I read recently that Homeland Security are concerned about terrorism from right wing American extremists (the McVeigh types). I know that we have a lot of right wing types posting here and I was curious if you are concerned that you may be on some sort of list? The type of things they are looking for: former military, gun rights advocate, anti-abortion, right wing republican or libertarian.
Hell I would imagine that most of us are on some list or another and to be honest that dont realy bother me. Now as for right wing extreemist terrorist acts that is not that far fetched. I woudnt go and call the guys who post here right wing extrimists, some of them are right wing for sure even me for that matter LOL (Big suprise to some I know) but most I believe have a belief in the Democratic process (As I do) Over here at the moment there are expectations that the Far right Nationalist party BNP might do well in the upcoming european elections due to the latest scandels eminating from Westminster, I hope it proves to be unfounded but often at times like these with ecoomies in crisis etc the extrimists from all sides do tend to benifit.
If you are posting here, I bet you are on a list, Danr. Doesn't matter if you are a left wing nut job, a right wing nut job or something in between. Look how many keywords probably pop up on a site like this.
This may be one thing that the majority, if not all of us here, have in common. Being on a "list". Who's on what "list" and why is a totally different story. That's what we get for voicing our opinions.
Brings to mind what Paul Newman said about being on Nixons enemies list. ''I'm dissapointed that I'm so low on the list.''.
One of the reasons September 11th happened were the restrictions that were in place regarding Who and how the FBI and CIA could operate. I'm not condoning torture, however dripping water on someone or playing loud music does not equate to torture in my opinion. If we continue to place restrictions on our Defense and Intel agencies we are in essence tying one hand behind their back.
Scary isn't it? I think this should immediately dissolve any notions that our freedoms and liberty would be any better protected under this administration than the last. Jackboots apparently come in one size fits all. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
I'm sure that those two agencys do enough illegal stuff on thier own without getting carte blanche from congress. Gestapo tactics arent the way to go.
Ok lets begin by putting surveillance cameras throughout your living quarters. Further your post has a right wing tone, I think you should be subject to torture to ascertain your connection to right wing terror groups.
LOL. I meet some the criteria, 26 yrs military, gun owner. However as much I vale my constitutional rights, (that many people have lost their lives for) I would be willing to give some of them up for security reasons; If thats putting a camera on me so be it. There are cameras all over the highways and stores anyway. In todays day and age its pretty hard not to be recorded by a camera at some point and time during the day. I have no problem with the patriot act or anything else related to it. And as far as torture goes; loud music or water poured on someone just doesn't meet the definition of torture to me. Some of the terror suspects are some real bad people. How do you suggest they be Interrogated? By watching the teletubbies perhaps?
Which ones would you be willing to give up? The right to bear arms? Freedom of religion? And for how long? With a made up title like ''The war on terror" basic liberties could be suspended forever and be reminisced about like five cent soda pop and telegrams. And how do you know that some of the terrorist suspects are real bad people? The US government doesnt know that. If they did, they wouldve been tried already. And you only are aware of the waterboarding. A good tactic to divert your attention from the beating of the testes with a billy club. Or getting pummeled with a telephone book. (It doesnt leave marks).
Harryj, I applaud you for your 26 years to this country. I mean that sincerely man. NOW, can I pour some water down your nose? I started that thread and you keep going back to it sir. Have you been waterboarded and if not would you volunteer for it? It's easy to talk tough. I have never been in the military but in your 26 years did this happen to you? If so I applaud you for it. If not I'd like to know why, in your infinite wisdom, it's just water down the nose. Seems some pretty tough people refer to it as torture. Who started waterboarding and how did we as a nation react to it when WE weren't using it? Was it torture?

(It doesnt leave marks). I would give up any right. If that takes pouring water down my nose so be it. I'll refrain from the do you know. I pretty sure I have had more training on torture than you. You more than likley have sat in your living room watching the news and surfing the internet watching the world go by, working at the office ect. I have lived it my friend. Have you ever been in any foreign country ever? Have you ever served in the Armed Forces?
Actually to tell the truth. I have been withholding what I do and did for a living for a long time. I did my military duty.(Now you know). I also was a NY policeman for 16 years. Ive seen torture tactics that would have you screaming you were Rasputin. Ive seen suspects who had the snot beat out of them, only to find out he was the wrong guy. To my shame, I never reported the crap Ive seen. You hide behind the flag. I stand in front of it. I would never willingly give up any rights that so many people have died for so that I could feel safe. Anyone who would eschew certains feedoms for a more comfortable life has no business calling themselves an American.
Yes, its so easy to talk the talk. But can you walk the walk? Have you been there? Just a few questions here. 1. Have you had to leave your Families for an extended period? 2. Have you had to deal with the threat of terrorism on a daily basis, yes on a daily basis. Its so easy to be the terrorism expert from your couch watching the news.
What are you talking about? So you were in the military. Lots of people were. And most dont carry on about it. What you are talking about is your doing. that is what you chose. Missing birthdays and such couldve been prevented. You just didnt have to re-up. Its apparent you cannot adjust to civilian life bud. Have I been where?
Re my previouse post Yes I have also lost pals to terrorist bombs, recently thought I had lost a good friend in Afghanistan, thankfully he only lost the hearing in one ear and not his life.
I'm not giving you a biography. What capacity? In what capacity were you in law enforcement? I never said your thoughts make you judge jury and executioner. I said that about myself. Oh. And you can thank those lousy stinking no good liberals for the internet on which you can voice your thoughts and opinions. I have been to Eygpt, Morocco, and Jordan for a few months. Great hashish in Morocco. Great hasish in Morocco? That explains it all.
