In Bush's next news conference in Kabul Afghanistan everybody had to remove their shoes prior to entering the conference room. The way things are going, the rest of Bush's presidency will see people removing their shoes in his presence. Just today there was a protest in front of the Whitehouse with protesters throwing shoes at the Whitehouse.

A stupid, but mostly harmless, venting of pent up passions.

Throwing shoes at the white house isn't a big deal. Whipping one at someone's head as hard as you can...that's a different story. Protest vs assault.

I saw that the show thrower is apologizing and asking for a pardon. lol Apparently, it is a little worse than simple assault. They have some law against insulting a world leader or some such.

Yes. It is some sort of disrespect to show someone the sole of your shoe. Like a thumbing of the nose, I guess. And those retards are big on symbols and such.

    Guys,

Tossing a shoe at someone is a pretty low blow over there. The sole of the shoe touches dirt so basically the person throwing it at you is saying you're lower than dirt.

Remember when Sadaam's statue fell? Remember people beating it with shoes?
Well, that's how they felt about Sadaam.

With less than a month left Bush may make jokes about it but it does say a LOT about how some feel about him in Iraq.

And some Cubans would still defend Castro...some Germans probably didn't like to see US GI's in Berlin in 1945. To re-state the point again: At least the guy has the freedom to do it now.

He isnt going to get away with it. He is going to be punished. So how does he have the freedom to do it? Certainly before our crusade he was able to do it too. Yea he probably wouldve been killed for it. But in my opinion he should be killed for it now. either way he really isnt free to do it. you can rob a bank. That doesnt give you freedom to do it.

There is a big difference between a totalitarian dictatorship and a country governed by a set of laws. Under Saddam, if he had even attempted this act, he would have been killed on the spot & chances are, his family would have been made to suffer. What happens to him now? He gets locked up & faces the criminal system. See the difference?

I dont think he wouldve been killed on the spot. C'mon. Right in front of Bush? I said he wouldve probably been killed for it in the 1st place. And so what. Now this guy finds his balls and throws a shoe(Who throws a shoe?)because the consequences arent so dire A wuss if you ask me. Throw the shoe when you know theres a chance to get beheaded. THATS FREEDOM. And by the way; the school system in Cuba is top notch. Go figure.

Curiously I talked to a lady just yesterday in the grocery store that remembers GI's entering Berlin after the period of Soviet occupation - and feeling delivered finally. German civilians did NOT have an easy time in Berlin or anywhere under Soviet occupation, especially women.

With regards this guy, was he attempting to assassinate Bush or insult him?

In Arab opinion he was attempting the ultimate insult which was to throw his shoes at him - and he succeeded in that venture - and insulted Bush. Did he harm Bush? No. If anything he made Bush look somewhat better in Western opinion, because despite the fact that many believe him an idiot - he could at least dodge the shoe attack.

For that, Bush should step up and plead for mercy for the guy. By that he would demonstrate far greater magnanimity and respect for our Western values.
