I know people get all excited about the hypocrisy thing but does it really matter? Say someone doesn't like like gay marriage. Does it matter to them if their representative is tapping feet with a guy in a bathroom stall as long as he votes the way they want him to? Just a though. But, obviously, this guy is boinking a lobbyist and that is more than just a 'family values' thing...
I think honesty is something we should expect from our elected officials. The problem with saying that we should be happy if they vote how we want them to vote is that we are relying on them to be honest about explaining the bills to us that they are voting on, because all of the bills, especially the ones that become laws, are so complex these days that no normal citizen can be expected to understand them and we rely on our elected officials to be honest in telling us what is the content of what they vote on, and if we can't rely on them to be honest for simple things like this, how we can rely on them to be honest about complex things where they may have financial incentives to deceive the public?
I realize the intent of your post was to create some type of debate/conflict/whatever but the simple fact is that there are an equal number of bad people in both parties. We should be happy when they are exposed & we can get them out of office. But have you ever noticed that it does seem the Republican offenders are run out of office while the Dem offenders are "rehabilitated"...thinking Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Bill Clinton, sorry my fingers are getting tired from typing all these names.....
While I would agree that politicians are scoundrels by nature, I find it interesting that you get all up in arms when a Kennedy, Barney Frank, Clinton, or any other Liberal crosses the ethical line, but if it's a Republican you go out of your way to excuse the behavior.
I won't excuse the behavior. Quite frankly it pisses me off that this guy is being highly paid to represent his constituents while lobbyists are having affairs with him to get what they want. Makes one wonder what other conversations are going on there that are not overheard? This guy was a buffoon. Inexcusable. I'm glad he quickly resigned. How could you look anyone in the face again anyway? Although, in the overall big picture, this is a very minor issue right now. Almost the least of my concerns.
Maybe I am too cynical but I think real honesty disappears with the money and the power. Diddling a lobbyist is unacceptable and this guy should be gone. Breaking the law is also unacceptable. But diddling a model or whatever, I don't even think rates as a news story. Whether it is a 'family values' guy or not.
Thats only three names. I think the difference is that the folks you mention arent kidding anyone with what they are. While the other side of the aisle claims to be pure of heart. So when they are exposed it make them look more foolish than the other fools.
You actually proved my point. We know what they are now but each one was a scandal at the time. The Dems let it go and these guys become "rascally scoundrels". The Repubs go away in shame (as they all should).
LMAO No Peter, actually his boyfriend ran a gay horehouse ( spelling intentional ) and outcall escort service out of his basement in Washington in Franks home.....but, get this, Barney didn't know about it
Probably so... since I don't like either party and think they are both full of nothing but unethical and immoral jackasses.
