Okay, I've got a beef with Trump on this.

I saw a television commercial this morning, and it was Trump himself encouraging viewers to buy his watch as a Christmas gift.

No American President should be hawking his wares while serving in the office . . . period.

Yes, it is always better for the person to do such things while serving in Public Office to openly inform the Public, unlike 9 previous POTUS that quietly and surreptitiously benefitted while in Office, inclusive of the vast majority of the 435 members of the House and the 100 members of the Senate.

I prefer a POTUS, or a Congressional Representative, or a Senator being openly forthright.

That is all I have to say about that....

I like Trump for his transparency, @charley, but my tolerance has limits . . .

I agree. I too believe the office is above that. Unlike the Dems I won’t circle the wagons around my man. He has done an incredible job righting this sinking ship. However yes, the merchandising and fund raising is beneath the office for me anyways.

I partially agree, Mr. Mopar, however in the present example, POTUS is actually rising above the office, so to speak, because he is being completely transparent I am sure you would agree that he is a business mind 1st, a bull on protecting and doing what is best for The People, and still has the Carny Barker salesperson gift of gab. It is his Soul.

BUT....he doesn't hide it, good or bad, and makes no apologies for not being a Washington/Jefferson/Adams historical public saintly presentation to The People.

The fact is, neither were the 3 named historical figures. All 3 benefitted directly from being POTUS, and made no secret or tried to cover up for the personal benefits they personally received while holding Office

    Hamilton could tell us stories....

Regardless of how anyone feels about President Trump doing this, I'd rather he be transparent about this licensing agreement than using subterfuge and deception, e.g., the Clintons and their Clinton Foundation.

The fine print on the website states, "Trump Watches are not designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals.

TheBestWatchesonEarth LLC uses the “Trump” name, image and likeness under a paid license agreement which may be terminated or revoked according to its terms. Trump Watches are intended as collectible items for individual enjoyment only, not for investment purposes.

The images shown are for illustration purposes only and may not be an exact representation of the product.
These watches are not political and have nothing to do with any political campaign."

Actually, I think the black and gold version is pretty cool... I may have to get one:

I wouldn't see a problem with Biden advertising his own brand of adult diapers or fiber laxative supplements. But, he already made enough money from his illegal Ukraine kickbacks so he may not need the extra dough. But, then again, he does have an entire crime family to support, so who can say....?

I still have an issue with it.

So Trump doesn't manufacture or sell the watches. So what? The Trump watches are manufactured under license. We can all probably guess with accuracy where the dollars from that license ultimately end up.

I defend the guy when he's attacked without justification, but I won't turn a blind eye to this . . . I say he needs to stop what he's doing instead of giving folks something real to complain about.

Do it. Report back with pictures if it's as cheaply made and scammy as other buyers are claiming

Then you, as a consumer, needs to purchase the product, and if you do not deem the product satisfactory for the intended use, then start a consumer complaint campaign.

If your only objection is that it is associated with the name Trump, that does not mean the product is not satisfactory for the intended use, well... I would wonder how you feel about Minnie Mouse and Mickey Watches manufactured by Timex? Note that the original was manufactured by the Ingersoll-Waterbury Watch in 1933, under License, and the company is now Ingersoll-Timex, and the License to manufacture under License has been granted to 27 world-wide manufacturers.

If the Watch was produced by Rolex and endorsed by and advertised by POTUS Trump, and the Trump name was prevalent on Watch and advertised, and named the Trump Watch via a License Agreement, the would you have the same objection you have expressed here? Note that every U.S. President since Eisenhower has worn Rolex Models, and GEN. Eisenhower was gifted a Rolex by Rolex, before he became POTUS. His actions tacitly granted an unpaid endorsement, as Sales increased because of his ownership. Sales for Rolex skyrocketed, when POTUS Johnson wore his Rolex every day and is considered the best sales "endorsement" for Rolex, and it was called the Time And Date Watch, and soon became known as the President Watch, which was very highly advertised as such by Rolex, which continues today, and because other POTUS continued to wear one, all the time, inclusive of Biden and Obama.

I doubt you would find favor in a legal argument. You could, in fact, find yourself the recipient of a Treble Damages Slander Action.

So..... carry on with the '...if it is cheaply made...' rant. You have not bought or tested personally.

Note: it is advertised as a Collectible item 'FOR INDIVIDUAL ENJOYMENT ONLY, NOT FOR INVESTMENT PURPOSES....'

What is your position on BEANIE BABIES? How about PET ROCK? How about MENSCH ON A BENCH DOLLS?

Note: Rolex does not manufacture a Mickey Mouse Watch.

Final: Exactly what is your personal Beef?

Truth in editing: corrected the spelling of 'soon'.

If I bought one and reported back to you that the watch was the most well-built watch I’d ever owned, the band fit like a glove and it kept perfect time what would that prove to you? You still wouldn’t believe it.

Don't buy it for me, buy it because you think it looks cool.

Oh, no please don't misinterpret what I'm saying. I certainly wouldn't buy it for you. What I'm saying is that I might buy one because it think it looks cool.

Should it happen to become one of the best watches I've ever owned and I report those findings back to you, I doubt you would accept those findings because of the fact that President Trump's name is on it.

I would imagine that someone could gift you a bar of solid gold, but with Trump's name emblazoned on it, you would refuse it.

P.S. I'm not buying a solid gold bar for you either.
