Looks like Washington is in for a new day. Obama is employing the highest ethics standards in his transition: • Federal Lobbyists cannot contribute financially to the transition. • Federal lobbyists are prohibited from any lobbying during their work with the transition. • If someone has lobbied in the last 12 months, they are prohibited from working in the fields of policy on which they lobbied. • If someone becomes a lobbyist after working on the transition, they are prohibited from lobbying the Administration for 12 months on matters on which they worked. • A gift ban that is aggressive in reducing the influence of special interests. Thank God that we finally have an honest person taking over. It is like the dawn is breaking and we are coming out of a dark evil night.
Yeah, it is nice, I guess. Too bad it isn't as good as what he said he would do during the campaign. I figure that will be a common theme thorughout the next 4 years. WASHINGTON - President-elect Barack Obama, who vowed during his campaign that lobbyists "won't find a job in my White House," said through a spokesman yesterday that he would allow lobbyists on his transition team... http://www.boston.com/news/politics/2008/articles/2008/11/12/obama_softens_ban_on_hiring_lobbyists/
What he has done in the past is a much better indicator of things to come than his empty promises. Think Rezko, Frank Raines, Jim Johnson, etc.
Wow! Doesn't take much to impress some people. Just put up a little window dressing. Overall, I've never seen a president elect praised so much by so many in the transitional phase, before he's done much more than discuss the type of dog they're going to get. I'm sorry (and I hate to subjectively break this down) but the statements are absolutely meaningless. Keywords of note are: "During the transition", (why not make it the full 4 years? What difference does it make if you're only delaying the inevitable?) "12 months" Why not 4 years? " A gift ban that is aggressive in "reducing"... Reducing by what 20%, 30%, 40%?? So I take it select gifts will still get through? More vague promises that sound good in a long line of them that people will perceive positively if they want to, in their own little way. To end on a positive note..... Sure, I guess it's better than nothing.
I guess this is what you call HONEST? http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=us&vol=000&invol=03-475 I'm glad those days are over and the Obama camp is showing us we can expect more ethical conduct from our government, than we've seen in a long time. Ribbit
Care to elaborate on just what it would take to impress someone, after 8 years of George W.? I think a Chicken in the White House would be more impressive than him, so were you trying to make a point? Ribbit
How about a President that didn't play a part in the Fannie/Freddie fiasco? How about a President that doesn't have Frank Raines or Jim Johnson among his economic advisors? How about a President who doesn't count Bill Ayers among his circle of friends? What about a President who didn't engage in questionable business transactions with Tony Rezko? How about a President whose first appointment isn't a member of that good old Liberal Chicago power brokers club? ...you know the rest. Wanna defend the Chosen One??
Honest? Sounds like nothing but lip service full of loop holes & nothing concrete. But hey, that is what his whole campaign was about, wasn't it??
Well, you got more than a chicken! You got a corrupt, liberal extremist human being. Wow! You just proved my point with your statement. Anything, no matter how extreme, no matter how inexperienced, no matter how power hungry and deceiving....anything is better than Bush for the simple minded! Yaaay, we win!!! Not!
That is the culture of our government and politics these days. As long as their team wins the election, the world is nirvana and if the other guys wins, it is the innermost circle of hell. Doesn't matter what the guy is, what he has done or what he will do because their guy can do no wrong and the other guy can do no right. It is like rooting for a football team and it doesn't matter that it is the Lions vs the Rams.
LMAO! I don't know why but I just found it hilarious seeing you pose as a concerned, confused Obama supporter that the truth had finally dawned upon. BTW, I can't wait to drag this thread back up to the top in a few years. Now that will be funny. Assuming open discussion forums are still allowed in a few years.
New kind, old kind, same kind, different kind. It doesn't matter as long as he is on the right (or wrong) team. That is why our media has about two to three times as many stories about political tactics and strategy as opposed to actual issues. It's all about how they are playing the game not about what they will do if they win.
And this by the same person who; Promised not to accept public funds before he did. Could not disavow Rev. Wright any more than he could disavow his grandmother - before he did Following the "Bloody Sunday" voting rights demonstration that was commemorated March 4. "There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama," he said, "because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don't tell me I'm not coming home to Selma, Alabama" Obama, tells the crowd at fundraiser , "I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president I actually respect the Constitution." Obama also spoke about his typical white uncle, who was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz. He said the family legend is that, upon returning from war, his uncle spent six months in an attic. - but he has no uncles let alone any Russian uncles. etc. etc. etc.
I guess you are perfect, RLM! Congratulations! However, I am not and neither is Barack and his statement he made was in error, but not like you put it. Barack was referring to his Great Uncle, which he probably grew up calling Uncle, and the Concentration Camp was Ohrdruf, a sub-camp of the Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. So he blundered but you make it sound like he lied. That is just how a right-winged fanatic will twist the WHOLE STORY to make it into what suits them. Ribbit Ps: I called my grandmother, Mom, so when I did, I guess I was lying too.
