Obama made a lot of promises in order to get elected (a new kind of candidate, right?) but immediately started to temper expectations in his acceptance speech by stating we may not see results in the first year or even the first term (can someone please point out that he hasn't been elected to the second term yet). So, my question is this: Which promises do you think he means to keep & which ones were merely made to get appointed?
By "promises" I assume that you want some kind of specific included. i.e., "I promise to raise taxes" - he will keep. "I promise to raise taxes for only the top 5%" - he won't keep. With the specifics, it will be dumb luck if he keeps 2. There has to be at least one where he has taken so many sides that something has to be right in the end. BTW, were this question about McCain, I would give you virtually the same answer.
Well lets see 21 months back when he sarted his run the Economy was not a real issue, 12 months ago it wasnt, 2 months ago it became one and now it is the most important thing on his agenda, tell me what you would rather he tackles first before the economy? any issues that are more important than getting your country back on a stable finacial footing? Please enlighten us
So first and foremost, he says "He's going to tackle the economy." Alright. That's a good start. He's stated it. What's next? What can he possibly DO? As in action! This isn't meant just as an attack but a general question. About the only way you're going to get companies to stop sending jobs overseas is at gun point! If it's profitable, they're going to do it. Now you may say, he'll just impose some restrictions and put an end to it. Well, we'll see if it's that easy. I'd say most of that crap isn't coming back. The auto industry is on life support. Without government bailouts, they'd be going under right now. They got 25 billion under the table while the main bailout was happening. Now they need more. This is just to be able to keep going! Can this be turned around by anyone? There's a lot of businesses and factories that branch out from the auto industry. My dad works at one of them. If they go under, which I believe they will, hold on! We haven't seen anything yet. Yahoo says Circuit City is filing for bankruptcy today. DHL is cutting 9500 jobs. Ford is cutting 10% of their work force. The problem just compounds and compounds. These companies don't care who the president is. All that matters is the bottom line. I don't see how Obama can make a damn bit of difference. They've already been printing money and handing it out at max capacity. That's their only solution. To top it off, these large companies are the ones Obama wants to tax to fix everything because in his words, they can afford it! Which in turn, they will cut more jobs in order to try to remain profitable. We knew this was coming. There's been talk for years about how we can't compete with the low cost of doing business overseas. We've talked about it for years that you just can't keep going on with so little manufacturing happening here anymore. You can't try to make things work with a service society and expect growth to perpetually continue forever! We knew it would go stagnant at some point because it had to. Well, we're there! There's hardly any factories for the labor force to go to anymore. Many are packed with illegals who are the only ones willing to do the work. Which is fine. Most people don't want their kid to have to work there. Just realize there are only so many service jobs the economy can sustain. If you ask somebody what field they think is best for their kid to go into, 9 out of 10 people will tell you the medical field. Everybody wants to be a doctor, a nurse, a pharmacist. Or, people want to get a government job, or be a lawyer. Something high paying. The problem is, these jobs are high paying but DO NOT PRODUCE A PHYSICAL PRODUCT. So they suck (large amounts of) money from within our own economy. Money that has to come from somewhere! It's not coming in from overseas! It's mainly being 'created' in vast amounts by the Federal Reserve and being pumped into the economy in various ways. This dilemma is beyond Obama's ability IMO. And when people don't see results in the next 2-3 years, Bush will be all but forgotten and people will be wondering why their saviour didn't have a magic wand after all.
So he gets a pass because things have changed? I can assure you of one thing: things change. Shouldn't the savior be able to handle multiple issues on multiple fronts? Maybe that's above his paygrade, huh?
Ves that has to be the most coherant post you have ever made It actualy made a lot of sence for once, are you ill by any chance LOL My God it must be me I have today agreed with You and David!!!!
I thought everyone complained during the campaign because he didn;t say what he was going to do and he was vague.
Like all politicians, I figure he will try to get most of the things done that he has said he wants done and that he will succeed in some and not succeed in others. The B.O.M.B. (Bush/Obama/McCain Bailout) is going to make it difficult for anyone to do a lot of things.
I'm sure there will be some ''promises'' they he will press for and some that wont be implemented. Name a politician who kept all of thier promises.
Oh! My God! You actually said something I agree with except you can delete the word "all" from it and substitute "a few".
