I had my money on the Times Square bomber being some domestic issue nutjob and not an international terrorist incident. I am not sure why but I did.

I can't say that I would have been surprised either way. Extremism is extremism no matter the cause that is used for the justification. Crossing the line into the mentality that lets you see innocent people as mere collateral to further your cause is not unique to one extremist group or another, they all have used it no matter how often the technique fails to gain them any influence. May they all enjoy their stay in hell.

I think the biggest surprise for me, or maybe it shouldn't be, was that several people from a certain political persuasion have jumped on this incident and politicized it so quickly. The law enforcement agencies nailed this guy who was otherwise unknown to them in a mere 53 hours. That is remarkable when you consider what an open society we live in. The fact that all you hear from a certain political group is that this guy was able to board a plane and even got as far as having the plane taxi away from the gate really speaks to the disrespect these guys have for our law enforcement community. They are doing a great job and we learn something every time one of these guys is caught and sings their heart out. This guy will end up bringing down a world of hurt on a couple of scum bags living in huts halfway around the globe. As far as this guy goes, I hope they hang him in a public square with a rope soaked in pig's blood after he is finished telling them everything he knows.

I agree again. I think there were some issues that probably need to be looked at and learned from. But, that is the case all the time. But the big thing is that they got him at all. I think the authorities and also the citizens who provided information were amazing. Sometimes it is mind boggling how well these law enforcement people can start with basically nothing and get the guy that quick in a situation like that.

I believe it is more of a social issue.
The Muslim followers are easy to recruit. The go and get their political posture, Religion . Military and morals from a Theocracy.
They do what they are told. Not big free thinkers. Unless they belong to a power structure, or family with money and influence.
