Bob Metcalfe (together with Al Gore) helped put together the internet. This is a guy who is in the know big time and he is talking about energy. It is a bit long but really good.

Bob Metcalfe, founder of 3Com and co-inventor of Ethernet, gives a lecture at Singularity University (www.singularityu.org) in July 2009. Metcalfe outlines the Enernet, applying the Internet model to one of the most pressing issues facing the globe today, energy.

Why not equip every new house with a couple of solar panels on the roofs whenever they are built, if modernizing a house the same has to be done, build them in to the walls of office blocks and all the power that is harnessed pump it into the electricity grid.
After all you do not need heat for them to work simply daylight, can you imagine the power harnessed simply by placing 1 panel on every roof top in the USA?

He is big time pro-solar. But there is a lot more to it. There are some huge energy users out there. He says that reasonably soon there will so much energy that it will be just over abundant.
