In this day and age, we can no longer look at the media as reporters, but " opinionators ". Long gone are the days that the media scrutinized and reported, rather no, they voice opinions and try to sway. Being intellectually honest here, I do recognise bias in every minute of every newscast and radio segment. Those who don't are wearing blinders and don;t want to hear the news but an opinion. We in turn, listen to those opinions that we agree with, it is less painfull and less disturbing. Point blank. I am a conservative. I cannot stomach the Republicans or the Democrats. One thing is apparent and that is our culture is changing. The America we grew up in will not be the America our grandchildren grow up in. But, ask ourselves, is this progress or demise? Let the debate begin, and as always, Clembo you raise a provacative point, to those who wish to engage. You are very good at that, even tho politcially we disagree, I have learned from your threads and opinions. Staunch in my ways, I refuse to change and bend with the times. Perhaps even a federalist, I am very to see what has become of our country with the last two administrations dead set on tearing down our constitution and individual rights.... Back to topic. That vid seemes an attack on fox news, so common these days, but, ask yourself, why is fox the #1 rated network on cable? I do admit to only watching the 1st 4 minutes.
Well put Jack and honestly you'd be surprised at how many times I am in some sort of agreement with you. Is the vid an attack on Fox news? Certainly does seem that way and NOT the reason I posted it for those that may get that idea. I posted it so we could look at what OTHERS think of us and it so happens Fox did take a beating. It IS the #1 rated network on cable. Point is people other than Americans have opinions about us and our media. This is but one example. People worldwide have opinions of us, our government, our media and the list goes on. More "information" is available to these people every day yet we, as Americans, tend to ignore it. It harkens me back to a day some 25 years ago when I told my dad that Americans were basically ignorant. He somewhat blew a gasket on that statement believe me. I had to explain that ignorant did NOT mean stupid. We were ignorant of what happened and what was thought in other nations/cultures. I honestly don't think he ever DID get it and he's been gone for years now. I honestly think that most Americans still don't get it. The world's getting smaller every day and it behooves us to "read the small print".
All of the US TV media is biased infotainment. There really isn't much real news out there. Openly biased reporting is the norm. The only difference is what side they are on. I am not sure the print media is much better. Time has been my bathroom magazine for about 5 or 6 years, I guess. In the Bush years, they criticized him heavily and I thought that was good. You get more real information that way. It was sometimes over the top but at least it was obvious it wasn't a white house mouth piece and you got to read more than the party line. Now, Time is exactly a white house mouth piece. Most of the articles read like the author is auditioning for the job of white house press secretary and some of them read like the author already has the job. Since all media seems openly biased these days, I would rather read one that is biased against whatever party is in power that one that is a cheerleader or apologist for the current regime. If I watched TV news, I would pay a lot more attention to Fox these days than CNN or MSNBC and that would switch back when a Republican comes back into power. Opposition news is less dangerous to democracy than news that is essentially an arm of the party in power. For the previous 8 years Fox was indeed Pravda but that has changed. There are multiple Pravdas now that a Democrat is in power and Fox is really the only opposition media out there.
That was great. It wasnt only Fox. They lambasted other networks. But what a hambone that Beck is. Who would really fall for any of that?
It's becoming a lot like selecting a church, isn't it. You find the message that appeals to you & that's the one you support. Church membership, show ratings, etc...just shows which one is more popular with the people.
