But the Times and Post investigations were unable to find evidence of any explosives in the car, which they say was driven by 43-year-old Zemari Ahmadi, an engineer working for the U.S. aid group Nutrition and Education International, which aims to eliminate malnutrition in Afghanistan. Family members told the Times that Ahmadi had applied for refugee resettlement in the United States.

Ahmadi was not the only person killed by the drone strike. Ahmadi's relatives told the Times that 10 members of their family were killed, including seven children.

When I served in the Air Force, we would never engage in such a haphazard way in such a densely populated area as Kabul. This is like a cop initiating a gun battle in a crowded Costco. Especially when there was just a "possibility" it "might" be a valid target. That's not how operations are conducted.

I'll admit, it likely put the various terrorists groups on their heals for a few days...which is a good thing...to help protect the last departing troops. Still, blowing away an innocent family is hardly the way to go about it.

 

China is moving up their schedule for a Taiwan invasion. They probably will move before the mid-terms...or shortly thereafter. Does anyone think the Biden Administration will come to the aide of Taiwan if attacked?

I think I just heard my new favorite line..... "If grandmothers can stand up to Russian tanks in Ukraine then our President can stand up to the Squad".

 

I guess (in fairness) I should mention that she was asked to describe the conflict in "layman's" terms. Apparently, she thinks "laymen" are 3rd graders...like "freshmen" are 9th graders.

 

Maybe most of the men she laid down with weren't all that smart either . . .

 

China announces South China Sea drills close to Vietnam coast



BEIJING, March 5 (Reuters) - China is carrying out more than a week of military drills in the South China Sea in an area between its southern province of Hainan and Vietnam, the government announced, warning shipping to stay away.

China claims a large part of the disputed waterway, on which major shipping lanes lie, and has built artificial islands and airfields on some of its reefs and islets, to widespread concern in the region and in the United States.

In a statement late on Friday, the Hainan Maritime Safety Administration said the drills would start from the same day and last until March 15.

It provided coordinates for an area roughly halfway between Hainan's Sanya and the Vietnamese city of Hue. Sanya is home to a major Chinese naval base.

"Entering prohibited," it said in a Chinese and English language statement on its website.

Part of the area is well within Vietnam's 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone and Vietnam has previously criticised China for what it calls infringements on its sovereignty.

China's Defence Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and neither did Vietnam's Foreign Ministry.

In 2014, tension between Vietnam and China rose to its highest levels in decades when a Chinese oil rig started drilling in Vietnamese waters. The incident triggered boat rammings by both sides and anti-China riots in Vietnam.
