When I heard that they were giving it to Kennedy's daughter I thought that was kind of sad, they were giving it to someone just because of their family relations. Then, I remembered who was in the seat before so I just figure that's the way they do business there in NY.

Welcome to Illinois politics. Chicago had mayor Daley for 2 decades. Now his son has been mayor/ruler for 2 decades. Todd Stroger retires. Who's the most qualified for his job? Oh, his son, of course. Mike Madigan for speaker of the house. Lisa Madigan for attorney general? Sure, why not?

Emil Jones Jr. is retiring from his Senate majority spot. Gee, who should replace him...??? Oh, that's right!!

"Democratic Party officials on the Far South Side Thursday evening handed the state senate seat that Emil Jones Jr. has held for 23 years to his son, Emil Jones III."

We don't worry about who's qualified. We don't have the luxury anyway. They just take the power. Preferably legally, but illegally if necessary.

I've heard that people are leaving this state in droves.

Detroit politics WAS very much the same.

Detroit had a great mayor, tho as crooked a hell, Coleman "Soulman " Young from 1974-1993. He did good things for Detroit, and was also a Tuskagee Airman during WWII.

Since his leaving office and his passing, Detroit cannot keep the politicians out of jail.

Note, the Soulman thing is not racist, thats what us Detroiters called him affectionatly, even the news media. There were scandals always, landfills and waste hauling payoffs, unions, the Detroit Mob and Jimmy Hoffa, he was mixed up with all of it, but never got into real trouble. He was a good mayor tho, I miss him.

He tried forever to get Detroit a " casino city " and missed out on it's coming to be.
