...but it sounds like he wants to go REALLY REALLY deep in debt. I know that the guy is very smart, I hope that he knows what he is doing.

He is doing everything he promised NOT to do...he is doing everything he wrongly accused the Republicans of doing.

I am pretty sure that $700 billion bailout was partially to hide the real amount of money that was going to be put out there. It is in the trillions so far. We put another 600 billion out there today and the Citi stuff yesterday was a couple hundred billion. The the Freddie and Fannie were in the hundreds of billions. I wonder at what point our bailout will exceed our GDP?

    - He criticized the Bush Tax Cuts & promised to get rid of them but now has indicated they will continue until 2011 (2010?)
    - He criticized our involvment in the war in Iraq but has appointed the Clintons as Sec of State...Hillary was (and I guess still is) an early, vocal advocate for the war.
    - He criticized the "old Washington" but has brought back the Clintons and their soap opera-like inner circle

    Should I continue?

Hopefully you are aware that soup kitchens etc. are on the horizon soon. Unfortunate, scary, and true.

What's the old saying... "Expect the best but prepare for the worst"??

Right now I think we are all bracing for the worst.

I am sure those tax cuts will go away or be replaced. 2010 I believe is the date. Considering he takes office in 2009 (the tax year already being started), that is not too surprising even if we weren't in the middle of an economic crisis.

I have seen nothing that says we will not be out of Iraq. In fact, I would say the current administration accepting the Iraqi terms on firm dates is probably directly related to who won the election. And, I don't think Sec State gets to make that kind of decision. lol

The last one is a little disappointing but not surprising although I am sure not all his appointments are from previous administrations.

On the original topic (and not just general bama bashing):

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/25/transition.wrap/index.html

President-elect Barack Obama pledged Tuesday to go through the federal budget "page by page, line by line" to eliminate excessive spending and get the economy back on track.

"If we are going to make the investments we need, we also have to be willing to shed the spending that we don't need," Obama said at a news conference in Chicago, Illinois.

"In these challenging times, when we're facing both rising deficits and a sinking economy, budget reform is not an option. It's a necessity," he said.

Sounds more conservative than the current administration...although that would not be hard to be. lol

Expire, end. Either way the tax cuts will be gone.

I don't think the Sec Def gets to make that decision either and, I suspect if either can't follow the President's orders, they will be goners.

    You surprise me.

Obama was adament he would eliminate the Bush tax cuts, not reconsider them, not allow them to merely expite but ELIMINATE THEM. It's not the same thing.

When he surrounds himself with Senior advisors (and when it comes to war they don't get much more Sr than Sec's of Defense & State) that are advocates of our presence in Iraq you just gotta wonder what Obama is thinking.

How can you propose TRILLIONS in new spending and still claim to be fiscally restrained?

Not bashing, merely pointing out that Obama is backing up from 2 of his primary campaign promises already & expressing frustration that he gets a pass on it.

Gone is gone. In 4 years, if that is the biggest flip one can lay on a politician, there would be dancing in the streets.

I would guess he is thinking they have the experience for the jobs and will do what he says. I doubt Gates will stay long anyway but I think it is a good idea not to boot him on day one.

We put ourselves on the hook for about a trillion more dollars in the last 2 days.

And I do like your avatar icon. Pretty funny but I tend to wait until someone is elected and has done something before I talk about impeaching him. lol

We did not, the government hooked us for a trillion more dollars.

    Amen

...and of the old Clinton cronies, Robert Reich, runs Citicorp and guess who trained under Reich? No other than Obama's newest appointees Geithner & Summers. Hmmmmm......

If the American people had their say in what was going on, banks would not get bailed out, GM, Ford, and Chrysler would not get bailed out. And finally all these corporate and government crooks would get lynched.

If Obama pulls this economy out of the fire he deserves the support of even the most extreme Republican.

I don't consider myself the extremest of conservatives but he has my support already...at least until he is sworn in and does something. Then I will re-evaluate. ;)
