They only exist today because of the US. Not the European nations that have more to lose. His eye rolling and shoulder shrugging is disrespectful. How long will they last when we cut off funding?
I find it fascinating how in the absence of strong and effective leadership for so long that now that we do have strong and effective leadership it is lambasted by those that do not understand what they are witnessing.
What you saw was nothing of the sort. It is the kind of effective negotiation that has been going on behind closed doors for years. Whether yesterday’s exchange should have taken place in front of the cameras is a debate for another time…… The American position is one that benefits both nations. We get rare earth metals. He gets an income stream and American presence in his nation. Win-win…. Zelenskyy seems to be holding out for NATO membership and that isn’t in the cards as it would truly back Putin in a corner….. What you saw was a step in the negotiation process. Nothing more. No allies were abandoned yesterday regardless what the liberal talking heads may want you to believe.
I just wonder what exactly will be a bridge too far for you with regards to Ukraine. If Trump just said outright "Putin can have Ukraine" I'd half expect to come here and see you all going "ah, what a masterful gambit"
Trump has long shed the idea that the US should shoulder the weight of protecting liberty and democracy internationally. Why is that a good thing, you might ask? Because, leaving responsibilities to others breeds complacency and ill-preparedness. The sooner other allies accept their responsibility to really be prepared, the less emboldened our collective adversaries will be. With the international community leaving it to the US to lead, and with challenges being mounted all over the globe, the ability of the US to respond is intentionally being spread thin by China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and others. It's human nature to take the path of least resistance, which Trump understands far better than I think you ever will . . . you are too bent on emotional response to ever see the biggest of pictures. You and so many others need to drop the myopic perspective and get a larger view of what's really going on here. Open your eyes . . . This is not about abandoning Ukraine . . . it's about committing our allies.
Sending billions of unaccounted for dollars was a bridge too far in my view. We are a nation on the precipice of bankruptcy and we sent all those dollars not to help Ukraine, rather as a smokescreen to cover Biden’s corrupt tracks in Ukraine. But that was alright I’m sure.
It is accounted for! Do you hear how insane the latter part sounds too? Why on Earth would we spend billions to "cover corrupt tracks" If there were corruption to cover up, wouldn't it be way cheaper, easier, and definitive to just assassinate Zelensky or destroy the evidence in the chaos of war? Your theory doesn't pass the smell test.
Why on Earth would we spend billions to "cover corrupt tracks"? Do you hear how "insane" what you are asking sounds? Biden would do anything . . . anything to protect himself. Just look at who he pardoned to insulate himself from future prosecution. He wanted no links back to his past dealing, and he had no compunction whatsoever about spending The People's money. Your perspective holds absolutely no water at all.
I’ll paint a clear picture. Why would Biden go “all in” for Ukraine, a nation his family had questionable financial ties with yet fail to go “all in” for Israel, a genuine ally of our nation? Seriously???
Because we committed to going all in for them when we made them give up their nukes! We also have more than went all in for Israel. Biden infamously bypassed congress several times to supply weapons to Israel. Gaza is leveled, women and children too for good measure. Happy yet?
Zelenskyy backed out of the rare earth deal. Twice. He simply refused to deal. As we all know, President Trump is a deal maker, so if the other party is unwilling to deal, Trump walks away. Zelenskyy SHOULD have made the deal. It would have been much, much better for his country if he had. But now, he may have to fight a war without U.S. money and possibly without U.S. weapons. Good luck to him; he's going to need it.
Times change. And so did Zelenskyy's attitude. President Trump was willing to give him what he needs, but the man simply refuses to negotiate. That's not how wars are won. Zelenskyy needs to put the needs of his country before his own ego (or whatever is keeping him from making the deal). Why he won't do what's best for his country is anyone's guess. But, he'd better do it quickly because his countrymen are dying.
Yes, I am very happy. The inhabitants of Gaza WANTED Terrorist Rule and fanatic anti-Israel rhetoric and defiance and violence against Israel. All in the name of some confusing interpretation of some supposed religious text(s). Now they know...not a good "want" on their part. You would think they know SOMETHING about the resolve of Israel by now, to defy any country attacking Israel. At least try to remember the 6 Day War, and the azz-kicking Israel disbursed. Paybacks...live with it, or without it. That is the choice Gaza faced. They made the stupid choice.
I think yesterday’s events made this much clearer to me. Yesterday Zelenskyy secured several billion in loans from the UK and nobody made a peep. So it occurred to me….. The liberal mindset is entitlement. I don’t have a job so give me money. Conversely the conservative mindset is that I am happy to help but this is a ladder, not an unending gift….. Sending Zelenskyy out empty handed is unthinkable to a liberal while a conservative sees him turning his back on a win-win deal.
It's not just sending him out empty handed, it's the reason for it. It had nothing to do with American interests and everything to do with refusal to kiss the ring.
Kissing the ring, MY ARSE!!! If Trump is so Hell-bent on having his ring kissed, why is he so busy making so many uncomfortable for the benefit of the nation? It would be far easier and much more self-gratifying to just print more dollars and put smiles on everyone’s faces . . . A la Jobie and Chuckie Schumer. You are witnessing a true leader escorting this nation through short-term pain for long term gain . . . A concept liberals know too little of.
