Well we have finaly given in and had our 1st ever Presidential style debate between the 3 leaders of the major parties ( David Cameron-Conservative, Gordon Brown-Labour (Prime Minister) and Nick Glegg- Libral Democrat) and the most suprising thing was that all the opinion polls after the event showed that the minority party leader Nick Glegg actualy came out of the debate ahead by a long way Having watched a number of American debates over the years I was quite amused to watch our 1st one ever (2 more planned) but came away quite impressed by the overall standard and very suprised by Gordon Browns performance (much better than expected) as he is not known as a speaker on the other hand I was greatly dissapointed by Cameron he came across as quite condesending in many respects. Clegg on the other hand showed he was made for this kind of debate, he rememberd the names of those asking the questions also he spoke directly to the camera, and seemed the most relaxed and hit the others when they lest expected it LOL
Tom why do you say that she is stupid? she got to be Gov of Alaska, Presidential running mate, and now tv pundit, author, properly makes a fair amount as a guest speaker and for endorsments! you might well not like her or what she stands for but please do give the Lady some credit Stupid she is not
If not stupid, then corrupt. Oh wait. The right...synonymous with corruption. Stupid she's not? Ok. "In what respect Charlie"?
Now as far as I am aware Tom she has never been convicted of any acts of corruption has she? and who is Charlie?
I think he is referring to Troopergate...the one that ended with the Alaska State Personnel Board determining Gov Palin didn't violate any ethics laws...not the one that ended with Pres Clinton paying off Paula Jones. In all seriousness, though, I think what happened in all that was probably at least shady if not unethical.
Charlie the news anchor who asked her about the Bush doctrine that she couldn't answer, as in invading another country that didn't attack us.....(because she's so smart).
If Nick Clegg keeps it up, we're looking a a hung Parliament. And that's not good. Great Britain needs leadership right now, not the compromises a coalition would have to make. Which means another election in a few years. I saw an article the other day that suggested that if the election ends in a two-way tie (LibDems and Tories - Labour's got little hope) Plaid Cymru or the SNP might even be called into the government. Wow.
Happend before, Plaid held the balance back in 77 I believe it was and goverment ran well, and actualy the economy during that period behaved very well. I also woudnt count the labour party out just yet LOL Now Scotland has opperated it's national Parliament as a hung parliment from day one of it's creation and that works well as has Wales. We had a Constitutional Committee from 1997 to 2001 under the leadership of Tony Blair & and Lib Dem leader Paddy Ashdown at cabinet level to discuss the political devolution process for Scotland and Wales and that worked just fine. So in reality to say it is a horror is rather unjustified, after all lets look at what we have had for the past 100 years in this country Tory or Labour and in the past 30 it has been about 1/2 each so both hold equal measure of blame and people are seeing it with the leaders debate We had the second leaders debate last night and again Nick Clegg emerged as the front runner in 2 out of the 3 instant polls conducted after the event! While I doubt if it will happen it is fast becoming a possibility that the Librals might actualy end up forming the goverment
Well it is official we have a hung Parliment, now the Conservatives and the Libral Democrats are in talks to see if they can join in coalition to form a goverment, if they cant then it might well be Labour who retains power! The overall results were as follows Consrvative 306 seats thats up 97 seats, 36.1% of the vote Labour 258 seats Down 91, 29.0% Liberal Democrat 57 seats Down 5, 23.0% With 28 seats going to the smaller parties like the Nationalist, those from Ulster and our 1st ever Green Party MP Now it might look like the Lib Dems were not realy in the race that is until you look at the number of votes cast for each party Conservative 306 with 10,706,647 Votes Labour 258 with 8,604,358 Votes Liberal Democrat 57 with 6,827,938 Votes As you can see it looks quite different, this will be one of the things the Lib Dems will try to get from supporting either party a fairer electrol system most likely some form of PR, so for the moment Gorden Brown remains PM hopefuly by monday things will be clearer. On a negative point there has been major contreversy concerning voters who were unable to cast there votes for a number of reasons and also possible fraud with the postal balloting, there is still one seat in the UK were the election is yet to be held that is in Thirsk & Malton as one of the candidates sied just before the election so it was prosponed until the 27th of the month. Also taking place were local elections for councilors we should know the results of that later tonight.
Allways a possibility we are a all inclusive political community hell even the British National Party and the Screaming Monster Loonie Party fielded candidates, I do beleve that someon even stood for Undead Rights
This is very true Stu perhaps I need to rethink my political affiliations LOL the strange thing is that while the Cons have taken the most seats in Westminster in the local council elections the Labour party has had sweeping gains!! which could cause some rather proplomatic situations in the future if the Cons do manage to form a goverment
