Colin Powell voting for Obama

At least that's what he told Tom Brokaw.



Certainly and interesting interview. He touches on a lot of points.

I have a lot of respect for General Powell and still do even though we are not going to be voting for the same people.

 

Colin Powell is looking for another high level cabinet position and hedging his bets just in case Obama wins. Nothing new.

I used to have a lot of respect for Powell, but lately he has been a disappointment.

 

So even Republicans are going over to him in public now That is a suprise.

 

Powell is fairly independent. Kinda socially liberal in some areas but a moderate conservative in other areas. Neither of which describes the current Republican party.

Having been National Security Advisor under Regan and Secretary of State under this President, it will be interesting to see if he has an official position in Obama's administration. He is around 70 now but doesn't seem to have aged much since his last appointment. Doesn;t seem to look or act much different than 10 years ago to tell the truth. I think Obama would be a fool not to utilize him in some fashion if Powell is willing.

 

Which is why I cannot reason why most politicians tow the line and vote for their party. I wish more people were like Mainers, and some Alaskans, tend to go for independent candidates that don't need a freaking party platform to tell them how to think.

I am socially liberal in some areas, believe in free education so can make better taxpayers, but believe in fiscal conservatism otherwise. Labelling me with any of these party fruits would be rather impossible.

 

What a suprise! Actually, I havent read, seen or heard about his life lately. So why is he a disappointment to you?

 

Obviously I am disappointed in Gen Powell for siding with Obama. Their perspective on the war couldn't be any more different plus Powell cites McCain's choice of Palin & her inexperience, but he was impressed with Obama's "vigor to learn"? Also, Powell's biggest motivator for deciding to support Obama was "generational change". I guess no matter how intelligient you are, the kool-aid can be a pretty powerful drug.

 

Me thinks the only difference between you and him is the flavor of Kool-aid...I am sure there was plenty of it at a Palin rally

 

Liberman put his country first by endorsing McCain. It was political suicide as a life long democrat...but somethings are more important.

Even though Liberman doesn't agree on the majority of social issues supported by McCain, Liberman recognizes that we wouldn't be able to have a free discussion on ANY issue unless we are protected from and defeat radical Islam.

Here is a man that ran as VP in 2000, but understands that the President's first and foremost responsiblity is "to protect and defend the United States"...not redistribute wealth from workers/producers to those that NEED government in their lives.

 

Yeah, some might say Liberman DID put his country first...Israel

 

Whose kool-aid do you think I'm drinking? From Day 1 I have clearly stated that my vote this year will be AGAINST Obama and the only way for that to make a difference is by voting in favor of McCain. I will admit that his choice of Palin as a VP made me look a bit more favorably upon him.
Now do everyone a favor and waddle back over to the sidelines with your dreams of a Ron Paul.

yeah, people who are unhappy about the person they are going to vote for always go to the candidates rallies...I went to a Ron Paul rally...because I was more than happy to vote for him...if he was just the best of two evils, I can surely say I wouldn't bother going to a rally...thats just me though. What flavor of Koolaid were they passing out at the McCain rally? I bet it tastes like freedom and apple pie.

You sound like McCain...I am a maverick, dont think of me as a Republican...you never know which way I will vote...Its like he wants to distance himself from the Republican party...but can you blame the guy? It cant be easy toget elected when he is on tape saying he whole heartedly supports the Bush agenda...and his Joe the Plumber ended up not being a plumber at all who doesnt pay his taxes

You know, I also took my girls to a Hillary rally a while back...open the mind a bit Drusus, there's a lot going on out there!!

 

I wouldnt go to a rally for either one...Palin isnt running for president, McCain is thus her rally is a McCain rally and I would go to a Hillary rally either...I dont need to go to a rally of someone I dont support...its not a matter of an open mind...Its a matter of there being no need...I can get all the info I need about them other ways...a rally is to show support or to protest.
