuticals and our obesity epidemic, though. You can give people all the access in the world but, if they are intent on killing themselves with their lifestyle, it won't make much difference.
In the interest of full disclosure, it should be pointed out that the Commonwealth Fund is a liberal organization that advocates universal healthcare coverage and is headed by Karen Davis, described as a "progressive economist" in their own corporate releases. Therefore, one would have to assume the Fund would only publish studies that advanced their agenda. moen, was was that you chastised jth for? Was it using conservative links to justify conservative points? You hypocrite!
Apparently Paul Krugman (the lib economist darling of the left) has come out and admitted that the only way to sustain Obamacare is by the inevitable implementation of death panels and new taxes. Now, Sarah Palin and many, many other opponents to Obamacare were called all sorts of names for even suggesting death panels but lo & behold, here's one of the left's elite members telling us they're coming! So much for BO's promise that his scheme would lower taxes, huh? **adding the link: http://www.examiner.com/conservativ...umnist-confirms-palin-s-death-panels-comments
What, the pre-eminent liberal economist of our time saying death panels & higher taxes will be necessary to keep Obamacare going isn't news to anyone?
If they were interested in facts and logic, they'd be conservatives. So I'd say your answer is, "no". That doesn't support what they've been trying to discredit. It doesn't support their leader. It isn't convenient to them. Just drop it okay? They have a hard enough time on this board. lol! "Public debt isn't as bad a thing as many people believe- it's basically money we owe to ourselves." - Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize winning economist LMAO! A firm believer in Keynesian theory. Anyone else would be sent to the looney bin but he helps politicians spend all they want without a care.
Clembo- This is what I was referring to in that other thread. If you, tomc & dr moen had been inactive on the forum, your refusal to comment on this subject would be okay but since you've all been active I see it as hypocritical. Libs swore anyone who said death panels & higher taxes would be part of Obamacare were crazy....we'll look at what's coming from the lib camp now!
Great David. Now you're lumping with TomC and Moen again because I occasionally comment. The fact that I rarely agree with you and don't comment on every thread that you would like me to (when you attempt to goad me into it with sophmoric tactics) makes me a hypocrite. Fine, whatever dude. Define hypocrite. Or try this. hyp·o·crite /ˈhɪpəkrɪt/ Show Spelled [hip-uh-krit] Show IPA –noun 1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs. 2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements. I don't believe I fit that description and sincerely doubt others here do when it comes to me. Be they right or left. For example, in this instance, I am not suddenly saying we should have "death panels". That would make me a hypocrite you see. As it is we've had "death panels" for quite some time David. We call them insurance companies amongst other things. Can't afford it? You die. If you want to deny this happens feel free to do so. Stick to your guns man. Seems you know no other way but the attacks grow tiresome. I comment on this forum as I choose. Not to respond to your constant flow of "facts". I have stated I do not like getting into "circle jerks". IMHO you do so once again you go man. As it is I find your "facts" to be more like propaganda. I took the time to read your link. Then I went to another link from it. Sure got cut off short so I'd like to investigate more links at my leisure before I make a blind comment. Is that okay with you or should I just blindly say it's wrong and then challenge others? Seems to be your MO. I'm gonna ramble here David as I know you love it. This way it takes you a bit longer to figure out some witty response that few (if any) find witty and if they read hard enough they notice you haven't answered me. You might try this tired old line. One of my faves David. It's funny. If that doesn't work for you how about the old "Clembo you try to paint yourself as yada, yada, yada". Or how about some key words. Might I suggest Ilk (another fave) or socialist or "typical Lib"? All are terms you toss out without really having an idea as to what the other person means except they don't agree with you. I could send you a PM. I have in the past usually to wish you a happy birthday but don't know if that would be wise. After all Moen sent you a PM and you broadcast it on the forum. Guees you didn't understand the P part. As it is I've exchanged PMs with a few members other than yourself about subjects other than birthdays. None of us have ever felt the need to share them on the forum. I call it respect and these were not people I generally agree with. Hey, let's get back to circle jerks shall we? Sarah Palin thinks we should support our North Korean allies. Yes, I DO think she's dumber than a box of rocks but I chose not to comment. Left wing circle jerk after all. I did see Obama's "57 states" and "above my paygrade". Some tired sheet there man and DeOrc called you out on it. Are you disappointed I didn't respond? Does that make me a hypoctite? I can find stuff to support the "circle jerk" craze every day. Did you hear that FoxNation is reporting an article from the Onion as fact? That's one juicy Onion for sure. This crap can be found all over the net. Some folks spread it while others choose not to. OK, I think I'm done and I had fun. Blast me as a hypocritical name caller all you want. Then look in a mirror and see if you fit any of those paramaters as you define them. You do. More so than me. Just my opinion.
Complete waste of time there Clembo. Hypocrites don't look into the mirror, and neither does the right wing (one in the same perhaps but I digress..). Sorry they lump you in with me dude, but, simple is as simple does I guess.
