I dont suppose many Americans will fully understand this , one really needs to have resided in the UK for a length of time to realise how petty this is.
He is alledgedly been overheard speaking to another soldier and the term "paki" was used. The actual quote was "our paki chum".

The Pakistanis are demanding apologies and accusing the Royal family of being racist.
Most British people are saying this is England and if you dont like it theres a flight out every hour.

I grew up with these people and always found them hard working and honest , the new generation seems set on making Britain a muslim state, changing laws to suit and indeed asking for Islamic laws to apply to them.

The term paki has never to my knowledge been hateful as the media present it.Everybody refered to the local corner store as the pakis , its been that way for at least 30 years i can swear to.
Its exactly like calling an American a Yank , or a British person a Brit , theres nothing hateful about it.
A Glaswegian is a weegie , a person from Newcastle is a Geordie , liverpudlian is a Scouser and so on , every area has its nickname , its one more instance of what is wrong with these people.Playing the race card to the max.
I wish to God the British would get off thier knees and quit pandering to these types. Its Great Britain for crying out loud , is this what our forefathers fought and died for? For this PC generation to hand these people new laws and rights that an englishman never has,its sickening.

I wouldnt apologise id have the complainer on the next boat back to pakistan , give the ******* something to whine about.

Please excuse the rant but i love my country and am sick at heart to see whats happening, its nothing new, ive long said the Mossies (muslims) will run that country soon, its no joke.

We all need to get over it and stop fighting. It is justified that they are insulted. I would be too. They deserve an apology. That is just offensive.

Savour this reply Isaiah , itll be the last youll ever see from me.I would like to point out you changed your post from theres nothing wrong with it and call them Pakis to your present offended post.
I firmly believe you are mentally ill , i dont believe in mocking the afflicted and more pity you than anything else.

Prince Harry is no different than most any other fool his age. He has a foul mouth, says what he wants etc. I am nonplussed by his behaviour, I rather believe his grandfather, the Prince Philip OTOH should be shut up. That latter fool has never grown up. I do believe that Harry has matured, especially since being in the military.

Besides, I am right proud of Harry for serving his country proud, asking to go into combat and serve like any other soldiers.

I believe your right about Prince Phillip , he isnt as much racist as just plain ignorant.
Harry i think will be the one to shine from the whole family , as much as i respect the Queen i hold little regard for the others.

Although I don't excuse the behavior, those taking offense MUST take into consideration the context in which Harry spoke. A military community. I'm working with US Marines, and some of the things I've heard colonels say and do would get them thrown out, at best, of nice places in the civilian world. And those are colonels. Imagine what the privates and lance corporals are saying.

I had never heard 'Paki' before but was surprised it was a derogatory term. How about Brit and Aussie? Yank? Heard all 3 of those when I was stationed in a coalition area.

Although I don't support racism or "negative" stereotyping these whiners do get out of hand.

Oooh... that offends me. Get over it. Call me a Yank all you want I'll call you an Aussie, a Brit a Canuck and the list goes on. No harm meant and the majority don't take it that way.

Sure, certain words are derogatory and meant to be that way. I heard the N word today several times because I work with some pretty blatant racists.
The derogatory tems are all well known and meant to be that way.

I'm not from the UK but somehow feel Paki is not meant in a bad way. I could be wrong.

Bottom line is if you're that "touchy feely" stay in your house and don't talk to anyone. Might get your feelings hurt.

I was in the Navy from '78 to 82'. Way before the word terrorist was thrown around so much. I heard the word raghead many times then. Camel jockey was another. it is offensive. But unless youve been to Egypt, Iran, Iraq, or Saudi Arabia and seen some of these guys look at or treat you. You cant put the blame on the name caller. And ''sand n word is much worse. Pake doesnt sound very offensive to me. Like clembo I think its akin to Aussie or Yank. Limey, and mick are offensive tho.

The term 'Hadji' has replaced 'Raghead' and the others these days. And yes, it is derogatory, or at least dismissive, and frowned upon, but you still hear it.

I always thought it was kind of odd because I guess it is derived from Johnny Quest but that Hadji was Indian. Guess it is the turban thing rahter than the actual ethnicity.

All you have to do is cast your mind back to bootcamp , how they speak to people.I arrived at Orlando still buzzed from free beers on the flight from scotland and straight on an ominously grey bus to boot camp.
Nobody could understand half of what i was saying , did it piss off and annoy people ? yeah it did
Did i feel oppressed and sorry for myself..not really..i knew what i was saying and they didnt , so i could cuss them out all day and they just look baffled..i wasnt the only one thankfully..but thats what the military is all about , taking the boy and making the man..i recommend it very highly.
I found mostly people from Alabama could understand me , and Pennsylvanians , i looked into history as i got older and i can now see why.

As for my signature , it isnt a wind up , i read that and it summed up how i feel about my new life here in the USA.

Thats exactly what it is , but apparantly in the politically correct world a Muslim can demand an apology in a foreign country. From the Royal family no less.
Id have his butt on the next boat to pakistan so fast it aint funny

What I find highly amusing is that the squadie in question never complained and the incident happend three years ago  Hell when I was in the Army I was called a lot worse than that by our Sarg LOL Even then the Army was trying to be politicaly correct, on our 1st ever parade I can clearly remember him saying to us that he was no longer aloud to use abusive language on recruits so he started and ended every sentance with a please and thank you with a number of expletives in between LOL
Most of us were from working class backgrounds and could swear just as well as them and did so, I was called Taffy been the only Welsh recruit in our section did I get upset no of course not no harm was meant by it and as Jake says we had a Geordie and a Scouse with us we also had a Scot who was simply known as MSB for short. For those of you who cant work it out LOL Mad Scottish ******* :D

The first time I actually heard the term was in a mass briefing where part of what they covered was things not to do and what to expect...things like don't photograph, don't enter mosques, no alcohol, don't use derogatory terms, men hold hands, etc.

I don't know about back in your day, but, in this day and age, you get all sorts of cultural awareness training, diversity training, sexual assault response training, suicide and violence prevention training and on and on. A lot of it is yearly. Some of it is 'just in time' training. And you always get a briefing either before you leave for or after you get to a foreign country.

That wasn't the last time I heard it, though, although I didn't hear it all the time. Mostly I heard it used by the Army folks who went out and about off base or guarded the gates. Sometimes by TCN guards who guarded the LNs and TCNs. Other than busted and bleeding locals laying in beds or interpreters who helped the docs translate, I didn't encounter locals a lot. My interaction with the locals and how they acted towards me in that setting was probably a lot different than the guys I mentioned above.

I have no idea. I am not even sure what a 'limey' is without looking it up. I have enough Irish blood to know what a 'mick' is though. And I just learned what they call Pakistanis in the UK yesterday.
