I have no regard for any judge who goes light on sentencing child predators, molesters, pornographers, etc.
Pedophilia aside...I don't have a problem with a lower-court Judge expressing their sentencing philosophy as long as it's within legal sentencing guidelines. Most judges considered for the SCOTUS get to that level because of their judicial philosophy, not in spite of it. The job of a Supreme Court Justice is quite different. A strict adherence to the Constitution (as written and amended) is an absolute requirement. There's a Democratic process for amending the Constitution and that process must never be abridged. With regards to Ms. Brown-Jackson, I only care to know if she meet that high standard of a Supreme Court Justice. I need to learn more about her. So far, I worry.
I just tried to watch some more of the hearings. I saw Josh Hawley asking about her sentencing records, but I just caught the tail end of that. Then Sen. Cruz requested a letter addressed to the chairman (signed by 10 Senators) which was ignored by Durban and Leahy. So we didn't get to hear the letter read as they went to the next Democrat ("Amazing" Hirono). I tried to get through a Richard Blumenthal questioning period yesterday, but failed. All the Democrats want to talk about is what an "Historical Day" it is. No Democrat has yet asked a substantive question. This is no way to run a railroad!
I just heard that Judge Jackson was violating guidelines when sentencing Pedophiles. This is the issue...Judicial Activism. She's for it and I'm against it.
I've listened to Judge Jackson for a while and I'm not hearing what I need to hear. In fact, I hear the exact opposite. I need to hear her say, "The U.S. Constitution is the immutable legal standard against which all U.S. Law is measured". What I hear is, "It's the Supreme Court's responsibility to understand the Times in which the the Constitution was written...and analogize to present day". That decouples Law from the Constitution...(not good). This dialog between the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Judge Jackson demonstrates why I feel Judge Jackson is wholly unqualified to sit on the SCOTUS. I don't see the depth of judicial thought I expect from a Supreme Court Nominee. She sounds like the "Kamala Harris" of Supreme Court nominees...superficial.
Ketanji Brown Jackson is the most popular Supreme Court nominee in years. Two news stories dominated the headlines this week. The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine reached its one month mark. And the Senate hosted confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to join the Supreme Court. It's with the Jackson confirmation hearings that we begin our statistical journey into the news of the week. Jackson in the court of popular opinion Five recent surveys have indicated strong support for President Joe Biden's decision to nominate Jackson for the Supreme Court seat retiring Justice Stephen Breyer is vacating. According to an average of polls by Gallup, Fox, Monmouth University, Quinnipiac University and the Pew Research Center, about 53% of Americans supported her confirmation, with about 26% of Americans opposed. This is good for a +27-point net popularity rating. Oops! Apparently y'all are outliers. Or just plain liars.
The majority of polls you listed were pre hearings. This appointment really doesn’t matter much because one leftist is going to be replaced by another but of course historically she will be the first affirmative action nomination. Some of her biggest positions that gives many pause is that she has been so light on pedophiles and she can’t/ won’t define what a woman is. I’m not a biologist but I do know the science and the definition of sex and it’s based on the X or Y chromosome. The left has successfully beat down anyone that opposes a minority based on merits by labeling them as racists, and this is likely expressed in the polling numbers. We got a historic VP, now how’s that working out?
As an afterthought, KJB can’t define a woman. So is Joey keeping his promise or not that he’s going to appoint a Black “Woman” to the Supreme Court? Does she identify as a woman? If she does, why in the heck can’t she at least give a definition that applies to herself ? You already know I suspect…..
When I see Judge Jackson's name, I can't help but think of Nicole Brown Simpson. Btw, the other day I was commenting to a "Seeking Alpha" article. I was typing fast and used the wrong index finger (honest mistake) and referred to Judge Jackson as "Fudge Jackson". O-M-G!!! You can't imagine the backlash!
I hope our newest Justice doesn't confuse her opinion with the actual Constitution (as ratified). If she can make that leap, she'll have no greater supporter than me...but her testimony gives me pause. We shall see.
