The Obama administration has very quietly asked for an extension of the Patriot Act.

For those of you who believe that Byush and Cheny belong in prison and ranted on and on about the violation of your privacy, do you now have a problem with this?

Will we see any intellectual honesty here? I surely hope so. For the record, I was for it then and am for it now. We just again saved NYC from subway attacks due to this program. This week.

    Any takers?

Not defending Obama BUT, if he hadn't shuffled the Patriot Act along, the right would have crucified him as weak on defense ,etc. Bush and Cheney most definately belong in jail.

Intellectual honesty? Now that'd certainly go a long way with 911, wouldn't it?

I mustve missed that story of another subway attck foiled by the P.A.. however I did come across a story in the same vein. About a Brooklyn subway line planned attack that was thwarted by authorities about 12 years ago. Long before the Patriot Act. Imagine that. Police and Federal agents being able to stop terrorist attacks without the P.A. So then why do we need it?

    Tom
I have yet to see anything at all about insider trading or illegal invasion of countrys, our military actions were approved by congress right? ...Election fraud ?????? really? How was the election, either of them fradulent? Show me.

Patriot act was approved by congress......

hunting accident? Get serious, they happen.

Cmon get real. You do have something on illegal wiretapping tho, it was ended by the Supremes. Not a jailable offense tho, and we were safe right? No attacks on the homeland. I'll give ya that one. Id rather be un-attacked tho to be honest.

Perhaps you are just a Bush hater. Period.

Hate without foundation is the worst thing. Hate with foundation is the second worst thing.
Life is too short to hate, dont ya think? It kills YOU. It is not allowed in my life.

My post was to show that terror attacks can be foiled without the Patriot Act. Like I mentioned the one that happened 12 years ago. Before the P.A. Thats all.

    Bush jail qualifications

Voter fraud for example..2004. Hre are some. I can post many more.

eg) Orange County Florida voter turnout was 386,104
    Bush votes were 387,752

    Palm Beach County,FL turnout 452,061
    Bush 542,835

    Leon County, FL turnout 136,229
    Bush 136,314

    Volusia County, FL turnout 209,052
    Bush 228,358

The Patriot Act was approved by Congress. True. I guess that nullifies it being illegal, unconstitutional or plain morally inept.

Hunting accident was a joke, but if he weren't VP, good chance he'd be in jail.

You conceded on illegal wire tapping. Jailable? Maybe not but it should be.

According to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission records, on four separate occasions Gov. George W. Bush disregarded federal statutes by failing to file insider stock trade reports on a timely basis, back-dating one trade by some four months. Moreover, one key trade just a few weeks before Iraq invaded Kuwait -- but reported some eight months late after the Gulf War was over -- netted Bush close to $1 million in profit as he sold stock in Harken Energy, an oil company doing business in the Middle East wherein some of his father's largest contributors also maintained substantial positions.

    Illegal War

    (b) PRESIDENTIAL DETERMINATION- In connection with the exercise of the authority granted in subsection (a) to use force the President shall, prior to such exercise or as soon thereafter as may be feasible, but no later than 48 hours after exercising such authority, make available to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate his determination that--

    (1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic or other peaceful means alone either (A) will not adequately protect the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq or (B) is not likely to lead to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq; and

    (2) acting pursuant to this joint resolution is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorist and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

Finally, yes I am a Republican hater in the pure political sense. Hating actual people depends on the individual.

Of course he extended it. That is too much power for someone in that position to ever give up....even if he actually thought he could give it up before he assumed the powers. And he may well have thought that.
