Absolutely. Military service is a choice these days. Anyone who doesn't like the choices can get out at the end of their commitment or not commit in the first place. I have no sympathy for that kind of stuff. And, no, I do not believe in trading freedoms for 'security'. It is a sucker bet. Freedoms rarely come back easily after once lost. There is always another 'threat' around the corner to keep you scared of.
What are you talking about? So you were in the military. Lots of people were. And most dont carry on about it. What you are talking about is your doing. that is what you chose. You just didnt have to re-up. Its apparent you cannot adjust to civilian life bud. Have I been where? The point I'm trying to make is I performed my duties throughout the world with the threat of terrorism. I have a little more knowledge on the subject than most. I have spent time in other countries seeing how other cultures live. You are right I could have not re-enlisted. And I do not stand behind the flag I like to think have defended the freedom's of US citizens regardless of their beliefs. And I expect nothing in return. Thanks for you 16 years of service, so close to 20 yrs where you could retire.......something must have happened, Hope you are OK.
The military defends us from external threats - well, that is the idea anyway, in practice it isn't always Americans they are really protecting. But, anyway, a strong, ever vigilant citizenry is the only thing that can protect us from internal threats. And those internal threats come from the powers that be that want to take freedoms away under the guise of keeping you 'safe'.
No need for thanks. I did it so I could beat up nig-, uh I did it for the benefits. A better job came along and I could take my family out of NYC
On the first part, in one word, NO. I never chose to leave my loved ones to go into strange lands and possibly be killed by ruthless barbarians. You see, I had the choice and my choice was no. In YOUR mind does this make me less of a man and an American? Please answer honestly on this one because I really want to know. I'm going to tell you this once, or twice or maybe a hundred times HarryJ. I applaud and respect you and any other that has taken the steps you did for this country. That includes military and police personnel. Let's just get that straight here and now. This does not mean I agree with your views. Now, can I tell you this? A very good friend of mine is an Army recruiter. A job I certainly would NOT want. It's not like it was 26 years ago for sure. I graduated in 1980 and many of the "losers" joined the armed forces. It was much easier to get in then. Now, I will add that most of them came back much better people because of it. There are men and women these days that WANT to join the armed forces but the rules are tougher so they don't get in. Believe me, I hear it all the time. Is this a bad thing? I think not. We need people that are capable, willing and committed to the cause. I obviously read your posts and as Americans we are free to express ourselves. Here's what I get from yours. 1) You are nothing unless you've "served". So my tax dollars that helped pay for your service should be given back to me? 2) Other countries do worse things. So we should stoop to that level and it will make it all better? OR will they just step up their antics and who knows how reliable the "information" we garner is worth? 3) This is a big one. You, in my eyes, would love to see conscription. A huge military - or military state. We have more troops we stoop to their level we win. Does that really happen? History has shown us it doesn't. Enough of that. Would I pour a lttle water down your nose anywhere anytime? YES I would. Would I perform an actual waterboarding on you? Nope, I'm not qualified to do so nor would I want to torture you. Talking tough here. NOW can you answer the question have you been waterboarded? Unless I missed it somewhere you have NEVER answered this question. You just keep playing it off. Related to a Cheney?
Yes I agree totally. Many do not really see what he has done. Three large companies alone ate our Treasury dry. All those companies should have been put through bankruptcy proceedings ( Chapter 11 ) . Capitalism is by design , the strong will survive. If healthcare is touched in the same way with only an ideological approach you had better start learning how to take better care of your self. The idealog in the White House cares little for Capitalism, he is a Soclialist. If you voted because you wanted change , you got it. It is up to the young voters to bring the country back to the roots of The Constitution. Government is bland and unattractive, but very fragile. You can see what a majority of a Congress and a president of the same mind can do. Set a country on a road to hell ! You have rock stars on MTV not in the White House. The real pain is to watch it being shoved in your face. " Reafrirm States Rights" take away their money then power. Pep www.usdebtclock.org
I would imagine it's the far left radicals/anarchists that should be the most fearful...they tend to be the most violent & angry.
I support Obama and I voted for him. I will likely vote for him in 2011. But I do agree that he is the biggest threat to the status quo in this nation. The nation will never be the same again, but remember he did promise change.
Dan We will not see the results and ramifications of the O's actions for many years to come. I hope it works, I sincerely do. Something has to be fixed, it's just so many of us see " fixed " as a different thing. Personally, the invasion into private industry has me worried. I am an anti government intervention type, so many look to the government for solutions. Who is right? Time will tell. What ever the result, I hope we dont lose what it took 200+ years to gain.
I think that Obama has a really profound understanding and appreciation for the constitution, he taught constitutional law for many years. As for intervention in the banks and car makers, it makes me nervous also, that Geitner was just the wrong guy for that job (to much of an insider).
Do American Police officers not retire early on medical grounds? I have to ask this as Harry's comments did seem rather harsh.
I knew a guy who caught a bullet in the kidney on duty. He was (for the most part) physically ok but he got a medical type of pension for it.
Obama's collection of "fishy" emails may be one more step along the line in identifying those who don't agree with his policies, errr I mean "right wing terrorists"
