You realy dont get it do you!! no one other than you is saying that cops are evil (You say we think it!! ) yet you fail to understand a simple matter of right and wrong. If the rules for Police officers say they take NO GRATUITUES then by right they should take no gratuities can you understand this simple idea? Why do you think the rule is there in the 1st place?

Now would you care to show me were I have said or intimated that all cops are evil? or that they all break the law or were I have said I do not respect them? If you can do this I will apologise to you profusley

De Orc, I don't think you get it. They can, and have accepted gratitude of the citizens they protect, in the form of a thank you, or in the form of some coffee, or maybe a slice of pie. Steal not a big deal in my opinion, but maybe I think they deserve it.
The vibe I get from you is that all cops are evil and they must be stopped from taking that cup of coffee, because soon they will be crossing the line, all of them, in exception to the cops who have already crossed the line... This is how your posts come off to me and others as well.

It is coffee and doughnuts... Tomorrow it won't be a a TV and a lap dance... It will still be coffee and doughnuts... Yes there are exceptions of bad cops, who just cross the line, but for the good cops, protecting the community, and doing all that they can, it will continue to be coffee and doughnuts.

Again I ask you to show me a single post were I have even hinted that cops are evil? It realy is not my fault that you are unable to grasp such a simple concept. I have never said they shoudnt recieve the free cup of coffee those are your words, actualy try to read what I have written and dont make things up. The rules are in place for a reason now it matters not if we agree or disagree with them the fact remains that they are in place, and all I have done is say what the rules are so that makes me a cop hater LOL
When society gets to a stage were individual citizens can pick and choose which rules they will follow and which they will ignore is the point where civilization stops and anarchy begins.

    Thanks Elmosworld,

I hope the vandalism WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE of the police station stops as well.

I don't recall saying that coffee and donuts lead to "harder drugs". You know like pot leads to crack in many peoples minds?
That's not my point in any way, shape or form. My point is if a cop is having a donut or shooting the breeze when he should be somewhere else he's not doing what he is paid to do with taxpayers money is he.

Now I can actually see the police station from where I work. The bars are open till 2-3 AM. Wouldn't it make sense to have a cop right there in town at those hours?
It would only take a few patrons being arrested fot the bars to start enforcing the rules. Rules such as not leaving the bar with a beer bottle in hand.

I've never had a problem here when I had to call the cops. I have some lovely neighbors across the street so believe me, between myself and my other neighbors they've been called and responded in a timely manner.

I'm in a residential area so I really don't expect cops to be patrolling every ten minutes nor do I want them too. A waste of money.

Now considering that there is activity downtown into the wee hours of the morning I DO expect cops to patrolling. Only makes sense. Be where the trouble is most likely to start. I would hope there is a cop or two that IS supposed to being doing just that.
Yet the vandalism happens and no one notices until we arrive to our respective places of business.

So where might the cops be and why are the people trained to notice things like broken windows so blind to it? They drive right by it to get back to the station.

I may seem to be vilifying cops here but I'm not. Get your coffee and donut then hit the road to where you're supposed to be.
Hell, maybe I should start serving coffee and donuts at my house.

Clembo I am 100% behind the get your donuts and coffee then hit the road.As far as your specific problem, your suggestions seem more than reasonable. I would only like to add that if it were me and my town, I would suggest an alarm system. No telling if it is mere vandals, or would be thieves checking the security. Once word gets out that the cops don't pay attention on businesses that have no alarm system, seems to me your town may experience a crime spree. These days in this economy especially, if it is only a vandal seeking some revenge, or people with more sinister intentions. Believe me once that alarm goes off someone is going to call just to turn the noise off.

All I ever said was that it was illegal for cops to take gratuities. I never said they shouldnt do it. I never said they cant do it. Is it minor to take coffee? Yea. But they arent saints. Just people. Some of them are down right mean sons 'o guns. You may have no sympathey for junkies. Thats fine. They became dependent on a drug. Like alchies and cigarette smokers or caffiene junkies. Some people arent as strong as others. And I dont think little girls dream of being hookers when they grow up.

Craig I can agree with all of this, as for sympathy for junkies and hookers, I am sorry they have these problems. I have seen outreach programs do great work with some and a waste of time on others. I believe in a earlier post I connected education with these problems. There is just so many people we can help, I also feel if we concentrate on those kids dropping out, that the druggie and hooker problem would be more manageable.

Please let us not argue about whether or not there are any educated hookers or druggies. Like we agreed on there being good cops and bad ones, and others worse than that. There are educated people that are druggies and hookers. I believe though if you add up all the druggies and hookers the educated are out numbered by the drop outs.
