Sadly this happens, but why do the IRGC have their military assets close by school? Everyone with a brain knows why.
Reality is, the US/ Israeli forces have as their goal, to take out enemy targets with little collateral damage as humanly possible. Its not the same as Hamburg in 1943 were the RAF carpetbombed with phosphorus incendary bombs, or Tokyo 1944, even more deaths. Today, precision ordinance is used to inflict less civilian deaths.
Of course, tell that to Putin, the Kremlin bombs civilian targets like schools, hospitals, ambulances, shelters on purpose, to kill morale. Dumb Russians are only making the enemy hate them more.

Listen, I'd love to believe the U.S. cares about sparing civilians and their homes, but per the below Financial Times report:

“As the US and Israel sought to degrade regime institutions, they have hit more than 20,000 non-military buildings, according to Iran's Red Crescent, including 17,353 that were residential.”

The U.S. has a strong history of making a local populace hate us more with reckless force like this. Frankly I can't blame them

We always must be very carefull with stats from the enemy. As you know, from past 4+ years in Russian illegal invasion of Ukraine. Lavrov come out and has the nerve to tell his audiences that the Kremlin NEVER attacks civilians. After Bucha, Putin, Lavrov, Zakharova, Peskov stated, the Ukrainians murdered their own citizens, in order to blame Russia. Mauriopol, Russians covered up thousands killed in shelling.
So, I would not trust the Red Crescent report without verification. Remember the Regime covered up the mass murder 45-50K during protests. Of course, mistakes happen, but I would say, they are trying their darndest to keep civilians safe.
This is not to say, that the US is "lilywhite".

Let's assume it's exaggerated by an order of magnitude. Is 1700 civilian residential buildings indicative of a carefully planned attack?

First off, let's not buy into the sensationalist implication that "hit" means "destroyed" . . . and we have every reason to distrust the media, so well known for stretching the truth these days. If a home suffers some relatively minor damage due to shrapnel, a concussion, or flying debris, that's hardly the same as being leveled by a direct hit.

Sadly, when considering the complete destruction of military targets, yes collateral damage to one domicile per 3 military targets completely destroyed probably is an acceptable ratio.

Well, sadly in a war, innocent people sometimes die. But, compared to Curtis Lemay and Bomber Harris in WW2 when enemy cities were razed to the ground by carpet bombing, then phosphorus bomblets, its far more humane today.
One must not forget, the Iranian Regime was offered a negotiated settlement by the US. And we must add, had Jimmy Carter in 1979, gave Khomeini an ultimatum after they seized the hostages, release or else. Imagine how many lives would have been saved, both within and outside Iran. That regime has done nothing for past 47 years but arm terrorists, attack US assets, enslave their own people. The regime murdered millions in the name of Allah. And they helped Russians in their evil war.

The Iranian people asked President Trump for help and he came through for them. Of course, “help” means military involvement. I hate to break it to the bleeding heart liberals, but the U.S. military doesn’t fight to win using rainbows and lollipops.

Loss of innocent life is always sad, but the blame for this must be brought down on those responsible - the pathologically murderous Iranian Islamic regime.

President Trump is cleaning up this mess.
