What does "white" have to do with it? Do you libs really have to inject race into everything?? You see it in every comment, behind every door? Geesh.

Is this a phrase that is used by normal American citizens in everyday life? Is it a profanity or a slur of some kind? If it is something that people say then what is wrong with the President of America saying it? Personaly I think it sounds silly but so what.

C'mon be honest with yourself and everyone else. If he was white and if he wouldve said, ''I'd like to say howdy to Derk.'', you wouldnt have a problem with it. And is howdy such a demure word for that high ranking office? And you mentioned knuckling up and chest bumps. Chest bumps seen mostly in basketball and mostly by black players. And knuckling up, also a predominately black gesture. But you know all that already. Thats why you brought it up. Did you also have a problem with G H bush and his passion for pork rinds? A snack usually reserved for folks whose homes have wheels. Or Reagan and his jelly beans and cowboy hat? Or for that Matter LBJ's and his? And his BBQs at the White House? Oh yea all that was so Presidential too. So tell us why is it so horrible that he used a a trendy term like he did? Why can he not use a relaxed verbage. What exactly bothers you about it? I mentioned other Prezs and thier use of non presidential venacular. And let me make it clear; I am not calling anyone racist. Its the intonation of racism that is curious. for example if it was Peter Gomez who was POTUS and he was on TV and said 'I'd like to say ola, to Fernando. And then someone made a comment like 'At least I havent seen Gang signs and low riders at the White House.'. Well that would seem kind of racist. To me.

Not really. Unless they are regularly on TV or Radio in their everyday lives. And, in that case, they typically aren't 'normal' anyway. ;)

In order to 'shout out' to someone, there needs to be a reasonable assumption that they will hear it. It doesn't make much sense for me to go out in my front yard and give a 'shout out' to Derk Jerte. But, there is a pretty good chance he will hear it if the President says it. lol

Funny how you would glean "racism" from a few things I have pointed out from everyday life and extrapolate them into gang signs & low riders. I didn't/don't view "shout out" as a black or white thing, I see it as slang or vernacular of the young. My point is that it is very Un-Presidential and well below the dignity of the office. Everyone says we should show the prez a level of respect...if not the man, at least the office. Is this respect-worthy behavior from a sitting president or is it a sign that this guy is a little too immature to be making decisions that will effect our lives & the lives of generations to come?
Craig, I firmly believe- based on the fact that you suspect racism in every comment- that this is more a reflection on you than on the people you accuse. There is an old saying that goes something like "People are most suspicious of what they are the most guilty of".

David you didnt mention the chest bumping or knuckling in your retort. Like I said those are primarily associated with young black culture. I know you know that. I am saying you took things that most blacks do and you linked them to the Prez. And I compared them to something someone might say if a latino was Prez. I didnt say you were racist. I said it looked racist. Do you expect this guy to be brooding and austere all the time? He cannot enjoy himself? Should they change the eligibility age to 65 for Prsz. Would that be old enough? Venrnacular of the young? He is young. Do you want him to tell gay jokes and wear a cowboy hat like Reagan? Would that prove hes mature?
