I don't mind getting bashed for holding Conservative and Christian beliefs in fact I find humor in hearing Conservatives called close-minded, evil, etc or people of faith called zealots and such. I stumbled across some info you may find interesting: -Conservatives give 30% more to charity than Liberals even though the average Liberal household makes 6% more. -Those who favor re-distribution of wealth give 75% less to charity -Liberals view charity as individual gratification & relate it to stuff- cars, electronics, etc -People of Faith view charity as helping your neighbor & give 4x more to charity than secularists do -Conservatives give 45% more blood than Liberals -Liberals advocate compassion through government policy, expecting the other guy to carry the burden whereas Conservatives practice individual acts of compassion -Fact from the '04 election: Al Gore gave $350 to charity (or .002% of his income), the evil Dick Cheney gave $7 MILLION. Similar stats were released this year concerning how little Obama or Biden gave. I also heard on NPR yesterday that, based on exit polling, the majority of Obama voters (nearly 70%) agreed with Conservative policy stances over the Liberal viewpoints with an underlying theme that "spreading the wealth" was only acceptable if you were on the receiving line, not the giving line. Now I can't wait to see some of the comments & spin from you Libs...it helps me understand why the concept of core values & beliefs is so threatening to some of you.
I'd like to know who compiled those stats? Sure sounds like a right-wing organization. What I see is the so called Liberals giving of their time and lives, to fight injustice and the Conservsatives hold up signs against them. I guess that's their way of giving . . . that is . . . giving us their opinion. Ribbit
As time goes on, I find humor in it as well. It's hilarious how the term "closed minded" gets thrown around from those who actually do have a closed mind. I will defend Obama here though. After the top got blown off of his dealings with his good buddy Tony Rezko and after the "surprise and disgust" set in after Obama "found out about the REAL Rezko", he promptly gave up at least 80k (or supposedly equivalent to what Rezko had donated to the campaign) to charity. How thoughtful? Of course that was another year. If no scandal has surfaced yet this year, than I would anticipate donations would be down.
Al Gore's monthly utility bill at his (primary) mansion is 5x that amount. Cut the guy some slack! He puts his pants on one leg at a time. He has a budget just like the rest of us.
As expected, the stats from above are probably ALL WRONG! Gore did not give $350 to charity in 2004, it was 1997 and since then, he has given a lot! I'm sure that if each and every statement above is checked, they will be proven to be incorrect and compiled by a right-wing idiot! Pathetic! Ribbit Ps: In 1992, aided by the royalties of Gore's book, "Earth In The Balance," he and his wife donated $52,558 to charitable organizations.
Dr. Brooks, a professor of public administration at Syracuse's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, in his book, Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservativism (Basic Books, 2006)
Let's see how the Conservatives stack up: http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2006/04/kirsch_cheney_t.html "It appears that the VP is a major beneficiary of the Hurricane Katrina tax relief act. In particular, he claimed $6.8 million of charitable deductions, which is 77% of his AGI -- well in excess of the 50% limitation that would have applied absent the Katrina legislation. The press release indicates that the charitable contribution reflects the amount of net proceeds from an independent administrator's exercise of the VP's Halliburton options -- apparently, the VP had agreed back in 2001 that he would donate the net proceeds from the options to charities once they were exercised. The press release seems to confirm, at least implicitly, the VP's efforts to take advantage of the Katrina legislation -- it mentions that the Cheneys wrote a personal check of $2.3 million to the administrator in December in order to "maximize the charitable gifts in 2005." Admittedly, I don't know anything about the transactions beyond the info in the press release, but my gut reaction is that the personal check was given in order to make sure the independent administrator had sufficient liquid assets to pay all of the promised charitable contributions before the 50% limit returned on 1/1/06. Despite the importance of the Katrina legislation to his tax return, it looks like none of the charitable contributions actually went to Katrina-related charities (the press release lists the 3 charitable recipients, all of which were designated in the original 2001 gift agreement). While there's nothing inappropriate about that from a legal perspective, it does demonstrate how the legislation, which was sold to the public as providing relief to Katrina victims, provided significant tax benefits to the VP (and potentially other wealthy individuals) in situations that have nothing to do with Hurricane Katrina." So that's how they do it? Ribbit
$50,000 for a chair, sure left a lot to help some students with a college education. Just how much did that chair actually cost the University? I also find it interesting it was a state school and not some Ivy League school. Ribbit
Dunno about the rest and don't really care enough to look it up but I do remember that Cheney did give something like $7 million to charity one year. Considering how insane our tax code is, I would not be surprised if he came out better off financially because of it. If you donate a billion dollars and get a billion dollars back in tax credit, did you really donate anything? No, the government is who really gave the money away. You are just promoting socialism with your donation.
How much are the Gores worth? And they donated $52,558 to charity! and $50,000 was to honor his sister. Just think of the irony of that for just a second. That should be all it takes to figure something just does not make sense there.
It was not a sitting chair. But, it is funny what you find when you go searching about stuff... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/campfin/stories/cf101797.htm In the spring of 1994, Gore wrote to Molten president Haney to thank him for a $50,000 donation to help endow a chair in environmental studies at the University of Tennessee to be named after Gore's sister, Nancy Gore Hunger, who died of lung cancer in 1984. "Thanks, Bill!" Gore wrote at the bottom of the letter, typed on vice presidential stationery. "You will never know how much this means to me. You are a great friend." "As you might expect," Knight (Gore's aide and chief fund-raiser) wrote Haney in his own thank-you note, "this is a very personal priority for the vice president. . . . I can assure you that your contribution will never be forgotten." Two days after the March 22 donation, the Department of Energy announced it would expand an existing $1.2 million research contract with Molten to develop technology for hazardous waste disposal by $9 million.
That is Washington Politics to the max! Will Barack put an end to it? Probably not, since the old hand washing scheme has gone on since the beginning of time but I hope he will not be involved personally! Ribbit
Sounds like he's going to try to stay clean with the people he's hiring and surrounding himself with. Apparently each potential new hiree is required to fill out a 60 point questionare filled with personal questions including who they lived with in the last 10 years and mentions the word spouse 34 times. If we could have gotten half the transparency from the chosen one himself, I would've felt much better. But we don't need to be concerned with that, of course!!
While you're at it, don't forget to talk about all the time they've spent volunteering to help military families and providing driving supplies to the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. And lastly, don't foget to use the word LIBERAL somewhere in the post. Ribbit
Biden: Sen. Biden and his wife Jill released a decade of their financial records Friday. The amount they gave to charity during this period never exceeded one-half of 1% of their annual income. The Bidens never gave more than $995 to charity in any of the tax years, and usually gave much less." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122123529865928455.html Palin: But in 2006, they donated $4,880 to charity, and in 2007, they donated $3,325. http://thehill.com/leading-the-news...han-biden-despite-less-income-2008-10-03.html McCain: Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, has released his tax returns for the past two years, including details about the money he donated to charitable causes. In 2006, Mr. McCain said he had $358,414 in total income and donated $64,695, or 18 percent of his total income, to charity. Mrs. McCain has donated the same amount to charity as her husband — a total of $170,162 for each of them — over the past two years, his campaign said. http://philanthropy.com/news/updates/4437/john-mccain-discloses-data-on-his-charity-giving
So why did he drop down to $350 in '97 after giving $50k in '92, huh? What a guy!! While we are at it, isn't Gore the hypocrite who blasted the people for not sacrificing & being more Green while jetting all over the country in his Gulfstream? Wasn't it released that his private residence used more electricty one month than the entire town combined? And didn't his Global Summit on global waming get SNOWED OUT?? Now that's a dandy for you to be looking up to!!
That is ironic! I personally believe Gore was too far to one side but when it comes to the environment, if there is such a thing? We only have one place to call home and once we've destroyed it, what will we do then? I think there's a happy middle somewhere and maybe with Barack, it'll be found but W was too anti-environment and that's worse than Gore! Ribbit
Toad, Back on topic, what is with the liberal contributions? Are you conceding that we may be correct?
