Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

By BEN EVANS – 2 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

Obama's comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation's foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps "to renew our diplomacy."

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force.

Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he'll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

    Vess,

Hate to say it man but you give Paranoia a new meaning dude.

If I were you, and thought like you, I'd start stocking up on canned goods, digging a bomb shelter and so on. It worked in the 50s so why not now? Oh yeah, no one ever NEEDED those shelters did they?

    DUCK and COVER!

Clembo, how many more quotes do you need in order to become the slightest bit concerned?? He did say we NEED a civilian security force. Marxists believe there is no longer need for religion once they implement their plans because people will be so happy without it. What did Obama say to a group of rich elitists in San Francisco?? People are "frustrated and they cling to their guns and their religion." Oh yeah, his entire campaign was based on a vague, baseless message of change which allowed each individual person to dream up their own definition of what that's supposed to mean, without any of it having to be true.

Such a stretch. Only paranoia, of course. Afraid a bomb shelter won't do me any good from this threat.

Do you see the difference here? I'm using facts that I'm concerned with. You're comforting yourself with your beliefs and opinions. At this point, nothing he does or tries would surprise me.

I'd say good point but really it isn't. Look how close we came to needing them. People didn't do it out of paranoia.

The government just spent millions to build underground bunkers into mountains for govt officials so they could continue functioning in the event it didn't turn out as planned. They must have been paranoid too?

The video making the rounds is a 20 second cut of a 30 minute speech. If you want to watch the whole speech (and I have), here is it:

I think it is pretty obvious that he is talking about national service and volunteerism to improve things at home and how we can help achieve national security through civilian and diplomatic efforts abroad (opening consulates, the peace corps, etc). I see no context of a national police force in that speech at all. None.

The speech is about 26 minutes long but, for those who don't think it is important enough to watch the whole thing, the part being talked about is between 16:40 and 17:00 into it so you can watch a minute on each side of that time and see better what the context is.

For those who are comparing Obama to Hitler I would like to remind you that on the evening of the 9th and morning of the 10th of November 1939 Krystalnacht took place, for those of you who dont know what that was I sugest you look it up. To accuse the man of even been associated in any way with this sort of event is in my opinion vile. You might not like him that is fair enough but to say he is another Hitler or Stalin!! I am sorry but I find that deplorable. You have no evidence what so ever to remotly conect the two other than your own fear and hatred. Has he proposed deporting any race of people from the USA? has he said he intends to build internment camps? has he hinted that he will remove citizenship from any part of the population of the USA? Hitler/Stalin and there henchmen Murderd Millions in the name of Ideology is this what you are accusing Obama of?

Of course not. There's nothing that says he needs to follow in their footsteps and do everything exactly step by step as they did. He hasn't taken office yet so he hasn't had a chance to implement anything. We will see. It may not be immediate, whatever he wants to change. Maybe he'll give it a few years and lull people into further complacency?

The FACT of the matter is......

The real, honorable patriot, named Dr. Ron Paul, who is all about the Constitution, that people from both sides actually liked and could agree that he was for the people, and that I have total respect for and would actually like to meet, was REJECTED, and RIDICULED. Cast away as a lunatic. Now whether this was caused by the media, or as a result of just plain ignorance by America, doesn't really matter.

The one who was overwhelmingly ACCEPTED is the one the media pushed, that we know nothing about and people fear because of his far left extremist policies and who has a Congressman fearing a possible setup for a dictatorship! Can this be for real? The words fear, unknown, change, are associated with the one I have no respect for and never would want to meet. And that's who we get.

Maybe somebody can be amused by this. I'm not. Ron Paul would never view the American citizens as a threat. Obama does. This is why he's on a crusade to disarm them. Look at his history.

Now that this jerk is in there, at any time I can go from a normal, family man, thinking about the next day at work, contemplating my next coin purchase, or rooting for some player on my fantasy football team to get a win tonight, to being classified as a terrorist and a felon the next day because I own a firearm that these tyrants don't think I should have.

I don't view the current congress as a check or balance. They're all in place now. This is all set up for Obama to do whatever he wants. If they don't do what he wants, nothing can prevent him from having them all jailed. I could actually see people agreeing with this action and being amused with it to be quite honest. The fairness doctrine should be firmly in place by then so we won't get to hear an opposing view point. It's all set up nicely now.

All we can do is keep our fingers crossed that he actually wants to only serve as a president and not do more damage to the Constitution. I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, by the time there's evidence it's likely too late, wouldn't you say? The fact that people are so willingly desperate to put in somebody like Obama, rules nothing out for our future.

You call it paranoia? I think you need to get your head out of the sand.

It was CraigA who first compared Obama to Hitler here. I don't think Obama is going to kill anyone but there are some similar strategies at play. Hitler vilified the Jews, Obama has vilified the wealthy (create a common enemy)...both demanded servitude to the state...both were heavy on symbolism...

Dude, you are so paranoid. Hitler had the army too. And I am pretty sure those in command are not Obama lovers.

A CNN survey has shown that 64 per cent have a positive view of what President-elect Obama has done since the election and that 75 per cent believe he will do a very good or fairly good job as president.

You guys better run for the hills. Is Kaczynski's cabin still in place?

Hitler's generals certainly weren't Hitler lovers....by the way, you were the first to make the Hitler/Obama comparison, my friend.

What has he done since the election except start to back off his pledges of change?
"Fairly good" isn't good enough for me. You? Wonder what the breakdown was between those that felt he would do very good as opposed to those who thought he would simply do fairly good?

LMAO!!!! A CNN survey said that!!!??? No kidding?!

To show the idiocy of that survey, what has he had a chance to do besides getting briefed about security and acquainted with the White house!??! How would any of the sheep know what kind of job he's going to do? It's the same morons that voted for him! Of course they're still going to 'believe' it. But we haven't even given him a chance to do anything. That's the hilarious part.

CNN is so desperate to portray him in a good light that they put out a stupid survey like this already. Absolutely hysterical. Thanks.

No different from those that are vilifying him before he has had a chance to do anything, at least to me. But, I am sure that is a horse, or maybe sheep, of a different color to you.

Is "fairly good" good enough to you? Will "fairly good" accomplish anything?
Sounds like "above my paygrade-speak" to me.
