Do you think it was proper for Obama to call members of the Cambridge, MA police department "stupid" while admitting he didn't know the details of the incident?

If the police arrested you for breaking into your own house and you told someone that that happened and the someone said, ''Wow, are those cops stupid." Would you say to that person, ''Hey thats improper. You dont know the cop's side.''. Would you say that? Face it; most cops act before they think. And this post is really reaching. Maybe he meant that only the stupid members of the Cambridge, MA Police department are stupid. I knew alot of cops that were stupid. Youre grasping at straws, man..

Hey, just asking a question here. Is it okay for the Prez to call a member of law enforcement "stupid" without knowing the facts of the incident?

Should someone ask him a question like that? He is human. Do you know the facts? You are suggesting he doesnt. He is simply the President. That title has no law enforcement wieght or clout. Youre acting as if members of law enforcement are above reproach. If you are suggesting he should have some loyalty or professional courtesy to some buffons who just want to night stick a guy, he has no such obligation.

Calm down craig, take a deep breath & listen up. My question was simply this: Was it proper for Obama to call the police stupid while admitting he didn't know the facts of the case. Sounds like guilty until proven innocent, doesn't it?

look who is talking, YOU are misquoting Obama and YOU are taking him out of context:

    "

"acted stupidly." Here's the full quote:

"I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry. Number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. And number three - what I think we know separate and apart from this incident - is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that's just a fact."

Now if he just came out and called them Stupid then yes that would be highly inapropriate behaviour from the man at the top, BUT if what Danr wrote is the full text of what he said then I have to say no. David is what Danr wrote correct are they the Presidents words?

Weren't the police acting on a call from a neighbor who called them and reported the man kicked in the front door of the house and entered? If that happens here, I hope the cops are "stupid" enough to come investigate.

Stupid or acted stupidly? What's the difference...you guys sound like Bill Clinton trying to parse words. Either way it was a slap in the face to that police department especially when (this part wasn't included in the snippet above) Obama offered that he didn't know all the facts yet. Maybe when the investigation is complete it will turn out that the cop did act stupidly but until all the facts are gathered it is reckless & irresponsible to start name-calling. I would expect more from the Prez.

I am calm. Try not to throw this 'stupid' post another way. No matter the facts; it was stupid for the cops to arrest a guy for breaking into his own home. I dont care if that guy started yelling, '''GET OUT HONKY PIGS.''. Or anything else. Once it was proven the guy lived there they shouldve left. You are suggesting that the President owes the police some alligence. I dont think he does.

It is just funny that you are on his case for not getting the facts before commenting when you were doing the same thing.

Regardless whether he lived there or not, kicking a door in and entering is not normal behavior and would raise suspicion from any witness or police officer. Even if the suspect did live there then restraint is still probably a good idea for everyones safety until it is discovered, without doubt, what caused such abnormal behavior from a person and all other residents are ok.

To help avoid such incidents in the future, maybe Obama should suggest anger management classes to his friend. LOL

Again David is what Danr wrote correct or is he making it up? is that what the president said.

Thats just nonsense. 'Without doubt'. Who's doubt? The police officer's? You know what caused such abnormal behavior? He couldnt get in his house! This is just a post from a guy who does not like this President. So it doesnt matter what Obama does, or what he comments on, or what shoes he wears; the author of this post isnt going to like it and will let everyone know. 'Is it proper for the president to...'. Who cares? Its such a nothing issue.

Tell me David if the President had said, ''The Polics acted appropriately.''. Would you have made that a thread? And asked how Obama could issue such a statement without knowing the facts? Be honest with yourself.

I'll fill you in DeOrc. DanR quoted correctly here.

He didn't call them stupid he said they acted stupidly. He didn't know exactly what went on because he wasn't there.
NOW, I have broken into my home in the past because I locked myself out. I DIDN'T kick down a door and I don't believe this was the case either but can't say for sure.
Has anyone here tried to kick down a door like they do in cop movies for that matter?
Had a neighbor called and reported me and the cops showed up I would not have had a problem. Unless they acted stupidly or were just plain stupid. Even then I would probably just keep my mouth shut after giving ID etc.

Another point here is why this was asked of President Obama in the first place when the issue at hand was basically health care. If I'm mistaken prove me wrong.

What's the more important issue here? Actually hearing what Obama has to say about healthcare or what happened in an odd incident? What will affect this country more?

Seriously folks. The President could have phrased this a bit better I suppose but why in the hell was it even brought up? Save it for another attack based on twisting words and paraphrasing. As a nation I think we have bigger problems right now.

Seems a lot on the "right" side haven't quite figured that out yet.

Obama has now apologized to the Police Dept & the officer involved so I guess at least Obama knows he was wrong even if some of you guys are bent on his fervent defense.
And by the way, I didn't post anything more than the simple question of whether or not the Prez acted responsibly my commenting before he knew the facts...funny how you get whipped into this defensive frenzy when the guy is questioned!

I agree, the president needs to concentrate on more serious matters and not worry so much about his violent, racist friends.
