say if I were to believe in the christain god. I would obviosly accept him as my savior, obey his commands, Love him, ET.

However, would I also be able to dislike some of the things he does?

For example: If I were to believe, I would also believe in hell, but I don't agree that it should be there to torture all the nonbelievers...

    or

I dislike the fact that in the Leviticus, he tells people to kill homosexuals, kill disobedient children, ET. But he is god so I would have to accept it.

    Is that okay or no?

Sorry if this is hard to understand, but if you don't lmk and i will try to explain it better

That's the great thing about religion, you can make it however you want it to be. Pick and choose...most people do that. You will notice that many Christians will discount much of the old testament when you quote all the awful things that are written in it. But when they need to use it to make a point, they will not hesitate to quote from the old testament. They are picking and choosing.

My wife seems to think god is just like her...she ascribes characteristic to her god and its no shock that her god doesn't have a problem with anything she does. :) Thus she can do no wrong in the eyes of her god...I know a few people who, in the end, are pretty much their own god.

When the Lutherans broke from the catholic church...they did so because they believed god did not want from us what the Catholics said god wanted...so they made their own version of Christianity. This goes the same for every Christian sect (and Muslim sect). People regularly attribute different characteristics to god and decide to make their own sect with a group of people who agree...there is nothing stopping YOU from making your own sect and ascribing to god whatever characteristic YOU think god should have. If you read about the beginning of organized Christianity, when Christians no longer had to worship underground and organized churches were established with bishops and what not...there were already several different major Christian sects and many smaller ones...most were divided by things like the nature of the trinity and how one is to worship. These sects were so antagonistic towards each other that violence was very common, there is a description in one text I was reading regarding early Christianity where the writer witnessed two men of different sects fighting with each other on the street stabbing each other...this became rather common place.

I have always though that if there is a god, then that god is what it is and wants what it wants and we could never ascribe characteristics to it. If something is real, it is not how we think it should be...it is how it is regardless. Now all I have seen regarding god is what others through history have said it is...and I am not one to take someone's word for it. People did not just take people word for it when someone said all things are made up of atoms....they waited until proof was given and properties were solidified...then we know it exists and we know what it is, its properties, how they react in different situations...etc...

I am sure if God exists, then it is how it is and to ascribe our own wishes to this being would be making ones own god.

You don't have to agree with it IMHO. We might not be able to understand WHY God does the thigns He does, but we need to accept it. Can you says you agree with everything your parents do, or have done? Most of the time prpobably they had a good reason, but you failed to see it at that time. But with time, you might be able to understand it. JMO

problem is, I know my parent exist...I have no real idea what god wants as he has never told me...he told a bunch of other folks who in turn tell me to take their word for it.

so god had a good reason for letting hitler kill millions of jewish people, gypsies (sp), and disabled people?

he also has a good reason for letting hundreds of people kill each other in his name instead of appearing or making a massive sign in the sky for peace?

and if he is ok with letting hundreds kill in his name is that really a being you'd want to worship?

Apparently god holds life cheap. And why not- as the old doritos commercial said: "Crunch all you want, we'll make more."
