I find it very interesting here and on other blogs. When a " righty" posts links and clips, they are most often from DrudgeReport, NewsMax, Washington Times etc etc. When a "lefty " links, it is most often from the DailyKos, Huffington, NYTimes etc etc I see the righty's calling the left sites DailyKooks, Puffington, NY Slimes etc, and the leftys call it the FudgeReport, NewsHacks, WashingtonCrimes etc Talk about blinders on for all of us. We tend to only read one side of the aisle and spectrum of all the news available. Yes, I am aware that much of this is political commentary and op-ed stuff, not really "news".. Who here reads both....who here really considers the other side before taking a stance and forming an opinion. Who really does their own research? Just a thought.
An excellent point and question all in one Jack. I take a lot more time to listen to the other side than I used to for sure. Hell, I have no choice at work. I get a pretty much daily dose of Mancow and Rush. Rush generally makes me want to puke I can't deny that. Mancow claims to be a Libertarian but his rhetoric is so much of what I hear from the far right. Just the other day it wasn't sociallist healthcare it was Communist. I applauded him when he actually DID subject himself to waterboarding though. As for what happens on PRWE I DO read links and yes they get ridiculous from both sides. They influence my decision as to whether or not I should even bother to reply. I also tend not to reply to a thread early anymore. I've noticed you do that as well. Sometimes I don't reply at all. It is all political "opinions" and any stat can be made to mean anything. I realize this and betting most here do. I may not agree with a lot of you folks but having a sliver of brains does seem to be a prerquisite here. If a subject really hits me I dig deeper. I look for all views. I may seem to come out on the left in most cases but it's only because I rarely agree with the right. These patterns are always subject to change.
Yep. I noticed it. I have doubts about some of those links as being real. Sort of like World News or the Inquirer. They use real names and places, but after that I think the substance is lacking.
I listen sometimes...I think it has a liberal bend without doubt... I know people will probably poopoo this but but I enjoy watching BBC. I will tell you what I see is lacking, straight news. There used to be a channel I watched called Headline news (I think its CNN). Most of the time it was just a person reporting the events of the day. Now...there is hardly a single channel that doesn't have wall to wall talking head shows...these days what passes for news is downright shameful...did I hear O'Riely got some news award? He is not a news man!! He is a very vocal, biased, pundit. I think the US has forgotten what 'news' is!! News is the events of the day...not picking one or two events then spending the next hour with five pundits bickering about it...Five talking heads on my screen talking over each other IS NOT NEWS. For news I just read my local paper (AP) and I try to catch BBC for world events. I dont read news on the internet. I understand bias can be subtle...often times bias comes out in what you choose to report...not how your report it...other times the whole damn thing is all bias. I dont need 5 talking heads in boxes telling me how I should interpret a story or an event...I just want the facts of the story and I can make up my own mind. I miss the days of one guy with a teleprompter and some papers reading off the events of the day and NOTHING MORE. I believe 24 hour news channels and their need to get ratings and keep us watching has destroyed REAL news and left us with the garbage we have now. The best, unbiased source for news is often C-Span, BBC for world, and AP. Look at your so called 'news' channels on your TV...is there even one just playing news? even Headline News plays people like Nancy Grace. Oh...and for those conservatives in exile or underground? Fox is one of the biggest 'news' outlets in the world....you aren't underground
I try to get my news from as many sources as possible, I get updates from the Washington post, News France, BBC, Telegraph and the Times, daily I also watch CNN, Sky news, BBC 24 news, Channel 4 news. When I am on the puter I quite often will pick a US talk radio station to listen in to as well. at the moment I have WBAP out of Fort Worth on
Well I think I have just heard it all I am listning to Rush Limbargh (think I spelt it right) well this man has just informed America that Hitler was a Leftist yep you have it right Hitler was a left winger and by the same token the nut job who decided to attack and killed a guard at the Holocoust museum had to be a Left winger!! Obama supports Holocoust deniers and hates Jews!!
Talk radio in America is almost entirely right wing...and when I say right wing I mean pretty far right and Limbaugh is their god....then you have Hannity which is roughly similar, then it matters where you live as to who you get but you then get into the even more rightwing Mark Levine...this guy is a trip and a half what he will try to pass off...he is shrill, goes into real over the top rants. I love listening to these shows and I dont know why because I seldom agree with them even though I consider myself a conservative (fiscal)...or even when they are using factual information, the conclusions they draw are always leaps...If someone happens to get in with a valid counterpoint, they will, more often than not, shout them down...thats why most of the callers are just agreeing with them. I remember listening to Hannity one day and a caller called in to dispute his assurtion that Obama was wrong for saying we are not a christian nation...he did not deal with what the guy said but instead goes off on a rant about Obama (other aspects of his administration) and the caller never reappears to finish his point. Same thing on the Glenn Beck show...they are talking about teach religion in schools, a guy calls in with very good reasons why this probably isnt a good thing...shouted down. On night I was listening to Mark Levine and he goes off onto this spiel about how he knew he was destined to be a great speaker because he was blessed by god with great intelligence and an uncanny ability for the spoken word...I imagined him, as he was speaking, putting on royal regalia and a crown...this man is FULL of spite....and to be honest his voice is very shrill so to be honest his voice is not perfect for a person who makes his living ranting on the radio for a living.... he reminds me of a bizzaro Howard Stern. Limbaugh is a man who seems completelyunconcerned with facts...Or a man who can draw any conclussion he wishes from any facts...he is unabashidly biased. The one thing I find about him that is quite telling is that when someone calls to disagree, he actually mocks them...the way they speak...like he is on the play ground of elementary school. Not to mention the guy was busted buying and taking illegal drugs, quite a large quantity...he was hooked on Oxicotin and took so much he suffered hearing loss from it....all the while he is ranting about how drug users deserve NO leniency...I believe his actual words were...'send them up the river and throw away the paddle'...although when it is found that he took enough pills on a regular basis to kill an elephant (from illegal scripts and buying them from the boyfriend of his housekeeper...or some such arrangement)...he remains free...not a day in jail...and his listeners are undeterred by his hypocrisy...they seem to think its different with him...he is a victim of drug addiction caused by a medical condition...while all those other people are just scumbag users. If I had been caught doing what he did...I would most likely be in prison...must be nice. In the end...especially Limbaugh...its hard to tell if some of the nutty things they say are how they truly believe of if they are just trying to one up each other for the sake of ratings...I know that when I listen to Rush...he often likes to quote his ratings...so I know its very important to them that they get as many people, whether they agree with them or not, to listen...as it is their job and if they dont keep you listening...they are out of work. This is why, IMO, anyone whose job depends on them keeping your attention...you should take what they say with a grain of salt because if its between just saying the truth in a non-controversial manner...and going all out and over the top...they will go over the top because it simply equals more ratings... Hannity likes to call himself the conservative underground...this guy who is on both AM and FM radio here in Houston as well as a show on the fox network...underground doesnt mean what it used to it seems
Do any of you guy's do regular exercise? Well if you do STOP NOW you are the people putting preasure on the hospitals and Doctors in the USA Yep you guy's are to blame for higher medical care costs LOL man I like this guy It's all your fault that health care is way Sooo high LOL
He is the best friend of many, the # 1 ranked show in the history of radio. Hannity is #2. (Neither have stolen money from investors and failed miserably like Air America.) He lost me, as did Hannity after the GM commercial flip flop, i posted a thread about it. A major credibility gap now exsists. Both will say anything for money, they made that clear. I still listen to both at work, but take what they say with a gain of salt. I also like NPR, but do see the liberal tilt, but not nearly as bad a MSNBC. You need to view and listen to all sides, then do your own research and thinking.
I'll tend to agree with you on this Jack. NPR is a bit liberal but not as much as it once was. MSNBC - yup very liberal for the most part but there does need to be a counterpoint to people like Rush and Hannity. Is that a fair statement? Now as I stated in my first post Rush tends to want to make me puke. I listen to him too. Now I'm sure you're not quoting here DeOrc but is this what you got from it? I'm betting millions of Americans did too. This in mind I'll ask the question. Who is the Messiah? Is it Rush or Obama? Who's drinking more Koolaide and what flavor? Enough Rush bashing (although he deserves it IMHO) let's get back on topic. What do you hear from people around you? You know, those that don't hang out on forums and discuss, argue at times and actually bother to read another's views? I keep my mouth shut at work. I've mentioned this in the past. Today I got to overhear my boss telling one of our "jewelry ladies" about Socialism and Communism (the way our country is headed of course). He may as well have been quoting the right wing radio directly folks. He not only listens to this stuff he takes EVERY word as gospel. This scares me folks as much as any "righty" might be afraid of what they hear on MSNBC and probably more. These are "top rated" shows of all time? If that's the case and if you honestly look at the people around you what does that tell you? HERE ON PRWE we may actually take the time to look but Joe average doesn't. Would that be a fair assumption? If not tell me why and I know it goes both ways. In this scenario the country is being "polluted" by the airwaves. Will this help secure our future?
well...as an average joe myself...I feel you under estimate average joes. Americans are smarter than most elitists who think they are above us think
That didn't come out too well did it Drusus. Hell, I'm an average Joe too. My meaning comes from what I observe. Many take anything they hear as the gospel if it suits them. Actually doing abit of researchon their own is unheard of. Then they spread the word in a sick version of "Chinese telephone".
Not sure if that is true or not, certainly some probably do this...others might do research on their own and find they agree with what is being said. Others who might seem like they know little about politics and the events of the day might just be unconcerned and their interest lay elsewhere. Certainly I know people who simply disdain politics, others spend hours each day reading every news outlet trying to stay up every little bit of dirt, rumor and opinion any one might spew forth. I tend to think that Americans are more informed now than ever before. A large percentage of us have multiple media sources bombarding us every day, 24 hour TV, the internet, newspapers, radio, etc...etc...Its often hard to wade through all that crap and figure out what is bull**** and what is valid...and maybe some just don't feel like trying. My father is a good example. He is a bright man with a college degree but when it comes to politics he seems rather uninformed. This would be because he doesn't like the internet, he doesn't like TV much...he reads a newspaper in the morning...and he has better things to do with his time than to read the flood of information and try to wade through the pundits (which everyone is these days) or to bicker and debate. He is a very brilliant mathematician, he just doesn't care to spend 3 hours a day keeping abreast of the latest dirt...whether Obama picked his nose today is not a concern for him as much. Possibly its just very daunting and in the end, him being informed doesn't change the reality...politics is much like a movie...you watch it, but you cant really effect the story line as average Joe blow. Most average Joes have more common sense then those so called leaders who are often time ten times more flawed than the normal person and often times with far worse judgment. Most average joes I know seem to have a better grasp and say less stupid things, and have better common sense than pundits I see spouting off some of the most stupid inane crap every day. This is why most people with 2 brain cells wouldn't even try to obtain one of those positions. I find that most people I meet and talk to are rather bright people and all those masses of stupidity I keep hearing about are just normal people like myself who sometime do stupid things...Those who seem to think they are somehow different from the average Joe...THEY are often the people I find to be a bit deluded as IMO, anyone who thinks they know it all and have it all figured out is certainly fooling themselves. Nobody thinks they are stupid, most people think they have a good grasp on things... Hell, I think of myself as reasonably thoughtful but I have done stupid things...I have a feeling the lions share of those stupid people are often relatively bright people who just had a stupid moment. anyway...sorry for the ramble...not trying to divert the thread or anything.
Strangley enough I was quoting it purty much like the man said it, He and I repeat stated Adolf Hitler was a Leftie and the Von Braun person had to be a Leftie as well cus he hated Jews!!
