It answers the question perfectly . . . eliminate all deductibles and apply a flat tax across the board. There . . . no perceived disincentive to risking everything and striking out on one's own, or to sitting back, risk-free, and working for someone else instead. Everyone can choose their path and quit complaining about how different things are for someone else. There are no more tax loopholes for you to complain about than there are government benefit loopholes for me to gripe about, so get off your high horse. I say get rid of all of the complexities, both for taxation and social benefits programs.
This is an unfair statement and does not paint an accurate picture, but it is exactly the sort of statement that makes low information libs froth at the mouth. My business does not pay a nickel to the fed. Neither does it ever receive a requirement to do so..... All those taxes are paid by me religiously each quarter because we are structured as a flow through company.... It is far too easy to say look at that greedy businessman. His company pays nothing in taxes..... Oh yes we do. Via my personal checking account. Stop spreading this misinformation.
Ditto . . . a few years back my wife was incensed that "the family" was served up an enormous tax bill for profits made by the company. I happily made the check out to Uncle Sam, and marched on, but she continues to feel victimized by that tax bill, and those smaller ones we continue to pay every year since.
"Suffer" is a relative term. It certainly means we ALL pay the tax in some combination of... 1. Higher prices 2. Lower income 3. Stagnant investments 4. Lost opportunity For the sake of argument...How much tax might we collect if we tax at a rate of 100%? Not much I suspect. So...what's the "optimum" tax rate? "In calculus, Rolle's theorem says that if a real-valued function f is continuous on a closed interval[a, b],differentiable on the open interval(a, b), and f(a) = f(b), then there exists a c in the open interval (a, b) such that f(c) is a maximum or a minimum and the gradient at x = c is zero, meaning f′(c) = 0." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laffer_curve Aren't we talking about "revenue collection"? ...or are we using our tax system as a cudgel to promote ESG? In AOC terms..."The Laffer Curve shows the point at which the Golden Goose dies".
For a moment I thought that the only way one might suitably express "C" to a Democrat is as being the "Optimal" tax rate. The only problem with that is that the optimal rate in their minds needs no calculus to be arrived at . . . it can be only one value . . . 100%.
If we can never raise taxes on the wealthiest among us because it will cause them to charge more for the things that the poor need to survive like food, medicine, and shelter, then our system is irrevocably broken and needs to be scrapped for a more equitable form of economics. That is the system you are advocating for. Your only hope is that you get to be one of the people that gets to decide who gets access to what kind of necessities. I'm sure we'd find out just how much you actually care about those people at that point.
If I didn't care about the people around me, I would have sold this place the multiple times I had been offered and abscond to Bimini.... Yes, I do care. I have spent a lifetime of putting my money where my mouth is on behalf of those that haven't been as fortunate as I have been. I do not by any measure meet your definition of a greedy conservative.... But that ain't the point..... The point here is America is in the throws of economic disaster of epic proportions. On the face of this, you and every other lib want to paint this as taking from the wealthy. Well, that is misdirection at its highest level. I have demonstrated why these proposals will affect all. I am in the midst of it. Not in an ivory tower looking at pie charts and reading about it and I know and demonstrate what I am saying every day of my professional life. This is robbing from the poor to pay for the mismanagement at the top, Joe. This is not taxing the wealthy. This is kicking everybody while they are down.
Come on now, Mopar! This is how JoeNation sees you. Aren't you some greedy, slave-driving fat-cat sucking the life out of your employees so you can buy a new yacht?
I think that is the way the left has been programmed to think about anybody that doesn't live off the government teet.
